[Archived] Poll? Assuming we still have GB as manager next season and we could keep one, who would you keep. Rhodes or Rudy

As much as I like Rudy, I'd keep Rhodes and start setting the team up to play to his strengths. The lad's still got nearly 20 goals this season in a side that's been set up to play to Rudy's strengths and (as I pointed out in the Millwall thread) with players constantly ignoring him to look for Rudy.

I suppose that means tin hat time for me now! :o

It's a difficult one. I think they'll both go, but if we had to choose one it wouldn't be an easy decision.

Based on Bowyer's dull style of play, you'd probably have to say Rudy is the better candidate for keeping on. We don't play to Rhodes' strengths at all and he's clearly getting frustrated by the current state of affairs at the club.

On the other hand, Jordan has a goalscoring record which is second-to-none. Rudy's had a good season and a half but is not as prolific as Jordan, and probably never will be.

If I had to choose I'd probably keep Rhodes and pray Bowyer got the boot soon into next season, allowing a new manager to come in and hopefully play a system designed to get the best out of our guaranteed goalscorer.

Quite frankly though, I'll be shocked if we go into the new season with either Rhodes or Gestede at the club.

I agree that Rhodes is the better option, but will Gary ever be able to set up the team to play to his strengths? I love Rhodes, his ability and his attitude but for me if we are stuck with Bowyer I think Rudy will do more damage. :(

Rhodes...

But as i stated on the Millwall thread, not much use in him, if the manager isnt capable of setting the team up to get the best out of him

or having players who do not have the brainpower to actually look up and pick him out..!!!!

Can argue all day who's better or who suits us best etc. Quite simply though if one goes, one generates a bigger fee and saves way way more in wages.

For that reason alone its a no brainer that we keep Rudy

I'd keep Rhodes. Target men to knock the ball down are findable. 20 goal a season poachers are not.

What about 20 goal a season target men? ^_^

Currently I'd rather keep Gestede. He's far more presence and has showed over 18months that he can be a fairly consistent goalscorer. 20 goals in 31 starts this season is a very decent return.

Rhodes huffs and puffs but he's bloody infuriating. Scores some great goals and no doubt will probably bag you 20 a season but his all round game is incredibly lacking. Speed, aerial ability, back to goal are all frighteningly thin and that's why I think he's never ever cut out for the Prem - he'd be back pocket for most Prem teams, as witnessed against Liverpool about two weeks ago.

We're all harping on about how we're going to be worse next season when we lose a few players, so why would we retain the one player that has to play in a team that will dominate posession and create chances? Doesn't make any sense imo.

Plus he's got a value on his head of approx double that of Gestede's and probably 3 x his wage.

Gestede has done it once. Rhodes has scored goals throughout his career. Ideally I'd keep them both. Probably well keep neither. Financially it would make sense to sell Rhodes. But who knows what our loony owners will do?

Rudy, based simply on the fact Bowyer seems to prefer him over Rhodes, and at least without that selection headache we will might have a more settled front line (STABILITY ROCKS!!!!)

I'm a fan of Rhodes, but he's probably better off elsewhere than here under this "manager".

Realistically neither will be here next season, which is a great shame.

Gestede is the better player, but Rhodes is the only professional left here.

Rhodes every time.

Realistically, both are going. Hope Jordan does brilliantly wherever he ends up and has a great career. Not fussed about Gestede.

Funny comment. Gestede has achieved that this season.

More cash for Rhodes and wage savings. Seems that may be key. Don't like Rudy for his attitude and wish to scarper as fast as possible, but if refusing to give Rhodes a number 10 playmaker and wingers who can get to the byline, then we are better served using Rudy than Rhodes.

Proper Management sets a high value for both of them.

If that 'high' value is met eg 10mn + for Rhodes; 8mn+ for Rudy

you sell one or both of them.

Bowyer is good at buying low value players....we have to go again.....its our only route.

I would buy Joe Garner and stymie Preston. Plus get Matty Derbyshire back on a free.
