I voted for the party who I think has the best Leader and is the best man to be PM of this country and who policies I agree with

That was David Cameron and Conservative

U need 326 seats to form a government

Technically, chaddy, no. A government can be formed with any number of seats provided it has the confidence of the House. It's likely that even with a two-party coalition, the government won't be as strong as it has been this time around.

The Conservatives are likely to have the most seats and will therefore have the first attempt at forming a government but it depends on whether they can form a coalition with Lib Dems and probably the DUP to give them a Commons majority. I'm not sure what the magic number is but I think it's around the 320 mark.

So if they fail to get a coalition totalling 326 or more, do they automatically pass the chance over to Labour, or can they attempt to cling on despite not having an overall majority?

Yes they can try to carry on, 326 is the magic number Jim was referring to, anything less and they could be vulnerable to a vote of no confidence which would probably trigger another election.

No. If a minority coalition carries the confidence of the House (the other party leaders) then they will form a government. If the incumbent PM can't form any deal that carries the confidence of the House, then he is expected to resign as Primer Minister and the Queen will then ask the next likely person to form a government (Miliband, presume). What I don't understand is what happens after that point if he can't do the same.

The magic number is almost certainly effectively 323 rather than 326. You get to this by taking out The Speaker and the Sinn Fien MPs who do not take their seats. Of course Sinn Fien could change their policy if they see a political opportunity.

If the second party can't form a government (not going to happen with SNP support) then there would be another election.

It's by no means certain that it would. The Fixed Parliament Act now means that you need a 2/3rds majority of all MPs to change the act and dissolve Parliament. That means tht you need both Labour and Conservatives to agree.

There are reports from around the country of a very heavy polling turnout - for which there must be a reason. An interesting election gets even more interesting.

That normally would favour the Tories and derivatives

The Lib Dems probably won't get enough seats to be able to form a single coalition with anybody - from what I've been reading, the only realistic coalition could be Labour and the SNP. If the Conservatives get less than 300 seats then the only way they could form a coalition, most likely, would be with the SNP as well - which would be very very unlikely.

The results will be interesting to say the least. Thankfully I don't think UKIP will have much of a say either way.

ok, enough of the childish posts. We get it, you support Labour. Any more pictures like this or just plain rudeness to other people who happen not to follow your way of thinking and I will hide the posts.

Lighten up man, with the sh1te that goes on around here these days Jim posting a picture is hardly high treason!

Is it 2/3 to dissolve parliament as well as changing the act ?

That could lead to deadlock and the Monarch having to step into the process !

When I think of the Greens, I think of them as a "f&8k it,let's just spend and feel better now" party. Anti-austerity does not strike me as a sensible option, no matter how positive the alternative plan is supposed to be.

Lighten up people. Thought my lame threat might actually amuse as hiding posts is hardly scary. Anyway, I found a way to unite both left and right wings :)

Only just seen that as it was posted as I was posting. Lighten up Abbey, it was hardly a threat. The sensitivity around here is astonishing.

I think there is some evidence to suggest that there are alternatives to the harshness of austerity. However the green manifesto isn't costed or viable.
