This is my hope too. If Lambert decides to go down the 'gegenpressing' route then you can implement that relatively quickly, as long as you have the legs.

It would massively help with the attacking play to as you win the ball back higher up the park more often.

I think PL definitely sees Marshall as the type of player thst can implement this. To be fair Lawrence also showed he can do it against Ipswich. Both can also run at defenders.

Parked in a school car park, £3 not bad, but the lady told us the St Gregory's Social Club generally didn't have any problem with away fans. We walked in and it was full of their lot, so safe to say I kept my jacket zipped up

For those having a pop at Henley, well we need a fall guy during Lowe's long absence, here's what our Manager says post match:

“I just told the defence in there – defending is your job,” said Lambert “And along with young Adam Henley and Markus Olsson, I thought the back four were colossal for us, along with Jason Steele, the goalkeeper.'' “They were proper, proper men; proper defenders.”

Having a pop ARA? Fall guy?

Hope there wasn't any bother.

We arrived at the ground just as the Rovers escort passed the home end, lots of aggression, posturing and worried looking police but no trouble. I was surprised to see non of the usual suspects in the escort, all young lads this lot and plenty of them.

One noticeable difference yesterday was the full backs not getting as forward that often, if at all. Don't think they overlapped once.

Dunno about that, second half Olsson got beyond Marsh on at least 5 occasions.

I accept I'm massively in the minority here, but I think his main problem is confidence, if he bulks up I think he could be a better player for us than he's currently showing tbh.

I'd totally agree with that, has a big confidence issue but I think that's down to him knowing that he's playing alongside 2 blood and thunder centre halves whilst always being aware that he's not that type... It just doesn't seem to fit. He desperately needs to put some size on but unfortunately changing someones mentality and physique drastically isn't an easy job... It takes time and like I've said in my previous post, he needs to do it on someone else's time.

Struggling to remember that. Don't recall him getting one ball in. Marshall only went to the left in the last half an hour.

Yeah it seemed to be late in the game that he got forward on the counter a few times. I was sat right out on that side which is probably why I noticed it so much.

Oh well my memory must be going. We did win didn't we? I am sure I remember that :-)

Yesterday was all about getting a win, cheering in the new era under Lambert and the fans didn't disappoint, neither did the players.

Yes we make football look hard work at times, yes we lack quality and yes we rode our luck, but we got the win and that's what yesterday was all about for me.

I want to single out Duffy and Hanley, absolutely colossal in the centre of defence, hardly put a foot wrong all afternoon, I just wish one of them had stuck one on that little **** Garner. Good to see the two of them in a big 'man hug' at the final whistle also.

Chris Taylor, absolute gem that lad, 110% every time I se him play, brave, runs at that opposition and a credit to the shirt. I hope he gets more game time under Lambert.

Great day out.

See my previous post regarding Hanley giving Garner a ittle school yard bullying... Thoroughly enjoyable.

Time did you start on the ale?

Henley got better as the game went on.

For me, in the first 30 mins he was nervous and lacking confidence but improve alot after that time. Made a couple of good forwards runs and made one excellent tackle.

I hope Lambert/Irvine work with him to improve his confidence and self belief

He did improve, he had to. He had a torrid first 30 minutes. His judgement was shocking and I think Grayson had targeted him as the weak link in the back four. Unfortunately, he didn't get too much help from Marshall either.

I'm probably biased but thought deserved to be 2-0 up then defended so deep just like under bowyer and to be fair lucky to hold on. However, I'm taking comfort from the fact 1 held on and 2 lambert seemed to be going mental at the "negative" defending on the side line. So I assume it'll take a bit to get Bowyers mentality out of the players.

As I said yesterday (just before we scored ironically) in the short term lambert may not be able to polish a turd but I'm convinced he's the right man to at least roll it in glitter. All in all very positive feeling about the future.

And I believe that is what a significant number of posters were saying. Undoubtedly the squad were underperforming under Bowyers regime and there are probably several underlying reasons for this. Personally I think we can improve by another 20% simply by doing pretty basic stuff which seemed to pass Bowyer and his staff by.

Spot on.

Think you got a hint at the extra professionalism and know how that Lambert and co will bring as evidenced in the pre match drills.

Christ, every time someone's performances are discussed it doesn't mean they're a "fall guy"... If there are numerous people seeing the same thing then it's hardly coincidence. The lad struggled and he needs to work on some aspects of his game and man up, that's all that's been said really... Pretty fair stuff.

Worryingly I didn't touch a drop ha ha

To be fair, Olsson I can only remember putting in 1 cross but did get up to support Marsh.

Thanks god for that. Was just ringing the doctors, ha ha.

Heard off someone linked to someone in the game (possibly the vaguest sounding link ever) that Lambert has been told he has cash to spend.

Would have thought he would have been reassured of that before taking the job. Be interesting to see where he plans on strengthening, Lawrence should be priority.

Had a great day yesterday. A few pubs before the match, an away win, and plenty of drinking after the match. What a day to be a Rover after all we've been through.

The football wasn't great, and Preston are a good passing side, but we ground out that result by being smart. Preston were unlucky, but we had the same against Burnley. Unlucky is a word for losers, as we well know, and yesterday, we were far from losers. Delighted with how it went and can't wait for Wednesday on Saturday (teehee!). Just gutted that I can't go to any games next month!

Yeah I really like Lawrence, think others will too though.

Right back, creative midfielder and a centre forward for me. Basically just more quality in more positions.

Bradshaw at Wasall is a shout. Creative centre mid I'm not so sure of, no one seems to stand out. Could do with an experienced right back, need a bit more experience back there I feel.

Great day had. We went the pubs down Friargate before and after the game. The only abuse we got was from Rovers fans who we passed in the escort !

The atmosphere was good but singing was a bit disjointed as you get in larger followings. There were multiple different songs going on at once several times.

The game was poor but, as ever, it was always about the result. Henley and the performances of Hanley/Duffy has been covered already on here. Koita's passing was poor but I thought he nicked the ball back well a few times later on when we were under pressure.

Not sure why we dropped so deep. At one stage near the end, their centre half piked the ball up on the edge of his own area. Every Rovers player just retreated back in their own half and allowed him to advance to the half way line to launch it. It was key to hang on because I think most fans had started to think "here we go again" in the last 10 minutes.

Oh, and to the Preston fans I know will be reading this thread but no longer posting - UNLUCKY NOBBERS ! :tu:

I think Nixon pretty much same that Lambert would get those reassures first.

I agree Lawrence should be priority

For me, Bradshaw is similar to Rhodes for me. I would prefer either a striker with pace or target man

I would look to bring in a goalscorer centre midfield

Don't know anything about Bradshaw but if we do sign a new striker we MUST sign someone with pace. One of the reasons teams can push us back towards our own goal like yesterday in the last 15 mins is our relative lack of pace up front. If you've got a pacey guy up front who can turn a poor clearance up the channels into a good pass opponents tend not to push up out wide. Bellamy was a classic example, there weren't many balls that were lost causes when he was playing.

Been lacking in pace for a long long time up front, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be that many players knocking about who have the pace AND quality we need. My best shout that I could think of and i have been saying his name for some time now... Lewis Grabban. Not really getting a chance at Norwich, quick and physical and can finish at this level... Could we afford him? That's another question.

Grabban and Rhodes for me could easily be best partnership in this league.
