You make your own luck but a lucky manager is better than a good one.

That game would've probably ended in a 0-0 draw under Bowyer.

That's what a winning mentality and actually setting out to win does for you.

Couldn't go as working but had a positive vibe and really cared about the result for the first time in ages.

Long may it continue.

I don't think it's a coincidence that we've played not so well and won today. We've gone from having a manager who's happy with a draw to one who expects to win. Big difference.

As others have correctly pointed out, backing this up with a win against Wednesday is absolutely crucial. We could never put a string of wins together under GB or even back to back ones, the manager and players appeared to think their work was done for the next month or so.

Good win today

Had to tough it out today at times. Duffy and Hanley were very good today. Thought Henley was poor 1st half but much better second half.

Impress with Lambert always talking to the players and passing instructions on to the players during the game.

But a throughly deserving win today

Very pleased that the players and Manager came over to the fans after the win today

Paul Lambert's Blue and White Army!!!

Well, it wasn't pretty but at the end of the day a win is a in. Joe Garner: what a soft dick. Showed them nobbers how it's done! Onwards and upwards COYB

Garner is a prick. Hows that guy didnt sent off today I dont know.

Great win. We looked well organised and fought hard throughout and were unlucky not to keep a clean sheet. I thought Duffy and Hanley were immense.

Seeing the players at the end celebrating with the fans was awesome. I felt it showed a renewed sense of togetherness, optimism and fight which is just what we need. RTID.

Still waiting to hear from somebody who was at the game. I'm convinced Henley is a weak link for us and needs replacing as soon as possible.

He is a weak link - literally he doesn't have the strength.

Good win, you could see the manager had the team up for it. The change of manager had the fans up for it. Rovers worked ever so hard for the win (sorry! but they did.) rovers worked really hard. The overall performance technically wasn't a great deal different from what we saw under Bowyer, there are still deficiencies, quite a lot of deficiencies in this squad that good sides can expose. It's too early to say too much more about the Lambert factor, but the tempo was better and the desire to win was greater. What we need is to build on today, every day.

Good result, PNE fans remind me of City fans (rags) with all that plastic fans nonsense.

Real test will come against a better team.[/quote

Spot on. They'd be massive if they ever had any success nonsense. They're just a bunch of 2 club bitter plastics. They can go back to being Liverpool Man United Chelsea fans now they've lost their cup final to little town Rovers.

I thought Henley was better today, his confidence seems to have improved (which I believe was his biggest issue), his sliding tackle on their left winger in the second half was brilliant!

Yeah he has an excellent two minutes which ended with that tackle. Sadly he gives the ball away too much for me, not comfortable on the ball. Does punt a lot aimlessly forward.

But sure Lambert will either improve that or replace him.

Saw one of the strangest things I had seen at a game today, the Preston medical team practicing carrying someone off on the stretcher with a fellow medic strapped in. Everyone started clapping near me thought he was hurt and they were walking him around the corner flag and back. Bizarre.

That banner "Preston North End - Pride of Lancashire" - you've got to laugh!

Some thoughts...

Kevin Davi.... sorry, Joe Garner, took a dive trying to win the pen. He should have been booked.

I don't think Rhodes was injured, I think he took a blow to the face. He'd certainly run out of steam though which I presumed was why he was subbed.

I thought the ref was awful. Had a terrible game.

We worked hard, grafted. It was a higher tempo to what we're used to. I'll repeat what I said (and others) earlier in the week. This'll take time. They clearly aren't fit enough. I'll let Koita off after the week he's just had but he looked like he'd played ninety after 5 mins of coming on!

Luck? As King Kenny once said - you make your own luck in this game. Funnily enough the harder you work the luckier you get.

Great day out, atmosphere was excellent. Bring on the Wednesday. Another week working with the players and more hard graft to come no doubt. PL's B&WA!!

Interesting. I'd rather he cut it than not, but he just always seems to be involved when it goes wrong for us at the back.

I was at the game.

I have to agree that sometimes, possibly often, a successful team has to be able win ugly, or win despite playing badly.

I take no pleasure in saying that our overall passing game and ball retention was possibly worse than under GB. After a nondescript first half in which we scored a scrappy goal set up by a nice piece of skill and accurate, powerful shot from Evans, I thought Lambert would send them out with stinging ears and renewed determination to retain and pass the ball better.

From the 1st 30 seconds of the second half however, our passing and ball retention was even worse. This was really frustrating although we were still enjoying the atmosphere which became even more vibrant when Taylor's brilliant close control and intelligence resulted in the penalty which was clinically converted by Jordan. We celebrated as if we were at t'Turf, and were then even giving it the Ole's as we presumed we were home and dry.

Our nervousness on the ball and continued poor short (and long) passing ensured that we had to endure a nail-biting last 20. Preston controlled the game, although we had a number of swift breakaways (more when Koita replaced Rhodes) which should have put the game to bed.

Lambert will have hopefully seen what needs to be worked on and where we need to improve. We will have to keep the ball better against an efficient Wednesday side but I would have thought our management duo would have been able to make tactical or personnel changes today to regain control of a game that nearly slipped away in a backs to the wall last half hour (I know, early days....).

We kept North End to half chances and were relatively commanding in the air. Conway looked lively (although Marshall was quiet). There was little or no full back overlapping, possibly understandable in a managers 1st game.

Akpan showed some nice touches and was strong at times but the game often passed him, Evans, and Guthrie by.

Support was good and there seemed to be a marked desire of the lads to celebrate right in front of us for the second goal and at the end.

Great to get 3 points with a below-par performance and look forward to kicking on next Saturday. A win will take us within 4 points of Wednesday.

COYB.
