mattjansen Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 According to this we are the 17th biggest club in English football, shame it doesn't reflect on the pitch. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3011776/Are-Manchester-United-Liverpool-Arsenal-Chelsea-biggest-club-Sportsmail-s-study-finally-settles-football-s-great-debate.html

Rover_Shaun Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 As soon as I saw West Brom and Stoke above us I stopped reading as it's obviously a waste of bandwidth
AggyBlue Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 All depends on the criteria used to work it out. My way, the club I've watched the most games of, we are the biggest
Andyblue2 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 11th in the country for trophies suits me just fine.
Salgado Is Still A Hero Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 In the history books, it will forever include the trophies we've won. Not how "big" we were in 2015. Big clubs are teams like Man United and Liverpool. For everyone else, trophies and league positions are the only things that should matter.
thenodrog Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Unfortunately the curve is downward and steeply so. Whats gone is gone, it's what is to come that is much more important. A team is as good as it's last game or in our case 'season'.
Backroom DE. Posted March 27, 2015 Backroom Posted March 27, 2015 Thought this was going to be a thread about Birmingham.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 We should be proud of our history,we have achieved far more than any other club of similar size.
McClarky Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 We stasnd out as a small town club in that list which we should be proud of and 4 ywars ago we would probably be 3 or 4 places higher in this poll. Thanks again Venkys.

tomphil Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 The biggest small town club in England hands down I would think.
Jimmy612 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 The biggest small town club in England hands down I would think. At the moment or throughout history? Burnley are bigger than us at the moment, sadly. It can only get better then Haha.... you're in for a shock
yoda Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 At the moment or throughout history? Burnley are bigger than us at the moment, sadly. you mean the extra digits Haha.... you're in for a shock maybe you are !

However, I'm more than wary that there is a bloody long way to go backwards too.
Davenport Nice Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 There have been various league tables published over the years and we do well in them all. Not sure what criteria was to put Burnley 4 places above us on crowds. There's probably not much in it but thought we would have shaded it overall. It's all a bit corny really but when we're generally looked at as tinpot it's worth putting under other fans' noses. http://talksport.com/football/top-10-most-successful-english-football-clubs-revealed-liverpool-man-united-and-more?p=2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_football_clubs_in_England_by_competitive_honours_won https://thechriswhitingshow.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/english-footballs-biggest-clubs-revealed/
Rover_Shaun Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 we have to get above that shower of sh*t loitering in the Premier League, and I'm confident we soon will. Do you think they will fall that far, that fast?
Riverside67 Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I think we are kidding ourselves to think of ourselves as a big club. We do not have the catchment area and we have too much local competition for support.
tomphil Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I think we are kidding ourselves to think of ourselves as a big club. We do not have the catchment area and we have too much local competition for support. Which takes us back to the old argument of how do you define a big club.
Salgado Is Still A Hero Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 I think we are kidding ourselves to think of ourselves as a big club. We do not have the catchment area and we have too much local competition for support. I'm not sure anyone does consider us a big club. But I could reel off a dozen clubs from the Premier League and Championship who would argue that they were bigger than us, but the fact is we would have won more trophies than the lot of them put together. United, Liverpool and Arsenal are big clubs, recognised in England but across Europe and worldwide as well. The rest aren't. So it's all about winning trophies. That and league positions are the only things that truly matter. Despite what the likes of Newcastle and Brighton fans think, attendances don't count for much. Bayern Munich and Barcelona fans don't go on about their massive attendances, because they don't have to. For the size of our town, we've done incredibly well to have been as successful as we have over the last 100 odd years. Being from a larger city, or within a larger catchment area, is nowhere near as important as actual success.
tomphil Posted March 28, 2015 Posted March 28, 2015 At the moment or throughout history? Burnley are bigger than us at the moment, sadly. Haha.... you're in for a shock History without a doubt.
