I think it's a terrible decision not to give Chris Taylor a new deal, I really do. Good squad player, never whinged and always done well enough when given a chance.

You just did JH. That's effectively how I think his agent will be viewing the situation.

btw.... I'd delete your final paragraph. I doubt GB will be allowed to offer anyone a pay rise. For 1. We have to get the wage bill down and 2. Up one players wage will result in a queue forming outside Bowyers office seeking the same and a massive blow to squad morale when that is necessarily denied. Who knows that may be the reason that Taylor is being allowed to leave. He might have been promised a pay rise this season and then had the offer withdrawn because of the situation.

The risk of losing Rhodes/Gestede existed before the embargo came into force, and if anything we should be resisting approaches even more stubbornly now our chances of replacing any of them are diminished.

Offering pay-rises and contract extensions, albeit sensibly, to the good players still at the club might be the only way of progressing through the next 12-18 months. We can't bring anyone in beyond the restrictions in place, our wage bill has supposedly been drastically reduced from what it was 2 years ago.

The rumours were that we offered Josh King a good deal to stay, and we gave Rhodes an improved deal last summer, so I don't think it is beyond possible.

The significant savings made from losing the big earners like Robinson, not to mention offloading numerous other players like Spearing, Taylor, Varney, King etc. means there would be some room for manoeuvre in ensuring those assets remaining can be retained.

FFP cannot prevent the club giving new contracts to existing players. That might be one of the few ways we can cope with the embargo.

I actually like Taylor - and without FFP would give him a new contract. But if it comes down to Lenihan or Taylor getting a new contract (whatever happened to Lenihan's contract renewal ?) - I would give it to Lenihan.

Just been told Cairney has definately gone...

:(

can you say where this comes from?

I read somewhere (online, might have been RoversMad or the LT) that a dingle from Selby (where Cairney's family are from) was saying that Cairney had been telling the Selby locals that he wanted a move to Fulham and was pushing for it. Probably complete hogwash but a wage rise and a move to west London could appeal to a young lad. If he doesn't want to stay then no point keeping him really.

I always struggle to believe that a highly paid footballer would go around in public saying that he wanted to move to a particular club. It could have all sorts of negative ramifications for him.

:) I enjoyed writing it. The very mention of PNE Shaw at Rovers really, really, irritates. Also were all being nicer to each other, I think ;)

We're still not on topic.

Someone buy some of our players please. The more I think of hungry young players queuing up to come and play for us on less than 10k per week the better it sounds.

Not picking on Al but he keeps going on about star quality and creativity. But then Cairney gets mentioned! Give me an aggressively motivated, disciplined and focused group anyday for this division. Finishing touches are nice. Soft touches aren't. He isn't good enough to build a team around and that's what his style demands. We've got our poacher in Rhodes. Make the other ten defend and graft like their lives depend on it and he can bag from the odd chance that comes his way. Our best bet of getting out of this league is being miserly in defence not little stepovers and back heels. It's not two weeks since he was moaning about supposedly being a marked man. How does he think Rhodes or Gestede feel? It's even more important now that we try and emulate Burnley's stats when promoted of less than 40 conceeded. Hook or by crook.

Nice little speech. Pity it's completely wrong. A team of grafters is not my idea of entertainment. Nobody enjoys Big Sam style football. Arte and Labore. Labore on it's own is tedious and boring.

Probably best not to get too far ahead of ourselves with Cairney and a possible transfer. But, as they say, no smoke without fire.....

i don't really believe the story but not for that reason. How many highly-paid young footballers post shyte on social media ? Lots. A young lad telling his mates stuff in a small town, or his parents telling other locals stuff in a small town, is hardly beyond the realms of possibility.

I'm pretty sure that he was offered a contract...he might of chosen to see what other offers are out there given that Bowyer doesn't rate him enough to start. Yes we need squad players, but apart from a few bad apples, players generally want to play and if he isn't going to get it here, then he will go elsewhere to find it.

Ipswich will be allowing Luke Varney to undergo his rehabilitation from injury with them at their training centre after he left Blackburn.

http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/luke-varney-to-undergo-rehabilitation-at-ipswich-town-2506647.aspx

So there's another one gone that won't be coming back. Not that I'm disappointed. I would have been staggered had he been given a new contract here.

Still, if we add him to the list of departures:

Luke Varney

David Dunn

Paul Robinson

Jay Spearing

Alex Baptiste

Paul Taylor

Josh King

and also at this stage Chris Taylor and Darragh Lenighan who are out of contract.

Its looking like quite an exodus.

Lose Cairney/Rhodes/Gestede and what the hell are we going to do next season?

Is £3.5m for Cairney correct? If so 'Ta very much'!

And then what?

Still under a transfer embargo. Another player gone. Another hole to fill. Limited to loans (which are last minute business at the end of August) and free transfers (decent ones to be snapped up by other clubs).

If we are planning on using a 4 man midfield all season how are we going to do that?

Marshall-Evans-Williamson-Lowe-Conway-O'Sullivan are the only ones we've got to pick from. Marshall/Lowe will probably also be used at right back at times given Henley's injury record. Lowe isn't back from his injury yet.

I still expect Paul Taylor to be given a contract at some stage. Something I'm not particularly enthused by.

I'm not sure but I think that at £3.5m Cairney is very overpriced.

A club that finished way behind us in the league last season and that will be competing against us next season clearly don't agree. They must think he is worth that money and that he can do a good job for them whatever position they chose to put him into.

The general policy should be to not sell any of our better players to Championship clubs. Premier League only.

Gary has a super masterplan, do not fret!

Look at his track record in bringing in superb loans such as Paul Taylor, Luke Varney, Jay Spearing and subsequently turning loan deals into permanent ones for crap players like Evans, or signing them on frees like Varney. Also look at the amount of keepers he likes to wastefully recruit like Steele, that must give us real pleasure in knowing we have many keepers available.

I mean we even bring promising players in on frees and then let them leave after a few months, ala Judge, some we sign and we dont even see, like Dabo and Songo'o it's like a game of cluedo, its brilliant for the fans.

However lets not forget, Gestede, Conway, Marshall and Killa have proved to be good signings, a ratio of around 1 in 4 for successful signings gives us a great chance of recruiting good players this summer.

The source where the news come from is (in my opinion) solid.

If I post too much specifics about it then it wouldnt be fair to the source...

Sorry its vague and some might not appreciate that but just trying to pass on info...

I think you chose to ignore the implication (or is it inference?) in the phrase 'bought the league'. Of course all teams buy and sell players and pay their wages, the meaning of 'bought the league' relates to using money you didn't and could never generate yourselves - it is also further nuanced with an inference that the amounts were well in excess of revenues. So for example Man United didn't buy their titles, neither did Liverpool as they spent the money they generated themselves. Chelsea and City on the other hand did buy their titles, at least initially, not sure what the situation is for them today. Instead of frothing at the mouth when it is mentioned why not just accept that because of the generosity of one fan you were able to enjoy a period of football that you would never have been able to without him, not even close. Even the subsequent years in the top flight flowed from his generosity and, more relevant in the longer haul, vision.

Abbey mate, take a chill pill - or get down the docs for some 'Californian sunshine' tablets - I think working in bandit territory has totally taken away your sense of perspective and I worry for your health.

Anyway, I've gone off topic - we'd buy them using our revenues.
