West Ham 2  Rovers 1

In first half dominated by West Ham, Rovers took the lead on 37 min. With Gillespie running at West Hams defence for the first time he was fouled by Winterburn and Thompsons resultant free kick from the right hand side, was hit home by Yorke from 6 yards out.

Within 12 min of the start of the second half Rovers lost possession in midfield, Di Canio collecting the ball ran into the area to be brought down by Todd, who conceaded a penalty. Di Canio putting the penalty past Friedel to equalise on 57 min.

With a minute to go before the end of the game West Ham took the lead when Defoe collected a pass from J.Cole to  shoot past Friedel from 18 yards.
