chaddyrovers Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Gestede.(only just) Both tbh I like both players. But are very different types of players.

den Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I'd keep Rhodes. Target men to knock the ball down are findable. 20 goal a season poachers are not. Give me a footballing centre forward every single time.
Mercer Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Rhodes. Scores more goals and isn't as injury prone as Gestede.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted April 24, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted April 24, 2015 Give me a footballing centre forward every single time. Gestede's no footballing centre forward!, if he was no good in the air he'd be nowhere near this level!
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Assuming that Bowyer is still here it has to be Gestede. I don't think Bowyer knows how to build his system to get the most out of Rhodes which is why he is not guaranteed to play each week. I also get the feeling that Rhodes is almost at that point (if not there already) where he doesn't want to be here. With the financial situation being as it is there is a chance both may be gone, particularly if they try to force a move or the club gets an offer they can't turn down.

Do you know a manager that does, RVR? Rhodes has scored 44 goals in two seasons under Bowyer and all I've seen on here is people saying Bowyer doesn't know how to play him.... He's a bloody tough player to play to because he's so limited outside of the box. Derbyshire was a great finisher but Allardyce soon got rid because he wasn't rounded enough - turns out he was right. Rhodes could easily turn out the same unless he's prepared to knuckle down and start doing the dirty work.
ABBEY Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Wait til they've gone ... Next season don't worry I will be telling you haters I told you so .
Backroom Tom Posted April 24, 2015 Backroom Posted April 24, 2015 For me Rudy is the better player and more suited to the top flight but I would keep rhodes for the fact that its proven that even when he has a 'bad' season he will score 20 goals. When you factor in its 99% likely the strike partner will be Brown and it makes more sense to have Rhodes with him than Rudy. Rudy should generate a huge profit and I think everyone would wish him well as both he and rhodes have earned a shot at the top flight.
den Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Wait til they've gone ... Next season don't worry I will be telling you haters I told you so . Well that'll just demonstrate your total lack of understanding. We'll bloody well miss anybody we can't replace.
Jimmy612 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Wait til they've gone ... Next season don't worry I will be telling you haters I told you so . Abbey for the 1,645,367th time..... there's no such thing as a Rhodes hater. There are those that love him for the goals he's scored, and those that also appreciate that he is extremely limited in facets of his game. I praised him earlier ^^^^^^ regarding the goals he's scored. I also made special mention of that fantastic goal he scored against Forest earlier in the season on the GOTS thread. I think you're taking the easy route - He'll leave and due to our transfer Embargo we'll have to replace him with an inferior player in a loan or free transfer. Then it will be easy to say "told you so".... but you've never actually engaged in a discussion regarding his qualities/deficiencies, rather just said "haters gon hate". Well done Tom.
LDRover Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Rudy. I'm pretty sure opposition defenders don't worry about Rhodes but I'll bet they're sh1t scared of Gestede.
47er Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I would keep Rudy and play 5 across the middle. That wouldn't suit Rhodes as much. However I really believe we will lose both.
gumboots Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Rudy. I'm pretty sure opposition defenders don't worry about Rhodes but I'll bet they're sh1t scared of Gestede. They worry so little about Rhodes that they put 2 men on him most of the time in the box creating space for gestede to score. See Tuesdays first goal.
Gav Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I can think of a few times when I wish he @#/? had, GAV Thats because you're not watching properly!
tomphil Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Rhodes. He guarantees goals whether the team is good, bad or indifferent. It's a tough one and mostly depends on how we are going to play. If it's going more to percentage football you'd keep Rudy but anything else it's Jordan, just give him the chances. Rudy also represents more £££ profit which should help things and there is a tendency to play one dimensional when he starts. When he's in the mood he's unplayable but when he's not he's lazy and he's had his fair share of stinkers. Again good, bad or indifferent in games there's always a goal in Rhodes.
LDRover Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 All about perception gumboots. You see 2 marking one, I see one marking and one ball watching and leaving his man.

DavidMailsTightPerm Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 For me it is simple - has to be Rudy - Rhodes costs more in wages, and would generate a bigger fee (though some would go to Huddersfield). At this moment in time Rudy has a similar goal scoring record at Rovers - but adds more overall to the general team play.
joey_big_nose Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Assuming both were committed and fit I would take Gestede every single time. Can't really understand anyone who would disagree. Almost as prolific as Rhodes and a massive handful for any opposition in any situation, even for prem league defenders as seen in the cup run. I would love to see him paired with real pace. I think it could be deadly. Rhodes, while a great goal scorer and a real asset, can be taken out of the game much more easily. He needs to be used in the right situations. All that said both are going to leave, alongside King. So it is a moot point.
Stuart Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 We can't afford either so if we are going to keep one then we might as well keep both. Hardly a shock that I'd keep Rhodes of the two of them. Largely for the reason gumboots mention earlier. Gestede has had one good season really. He has taken a share of the goals that Rhodes used to get so instead of a 30 goal strikers we now have two twenty goal strikers. We only create so many chances and that is what we really need to work on. I have no idea why Venkys are still here (from their point of view) but the only reason to want them to stay is because they do seem to back want to keep their better players. They might not be able to attract the best players around but, since the stench of Kean faded from Ewood, when has a player left that we didn't want to go - or that didn't force a move? Rhodes for me then. Thoroughly professional, not a diva who scored goals consistently and has done for years.

mustard Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Rhodes. If we play it in the right areas he will always score goals and it might trim down the mind-numbing hoofball we often play. If we continue with Bowyer and his dross form of 'football' then Rudy is the obviously more effective choice, as he has more chance of winning the ball in the air. Realistically, Gestede wants out and has no loyalty. If we kept him and sold Rhodes he'd just whinge every transfer window. Rhodes is a true model professional.
