It looks like Paul Clement was sacked for over achieving at Derby: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/35533154

I wonder who Derby could look at for the Manager/Head Coach job to guarantee under achievement........I'll have to give that a second or two to consider hmmmmmmmm

Meanwhile in an unrelated move Craig Short ex first team coach at Rovers as turned up also at Derby as an assistant coach to their U21s squad.

Interesting times.

Mugs. You don't get to choose when you are promoted. You get there and then worry about it.

If what he meant was that he didn't want to throw money at a promotion push and then fail, ending in financial problems and FUP then he has a point. It sounds more like Clement wanted backing and they wouldn't. Maybe there was an ultimatum, and they called it.

As a fan I'd be mortified if the club didn't want to succeed for fear of failure. That will turn a Championship club into a League One club very quickly.

It's right not to spend and go bust but surely they could have managed Clement's expectations.

One thing is for sure, there will be queue a mile long for the job.

The Derby team should come out to the tune of feeling groovy

Clement got more than enough backing! Just an odd decision all around. That being said, they should be walking the league with their squad.

Absolutely barking comments from the Derby bloke, I've never understood the "too soon to go up" argument. Surely you're better off going up and taking your chances when you get there. Even if you get relegated you're no worse off than if you didn't go up! Even more so since the advent of the Premiership and the vast money on offer.

Even stranger sacking than ever in the light of those comments. If they wanted someone to guarantee not going up with a squad that should be walking the division, Clement seemed to be making a pretty darned good fist of it.

Pretty ruthless to sack Clement but just shows how high the expectations are there. If only they could steal Dyche.

High expectations?

Didnt their owner said promotion wasn't the target this season?

Will be interesting who Derby will appoint as the long term manager? Maybe Nigel Pearson or David Moyes will be appoint come the summer?

Its a silly argument. Some Rovers fans accused Bill Fox (who should have a tribute at Ewood really had a far tougher job than Williams, Coar, etc in my opinion and died before he could get his rewards) and the board of not wanting to get promoted after numerous playoff failures. Even though one of them was largely down to a referee. Shame people conveniently forgot about that when accusing Rovers of "buying" promotion. Chants of "spend some money or f*** off" aimed at Fox I believe occurred as well.

Talking of Derby stealing managers could you actually rule them out making an attempt for Lambert? After all Rovers took Appleton when he had only been at Blackpool for such a short time. I don't think Lambert would talk to them but still...

Clement wasted a million quid on bloody markus olsson so i'm not surprised if the owners didn't want to give him loadsamoney, i can see Short talking bowyer up behind the scenes though and trying to pave a way for him to be brought in

Why not say no then, why give him the million??

Bizzare way to run the club.

Was he a Clement's signing or signing made by a transfer committee.

Plus isn't Chris Evans(former Wolves scout) there as Director of football?

Rhodes on bench, again, tonight for M'boro.

Any Club in Championship paying an initial £9million for a player should have him in the starting line-up when signed otherwise, what's the point of spending such a huge sum ? Think if I was Gibson, would be asking manager a few questions.

Who cares? Hope you Leave some brain space for fun and excitement, and not clogged up with useless information about meaningless football folk. :)

It does seem strange. Although, surprised some of Rhodes detractors haven't put the boot in futher (i.e ...is he not playing because he's been found out in training?

Is he in poor physical fitness) :P

Well thats only going to be 800k profit on Rhodes because the promotion bonus seems to be going downhill....by the way does anyone know if the promotion bonus option applies longer than just this year???

And they have scored 1 goal in 3 games as well, 2 of which they have lost. very strange, not like JR is short of match fitness either, fitness maybe but not match fitness. Sometimes think managers try and be too clever when they should be just putting him in the 1st eleven if he is good enough to spend £9M on.
