[Archived] Rovers v Ipswich on sky

Recommended Posts

It's about time we got some TV money. Can anyone explain how Financial FAIR play works when the number of time a team is on Sky can have a bit influence on income? For anyone who cares, check the number of time Leeds have been on, compared to us. How on earth is that fair?

FFP via the FA doesn't dictate to the TV companies who gets on TV, but i know what you mean. Leeds get on Sky all the time because they have a far bigger fanbase than any other club in the Football League, which equals more subscribers and more money for Sky. Leeds could be in League 2 and they'd get on Sky more than a Rovers team in the Championship. Sky have no interest in what's 'fair' and the footballing bodies have no influence over Sky.

I just found this on a Leeds forum.

Obviously this is much more common now a days, especially in the Premier League where not only Sky Sports hold broadcasting rights, so do BT Sports. However; in the Championship this season, Leeds have been on TV seven times already, with three of our next four games also set to be broadcast live on Sky too, not bad for a mid-table Championship club eh.

This was last season, but I think they have been on a similar number of times this season too. So FFP is designed to stop a wealthy owner putting money into a club, but Sky can pay a club what they want. Not too sure how much Sky pay per game but how is this fair, not only to us, but to all the other clubs who have hardly been on!

Sky will just show whichever game gives them the highest viewing figures and therefore the most advertising revenue. They don't care about fairness. they run our game afterall. Leeds have a large international support and so will always take precedence in this league. If we assume that there is 1 or 2 games a week there must have been about 60 games on in the season which should mean each team should be on about 5 times. Our 1 time must be the lowest but when you consider our small fanbase and our mediocre perfomances that's why.

Would be much fairer and better as a spectacle if the league picked the games and took the commercial side out of it but we have sold our soul to the devil and given up the chance to make this kind of decision.

Ipswich have been on Sky 9 times already this season, apparently.

Quite surprised at that.

What is perhaps even more surprising, is that we have featured the least, even including this Saturdays second appearance. It has been suggested that there are influential people, who have taken a dislike to Rovers for some reason. It seemed to start when an agent was on there crying about his son not being given a fair crack of the whip, like Chris Smalling was!

I'm going out of some morbid curiosity and hopefully to see the new Mr Accy Stanley take a bow. No real views about Mick's side, although I do like him, gives oodles to charity.

Would like to end on a win, but fear players have booked their hols and can't be arsed, Jordan apart. GB esconsed in the role, a long summer to come and more of the same uncertainty.

Lots of quiet message boards, until the fire sale begins?
