The Venky strategy of stopping spending does seem to make sense, but for one thing - Leon Best.

Why sanction a multi million pay off for him if they have had enough and are looking to dump the club? They could just ignore Best and continue with the head in sand approach, but they presumably consented to the spend to get rid of him.

Don't be spoiling the doomsday scenarios with any common sense.

Multi million ?

He had just under 12 months to go on his contract.

Bear in mind that for every £10,000 per week these 'stars' gross in wages, it costs Rovers about £1,400 per week in employers' national insurance contributions.

'Settlements' can be very complex but if you have operators smart enough, you can minimise taxation and NI implications for both employer and employee.

I would therefore suggest that the net net cost for Rovers over the next 6 months or so is at worst neutral. It seems quite clear that Bowyer wanted Best completely out of the club as quickly as possible and I am sure that even the V's are aware that perceived disruptives (as evidenced with their treatment of Sam, JW and Hunt to name a few) should be removed as soon as possible.

Yes -have you not heard Windy? rather than sign new players this Summer the new charm offensive is to slowly release the names of those who aren't leaving. So lets all rush down to the Club shop and buy our ''Marshall '' shirts then we can all celebrate him not going. Much more fun than the old days where you had to just get a Shearer one and have done with it. I have just got one with ''Trialist'' on then it wont go out of date and an ordered an Away shirt with ''Loan'' on but apparently wont be in stock until after 31st August when Window shuts!!!

Joking apart though pal , I totally agree with you- I have renewed and I barely understand why.

Can see it now on Jeff Stelling when teleprinter flashes up 'GOAL'' for Blackburn scored by A Trialist , like those part time Scottish low life teams like Alfeckinchinye United.

That post made me chuckle. Whilst I don't see anything unusual in the practice of getting people in on trial and having a look at them - we used to do this all the time under the Walker Trust when we had no money to spend - the names do not particularly excite and we will be quite fortunate if they're of the quality required. Surely there must be any number of youngsters at Premiership Clubs looking for experience on loan?

The other thing is that LT said we were down to 18 outfield players including the likes of O Sullivan, Lenihan and Mahoney so whilst we're not quite in the Blackpool category we don't want to be going into the season barely able to fill the bench. GB and his scouting staff need to start pulling their collective finger out.

You lost a bit of credibility in the above when you said 'if you have operators smart enough', which we all know we don't!

Leon Best will have walked away with a full year's salary, I've no doubt about it!

Whether or not it saves money over the next 12 months, it would still require Venkys to cough up a significant lump sum to get shut immediately. If they were planning on bailing imminently or stopping funding and dropping the club into administration then they didn't need to do it. It would have made more sense to plod along meeting the clubs obligations and pocket what cash they can from sales.

If Best was on at least 30k a week and had 52 weeks remaining on his contract then that is £1.5 million minimum, so they will have signed a cheque for a seven figure sum to get him out when they didn't need to.

Bingo. Nobody can take any logic from the actions of owners who seem completely detached from reality. Despite MMs "understanding" - I can almost guarantee that most, if not all staff at Ewood, will be completely in the dark regarding the intentions of the owners.

Reason for thinking this; I am sure they still don't even know their own reasons for keeping hold if the club.

I doubt he will have got it all. Most of it I have little doubt.

Well, that went a long way to settling my concerns........

Even if they recoup it in six months - why spend the money - when, according to your theory, they can sell all our playing assets now get as much out as they can and then (I presume) let us going into administration ? Also - is Bank Of India not one of the main creditors and the Venky's bank ? Would they risk the relationship with their main businesses bank by effectively losing it money ?

Not saying you are wrong - but we have had this doomsday scenario since we got relegated - and yet they have continued to fund us when some said they would sell all the players, pocket the parachute payments and leave us to rot.

Bottom line - we are losing too much money - something has to be reigned in - even if only to get us out of the grips of FFP.

It's not about settling concerns. Trying to predict the future under these owners is difficult at best.

As DMTP says - the prediction about them bailing in the next few weeks has a few bits of conflicting reasoning.

I'm no more worried than I've ever been in terms of the direction this ownership will take us.

Only flagging what is on Twitter !

One pertinent point though, Glenn Roeder (part of Owls' Exec Management team) is seemingly a big Rhodes' fan.

Rhodes' dad is goalkeeping coach at Wednesday, I don't believe anything on twitter though. We rejected 12 million from Hull, rhodes isn't going for less than that embargo or not if you ask me.

Well....an ITK poster on a Wednesday forum posted two days back that they could expect a MASSIVE signing this week... He supposedly got the info from the "horse's mouth" and their owners are ready to spend 10 million pounds on a striker.... He might as well have been spouting nonsense but then again I wouldn't be surprised if they went in for rhodes..

Hull episode 12 months ago. Seismic change in Rovers' circumstances. He will go for far less than £12million.
