Brown, I thought he looked useful especially for a free signing.

.

I don't think Brown and useful should ever be in the same sentence when referring to his tenure as a Rovers player. As my 16 year old summed it up "he's the worst player I've seen in a rovers shirt...."

Maybe your 16 year old should manage Sheffield Wednesday. Their manager thought our win at Hillsborough was down to Brown and Wednesday being unable to deal with his physicality.

Brown puts himself about but in all honesty the championship is above his level in the lower leagues he'd prove a handful for some defenses especially taking the weight off someone else

I have already explain why I would stick with Bowyer. see previous posts on this subject

But you changed your mind...

Now is the time to twist don't you think as giving a new guy a full pre season makes more sense than giving GB another go.. We all know he's not taking us anywhere

Nobody is saying he's a world beater but when the ball goes up to him it generally sticks. He's a serviceable target man, good back up and didn't cost a transfer fee.

Unfortunately his skill is virtually nill can get a lot of physical guys in non league where the ball sticks but you need that bit extra

I'd definitely keep him due to cost and in some games his physicality could be an asset but we'll have to wait and see what happens with our frontmen wether they stay or go and what replacements come in..

Oh give over, he's bloody useless.

If it was your cash being waxed would you still be ecstatic with 9th? Nah you wouldn't. It's easy spending others peoples dosh.

what I am attempting to show her is that the people who are telling her that GB is very popular with the fanbase and has their full backing are telling her a pack of lies

You might have been better setting up a petition instead, if this is what you want to highlight. A poll should be set up in an impartial way, rather than with a preference indicated to the people voting, which I think you did in your original post, and now in this. A petition would at least get rid of the Burnley fan problem you're currently having.

Saying brown is decent because he does a job as a target man is like lauding a goal keeper who can't stop shots or command a box because he takes good goal kicks. Brown for all he's probably an awkward lump to play against is a striker who doesn't score and only contributes the bare minimum you'd expect any professional playing in the championship to do.

I think he's symptomatic of fan expectations being rock bottom if he passes for a useful player

To be fair Mick McCarthy thought enough of Varney to play him against Norwich and I'd reckon he's a better judge than you or I. We'd have to agree to disagree about Brown, I thought he looked useful especially for a free signing. Apparently Alan Myers hasn't been able to work for a while because of illness.

As ever, there are nuances which get overlooked in the rush to doom and misery. That was my interpretation of Bucksrovers' post.

So you and Mad Mick rate Varney. Nuff said.

In regards to Brown, he's impressed me on a couple of matches, most notably the one against Bolton at home, but other than that...... Nah.

To be fair, I've only seen him a couple of times but he looked ok. As ever, of course, the criticism on here goes way ott.

It's a no from me. The reason being that he did a very good, short-term job but since then, I don't think that he has got the players fit, working to their capabilities and his tactics/philosophy is just negative. I want a manager who motivates, gets the players to close down the opposition and who truly believes that they can consistently win matches. He's done an amicable job but we have overlooked managers who could have done even better with what is in place.

If you've only seen him a couple of times, how can you argue with those who see him play on a regular basis?

Brown has 20 appearances for Rovers. A few of those have been from the bench, some away from home. I've seen him play 90 and 80 or so minutes in the games in which he started that I saw. I reckon I've seen around as much of Brown as some of those who denounce him.

I think he's decent for a freebie and is unfairly criticised. Some on here have scapegoated him from the word go. 'Twas ever thus and I've been guilty of it in the past.

I do think some go over the top but I would say he's a lower table Champ player at best. I have been far from impressed with him on the whole, bar a few games where I thought he looked relatively useful. Wasn't impressed with him after the Ipswich game during the 'lap of honour' where he swagged around looking smug, failing to clap the fans even once.

was it 7 or 9 goals for a low league championship club? woeful player ,not OTT or anything just the truth .I didn't stay for that ,they didn't deserve a lap of "honour".

The clapping thing is something I noticed as well. Not just the Ipswich one but every time he's been subbed and gone off he just trudges off. One of his first games at Ewood he'd put it about and got a really good ovation when he went off but ignored it. Not the best way to win over fans.

For me he's proved a handy squad man and no way would I have signed him but I understand it as you do need some lumps in this division. Don't mind him being around but he should always be 3rd or 4th choice. Even if we keep R & G we need a different option from the bench. A nippy striker with a goal or two in him.

Just heard a brief pre-recorded interview on Talksport with GB talking about winning Premier League and I'm sure he's said 'Great achievement by Sir Jack Walker'! Will have to listen on catch up.
