Not worried so much about pre season friendlies, nice to win sometimes but rarely a barometer of the season to come.

The signings we've made are good but nowhere near enough. No marney or Barnes for pretty much the season. Still desperately need decent central midfield cover, Shackell looking to be heading to Derby which blows a hole in our defence.

For once I'm not expecting a relegation battle but as we stand at this moment I'm not sure we can trouble the top 6.

Well Derby have made a few bids - last one at 3 million by all accounts. Noises suggest he's keen on the move.

Myself I'd have snapped their hand off if they really did offer 3 million. Worry as ever is the deal gets done at the 11th hour so we conveniently don't have time to replace him!

Surely things are differnt down t'turf these days Longers?

Far be it from me to take an interest in the inner workings of Dingles, but as a cash rich club, that if it plays its cards right can become a regular yo-yo club, if your board do sell off your best players, eventually replace Dyche with nomarks and downsize like they did last time, wouldn't they be giving up a once in a lifetime opportunity?

To be fair I think they are taking a reasonable approach. A lot is going into the infrastructure. The older Rovers fans will remember the investment in the hidden stuff over the years that we simply haven't been able to do. Lots being spent on the training facilities etc.

On this they have turned down the bids so far but he's a (nearly) 32 year old championship centre halve. He's good but at 3 million it would represent excellent value I think. At this point Dyche seems to be getting the backing he wants, definitely has money but is keen to bring a small number of the right type/level. Done well to replace Ings and Trippier. Vossen and Lowton not going to be quite the same level but we've done well. But in essence we go into this season with a first 11 slightly weaker than we had last time and also not having Marney or Barnes available. In the same period other clubs have added and strengthened their teams. So we've some work to do still. Mind you if we can find that central midfielder and either keep shackell or replace him (the rumour was we were after Hanley, no idea if that's true or not) we might be OK, make the play offs with a bit of luck - a little more luck and who knows. Fail to add and I think we will find too many strong teams.

Assuming he stays, this season will show if Dyche is the real deal or not though - I feel certain he is but I've been fooled many times before.

God I hope you lot sign Hanley. That'll be any chance of going straight back up cruelly taken away from you by that useless oaf in one foul swoop.

Hanley under Dyche may bucks his ideas up tbf.

Not seen anything to suggest we are trying to sign Hanley other than the initial rumour reported on here - though you'd imagine Dyche is aware that he's more than likely losing Shackell so will have scouted alternatives.

I think the manager has earned the right to back his judgement but there are quite a few who would not welcome this signing - I've not seen enough of him to judge fairly but what I take from views on here seems to be bags of talent, ability and potential but little of this is seen week to week on the pitch. If that is a fair assessment AND we are looking at him one can only assume the manager believes he can get the best out of the player!

It's his decision-making that lets him down. He often tries to run forward and make things happen in midfield, usually ending in a wayward pass. He often makes short passes at the back that puts our defence in trouble. He often loses his cool and costs the team by getting sent off. If that was sorted out, he'd be some player, but the same applies to the thousands of other players who didn't quite fulfil expectations.

Potential was what he had when he broke in to the first team several years ago. He's just never fulfilled it.

Hes only 23, still young for a centre half.

Hanley is quite good Longers, solid at the back too. Has an eye for goal as well, so we would be gutted to lose him to you guys ;)

Is that most of eddies decent players gone and that big ginger no mark harping on about effort like some rugby league goon ? Considering the money you will have you ought to be top six but it's far from a walk some expect

Guess we'll see but to be fair he took a poor squad into the PL, so he's light years ahead of anything we have.

A centre-half completely written off at 23, blimey.

He's got a lot to learn don't get me wrong, but in patches I've seen enough to believe he can play at LEAST Championship comfortably in the long run. Some games he can be an absolute colossus at the back, others he can make a mistake and be chastised for it.

Sometimes these young defenders benefit greatly from an experienced head playing next to them - most recent example for us was how great Nelsen was for Samba when he was here. Samba had great powerful attributes but could be somewhat of a loose cannon without Nelsen next to him.

Who's Hanley got? Duffy, who's equally as raw and could benefit from the same old-head next to him, or Kilgallon, who whilst being a decent centre-half doesn't strike me as a leader or organiser of others.

He took Eddies defence from conceding 3 and 4 every game and within 2 weeks they were solid. I agree though he can now also be judged on what he's brought in. Big ginger no mark - only when viewed through eyes green with envy :-)
