1arC Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Formica was a real dodgy signing with allsorts going on in the background and let's not forget that he was valued at 3 mill but a whopping 1.5 mill of it was the 'agents' fee. It stunk to high heaven and if they'd have got away with it loads more similar would have followed. It was the set up they had ready to really fleece Rovers and likely most players in and out would have gone via that 'system'. Agreed and it was just as well this one was the one and only unknown from overseas, who appeared to have third party ownership issues. As you say, plenty more were on the Horizon had this one gone well.

Maybe it was this one as well, but I remember the "small transfer fee plus huge agent's fee" as being Rochina. Something like 500k plus 1500k agent's fee, which some here thought was fine.
thenodrog Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Everyone likes to get excited about the Formic deal but of course 3rd party ownership of players is not prohibited and is in fact commonplace overseas. So if he was initially the subject of 3rd party ownership the deal would be problematic, but if the 3rd parties then relinquished their ownership the move would be permissible. Was the move permitted within the rules? Possibly. Was it a good signing? Probably not as not a bad player but we massively overpaid for him at 3m imo. There'd be more than one sucking at that particular nipple imo.
Jimmy612 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 If Shaw was acting against the wishes of the owners, why is he still employed? You'd get a long line of candidates to take over that cosy gig on his money. I usually agree with you on most things, but I think on the court case, Shaw took the fall in a laughable attempt by the owners to get out of paying the cost. Exactly right.

I recall sitting near the directors area in the JW when we played Sheff Wed in the league cup one night and Formica/Rochina and even Goodwille (I'd forgot about him) all played well. After each goal coco gave the thumbs up to Anderson in the directors box who was busily back slapping a grinning Balaji, their plan was well underway, sickening stuff.
Backroom Mike E Posted June 5, 2015 Backroom Posted June 5, 2015 I must confess, I feel that Formica was actually about as good as (and a similar player to) Marshall. Possibly better although we haven't seen Marshall as a no10 yet.

Well it all went wrong in the end, but just a pity we ended up where we are. Kean made himself a mint, but Anderson may well have got his just deserts. I don't know how he got away with it, as he appeared to be running the club from what I could see and that is against FA Rules. What Sir Alex said about him was quite correct, I have never seen a bigger weasel associated with Rovers, in my life.

Possibly better although we haven't seen Marshall as a no10 yet. Couldn't cross to save his life though. I quite liked him he always worked hard but he was another who was shunted around all over the pitch. He'd probably have been brilliant in league one which probably says it all. He was never ever going to be the 10 million pound player the fat controller pitched him at.

Forget the fact that he didn't play upfront or score goals. He had long hair mind.
joey_big_nose Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 None of the players brought in by Kean - with the two exceptions of Yakubu and Dann - did anything to justify their fees. Only reason we managed to stay up in his first season is we were lucky enough to have two good uns fron the academy come through (Hoilett and Jones) and a few decent holdovers from previous eras (Samba, Nzonzi, Pedersen etc.) I'm not sure one man has ever managed to spend so much money on so little. From Goodwillie, to Formica and Rochina, to Murphy and Etuhu, to countless Portuguese no bodies, Best, Orr Its an incredible record.

Yeah and don't forget, he was being defended by other managers and the press. Kean was never ever appointed for his football management ability. He was a stooge and a convenient one at that. He walked away a rich man and stung the club big time. We will never see anything like it again, I hope.

glen9mullan Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Whatever the outcome of this investigation it's good for football in general . Far too long , football has been self regulated and the billion pound empire allowed to mix and pay whoever they wish . Kentaro has provided millions for our national team , surely no one can rock that boat

tomphil Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Handing over evidence and co-operating. Sounds like they might escape a deep investigation, still we can hope ! At least if they got put out of business it would be a small bit of payback I suppose. Edit: Seems they put themselves out of business. Hopefully that will further arouse suspicion with the FBI and they'll do a thorough investigation down every avenue of that lot. Do they run tantric classes in Prison ? I wonder if anyone in Brunei can see what the FBI are trying to do here
