[Archived] Poll? Assuming we still have GB as manager next season and we could keep one, who would you keep. Rhodes or Rudy

Recommended Posts

Rhodes because he never refused to play.

This is what bothered me with Gestede he looked for long periods around the time of the speculation like he just could not be arsed. Jordan has never displayed this sort of behavior that I'm aware of.

Rudy, based simply on the fact Bowyer seems to prefer him over Rhodes, and at least without that selection headache we will might have a more settled front line (STABILITY ROCKS!!!!)

I'm a fan of Rhodes, but he's probably better off elsewhere than here under this "manager".

Realistically neither will be here next season, which is a great shame.

I think he prefers him cos its easy for him to play to Rudy. Just hoof it up there. Playing to Rhodes needs a little more tact and guile and we know how that goes with GB don't we.

Rhodes. Summed both up yesterday when despite all the Huddersfield fans being on the pitch, Rhodes pushed past the police to come to the rovers fans to clap us off for chanting his name all game; where as gestede was being interviewed saying he can't wait to leave. Both score goals for fun, one is a model professional, the other is not.

If I had to choose, Rudy.

I'll personally be happy if either of them is here next year though !

It's def down to one now gestede has @#/? on his chips now. Up until this weekend I would of wished him good luck . Now after winging at the press and saying he doesn't want to be here he can kiss my fat ass .

There's no need for that with one game still to play. He hardly needs to openly sell himself through the media as he'll know he's on his way from what his agent tells him.

He could've left with the fans' best wishes and his head held high but I feel that's gone now.

Looking at this objectively, I can't see too much wrong with his comments.

He wants to play at the highest level while his stock is high. I wish that kind of ambition infected the rest of the club. He hasn't inveighed against Rovers for not selling him already, but he hopes that if a Premier League come knocking he'll have the chance to sign for them.

None of this is new. Roque did it, Samba did it (and did it, and did it). Footballers are mercenaries and owe us no loyalty.

I would only draw the line at comments about Rhodes. It's not his business to try and unsettle a fellow team-mate.

That looks to have been toned down a bit by The Fail. Although "I hope to be in the Premier League next season. That's my ambition." still irks.

He's doing his best to burn bridges as far as I'm concerned. I hope Venkys continue to play hardball: If we get the cash that we value you at then you will be surplus to requirements. Until then you are a Blackburn Rovers player and will act accordingly. Oh and here's a fine of a week's wages for your insolence.

Hope he doesn't get the player of the season award next Saturday.

Pointless thread for me to post on, like any other thread all that will happen is people getting labeled 'Rhodes haters' suppose it makes a change from the 'venky lover' tag everyone was given previously when they had a differing view.

Main reason I don't bother posting on here anymore. Shame really as it used to be a great place :(

Besty, He's gonna come good in his final season and get that contract extension he deserves.

gestede and Rhodes at their best are never going to be anything more than mid/lower league squad players if they move to the prem, but hey they will get paid a @#/? ton more money though regardless, you've gotta love the ambitions and dignity of the modern footballer.

p.s. id prefer to keep Rhodes ahead of gestede for at least being professional and respectful about the way he goes about things.

Most likely to stay: Rhodes. Simply because his wages and the fee we'd demand would put teams off. Also selling off Gestede for a huge profit justifies Gaz's job to Madame and secures him another 12 months irrespective of results.

Problem is I feel Rhodes is probably hacked off at being dropped for Brown, having a style that doesn't suit him, and looking just as likely to get promoted with Huddersfield as with us. I think I would be too.

Personally if we could keep one it'd be Gestede. Simply because we've got players who suit a 4-5-1 - or rather 4-2-3-1 best, and Gestede is a much more effective as the lone man up front.

Biggest point is though in both cases - WE WILL NEVER PLAY TO THE STRENGTHS OF EITHER OF THEM.

- The team is too slow and deep to get anywhere near Gestede's flick ons and playing the wingers on their wrong foot limits the amount of crosses coming in.

- There's no creative foil to supply Rhodes and bring others into play, and no wingers can get to the byline to give him the crosses he needs.

Stupid really, we have 2 of the best strikers in the division and do nothing to optimize the effectiveness of either.

"Keep Rhodes and Gestede, replace the manager, and (if we need to cut costs) everyone else up for sale"

Discuss.

That's actually the route I'd go down if they could both be persuaded to stay.

Yes - although cost wise I'm not sure we can afford to, whether tackling the embargo or not.

I imagine most managers could get a team together which would do well in the championship with that type of foil up front.

Sums it up perfectly.

Football fans must be among the most precious and easily offended group of folks going.

Would it have been better for the fans if he said nothing? Absolutely. Does it really matter? Absolutely not.

Good luck Rudy much rather have a brilliant mercenary than a Chris Brown with a Rovers badge tattooed on his Arse

I wonder who that was aimed at

but anyways, what your saying isn't even true, most "football fans" actually don't seem to give a toss, hence the over the top gestede love in on match days, but me personally I do give at least a bit of a toss, its not to much to ask for a player that's earning mucho £££££ from your club(the same club the pulled him from reserve team obscurity and honed his abilities) to just be professional and at least wait until the seasons over before touting himself about in the press, etc....

Not aimed at anyone in particular, just as a collective I feel like people expect footballers not to treat their job as a job.

we have no loyalty to the players so why should it be different, I treat them all as paid mercenaries, sure it's nice when they get an affection for the club but there isn't much about this club these days to make it appealling.

Would you tell everyone that you were looking for a new job - before you had one lined up? Would you tell your bosses that you thought you and your other best worker should be off to better companies?

If I was as outstanding in my field in the way he and Rhodes are then possibly but honestly probably not to that extent. However something similar happened very recently and on the back of it had discussions with the boss and told him where I stood on it.

I'm not as cut throat though and realise the grass isn't always greener but it's often those that are that get to the top. Rhodes true professionalism whilst greatly appreciated here could eventually hamper him, if he somehow went off the boil he may regret not pushing for a move.

Rudy is older, less proven and more in demand (I would guess), it's quite possible if he doesn't get a move now he won't get back into the top flight.
