While this has little to do with the government, though I suppose one could argue it does contribute to the employment environment, I've recently come across what I consider to be a pretty sharp practice. I've no personal experience but do now people who have found themselves in this situation. One of two things is happening both with the same outcome:

At interview, when other abilities in a candidate have come out. the interviewer realises the candidate has the experience and ability to resolve a specific problem the company faces. The issue is not usually related to the position the candidate applied for. Candidate is then told he/she is thought unsuitable for the originally advertised role but offered a role connected to their talents which the company needs to solve this other issue.

Positions are advertised for a role with in a company and a successful candidate is appointed. It later turns out the role was advertised to solve a particular issue.

In both instances the successful candidate is offered a probationary period, on starting the position is given the specific task to complete. Once the task is complete the new employee is told he/she does suit the "company ethos/culture etc." and is dismissed inside the probationary period.

I know two people who feel this happened to them and understand from someone working in Germany it's a common practice. Apparently prevalent in IT. Cheaper than getting a consultant in.

Popped this in here as I felt it relevant to the employment discussion etc.

Do you think it might be brought about by too much employment legislation? Creative employment like creative accountancy?

I think it's simply creative employment and nothing to do with red tape. One guy I know is certain he was conned this way.

Employee on probationary period or IT consultant at ££££/day? Pretty obvious choice but not one I would want to be part of.

Prob should be on the read all about it thread. Also as yet it's only 'alleged' although nothing would surprise me about politicians. Coming hard on the heels (ooo er matron) of Lord Sewell's depraved behaviour, david Mellor and insinuations re: Harriet Harmen etc etc it seems Westminster is chock full of assorted sicko's and pervs.

*Perhaps he should have named his yacht Morning Glory.

What is the point of the Ted Heath investigation. The guy is dead and can neither defend himself nor be prosecuted yet our "overworked" plod are being saddled with a useless investigation. WHY!!!!

One argument for investigating Heath is it may lead to the prosecution of others still alive.

Saville was investigated when dead and, I believe, his driver, Ray Teret was successfully prosecuted as his victims came forward as a result of the Saville investigation.

Surely if a former PM was a paedophile the country should know? As it stands his name is being dragged through the mud with no recourse.

There were always rumours about Heath - the question is why was nothing done when he was alive and in power (same with Cyril Smith).

Too much secrecy and too much covering up in this country.

Employment laws are too lax and favour employers too much, and lack of unions to protect employees.

Same situation occurred in my business. The union soon stopped it.

You rail against employers yet you didn't object to working for them and taking their money. Have you no principles when money is involved?

They should take the employer to tribunal for unfair dismissal if the employer hasn't followed procedures within the probation period- like raising concerns surrounding their "ethos" and giving them time to address the issue.

Nothing would surprise me regarding what some employers would do.

I have written time-enacting code before to ensure the work I did (after I left) as a favour for my old boss was locked until I get paid, surprisingly they didn't pay in time, so the work locked. They then paid me within 4 hours. Maybe something you could suggest to the IT people being messed around.

Maybe the people who covered it up are still around?

Thats Jimmy Saville, Leon Brittan and now Ted Heath all having allegations muffled.

The main thing that the Saville investigation did was to produce a bunch of false claims from people trying to make a bob or two by selling their stories to the papers. Unnecessary shyte stirring in other words.

I'm sure Ray Teret's victims will agree with you.

People who have suffered any form of abuse need to be believed to aid their recovery. I'm in no doubt those abused by Saville will have gained some respite from knowing they were not alone and are now finally believed

Frankly your total lack of compassion for those you either dislike or view as irrelevant shyte stirrers leaves me, and I hope the majority, speechless.

You seem very embittered.

Jimmy Saville was a mason and that lot even managed to cover up for jack the Ripper (allegedly). Quite likely the other two were as well. :glare:

How about people who are fabricating it all?

Nothing embittered about me Paul, whatever "embittered" is supposed to mean. I am enjoying a comfortable, well earned retirement. I might have known what your attitude would be. Following the accepted PC way of thinking as you always do. You support the shysters who sell their made up stories to the newspapers then do you or is it that you just like to oppose everything that I post?

I don't think anything said in the last 3 posts is unreasonable. Anyone fabricating should be prosecuted, anyone that's a victim should get justice.

If someone is living or dead they should be investigated if there are accusations. Imagine if Operation Yewtree had never happened!

We wouldn't have done though would we? Bloody glad it did happen though!

A lot of innocent people had their careers ruined or at least interrupted by that investigation due to people jumping on the bandwagon and making money out of false accusations. They should have been jailed not the ones who fell foul of the groupies offering themselves to anyone famous.

As I said above Al, I think falsifiers should have been punished, but Savile and associated sickos needed punishing even if it was retrospective. Simple as.
