[Archived] Transfer Talk Part 2

Recommended Posts

The source where the news come from is (in my opinion) solid.

If I post too much specifics about it then it wouldnt be fair to the source...

Sorry its vague and some might not appreciate that but just trying to pass on info...

if this goes through you can add an 'i' to the beginning of your name :)

Can people stop saying 'good fee' etc FFS. I'm not even his biggest fan, but it undoubtedly weakens us at a time when we cannot replace him unless it's a loan or a free transfer.

Absolutely. What's the use of money you are not allowed to spend. Might as well be Metabele Bongo Beads.

A good fee that won't even touch the sides, that we can't use to replace him!

Quite what's good about losing Cairney to a team that finished WAAAAAY below us last season I don't know.

'No loss',

How many times have I heard that over the last few years?

It's very simple; you sell your better players, don't/can't spend the money on replacements of the same level, bring in journeymen instead- what happens?.

Remember Den of this parish's apt saying:

'Buy 1st division players, get first division football'. Don't think he meant League 1

That's just not true. You make things up to suit your agenda. There is now no (nil) skill left in the whole squad. Thanks a lot Bowyer. You just screwed up the whole of next season.

bit paranoid there Al, i really don't have an agenda...but Cairney was a big sulky girl at times last season.

good overreaction though saying 'the whole of nect season' is screwed up. You're getting as petulant as Cairney ;)

Maybe Cairney and his agent have asked to move? Maybe they've been tapped up and offered more money? Who knows

I've always found Cairney to be frustrating and unproductive and if it is £3.5M then that's a really good fee, BUT, all things considered this is still bad news. The fact that a player would choose lowly Fulham ahead of us shows where we really are just now. Maybe under a different manager Cairney could shine, well we'll soon find out won't we.. I suspect he'll continue to flatter to deeive but if we are left with 2 of Evans, Williamson and Lowe in midfiled then any version of Cairney improves that choice considerable.

I'd be surpirsed if you could do part exchanges under FFP as the makeweight player would be valued at £0 which would effect his contract and the tax situation etc. Unless we wanted to start making illegal payments I don't think we could do that.

Come the January transfer window we MAY be able to buy players. Why the panic I don't understand, there are PLENTY of good players available on loan from premiership teams, most activity always takes place at the end of August...

By January the way things are going we will be in a relegation scrap.

Make no mistake, this is a shocking development at the club, and I am looking forward to the excuses to be rolled out by Bowyer and the club as to why they are allowing one of our star men to join a rival for a relatively low fee.

These good players you refer on loan to only become available one the Premier League teams have done their business and filled their positions. i.e. the end of August. It is then a mad scramble between Championship clubs to acquire the best of those. We can't offer the wages and our manager isn't mates with Mourinho or Giggs, so our chances of landing some youngsters from Chelsea or United are virtually non existent.

Maybe Cairney and his agent have asked to move? Maybe they've been tapped up and offered more money? Who knows

If it is purely down to money then maybe we could have used some of the money we were offering Josh King a few weeks ago to give him a pay rise?

Cairney's departure tells us all we need to know about Rovers and our owners.

Bottom line is that they've pumped-in well over £100million and decided enough is enough.

You don't sell your better players if promotion is a realistic ambition.

Sadly, the exit door is revolving now and expect other 'notables' to follow.

Let's agree to disagree. Don't want to fall out.

The question is can we afford the wages for Premiership loans. Most of them will be on more than £10k per week. Ridiculous I know but probably true.

We may well need to get a few in if we start haemorrhaging players.

I think in terms of the owner's intentions, the real barometer will be if Rhodes gets sold. We should feel anxious if that happens.

Losing Cairney is bad enough, however. He had his faults, but it is virtually impossible under the terms of the embargo to replace like-for-like. I wonder how hard exactly we fought to keep him.

Without wishing to be a nervous Nora, I already said we'd be flirting with relegation next season, this doesn't encourage me to change my opinion.

I honestly don't think it's the end of the world. He's a talented lad but how effective is he if we're honest?

Last season he played 32 times, scored 3, assists 3. http://www.whoscored.com/Players/79583/Show/Tom-Cairney

Marshall - P37 Scored 5, assists 7 http://www.whoscored.com/Players/78147/Show/Ben-Marshall

Conway - P29 Scored 3, assists 10 http://www.whoscored.com/Players/9660/Show/Craig-Conway

I'd rather lose Cairney than Marshall or Conway based on last seasons performances.

Could be a load of reasons if this goes through. Most likely he's wanted off and good money has been offered so he's seen as a good sacrifice to help pay the bills for a few months. On the other hand we could owe another big payment on him or he could have been promised a big pay rise. I know he's a good player with a bit of potential but he's also a big wuss and another one who this half arsed manager just doesn't know what to do with so I'm 50/50 on this, I'd be more happy if someone was offering this doh for Hanley though!

It'll be interesting if this is a one off or the start of the mass exodus most of us have known will eventually happen. I'll be very distressed if the money goes to paying off that @#/? Best.......

Strangely other posters stats tell a completely different story (from memory).

I'd rather lose none of them, particularly not to clubs like Fulham. They are the only midfielders we have at the club who can do anything going forward and give us options from an attacking point of view.

Any predictions as to when the club will bother to inform us of his departure? Information from Ewood is like getting blood out of a stone, and Bowyer and Shaw will be all too aware of the furious reaction that most supporters will have and the likely impact on ticket sales.

We can be sure that the club website, followed by the Lancashire Telegraph, will be the last to break the news.

I'll go for July 1st.

I think they were more geared towards how the team does when Cairney is on the pitch, as well as his own key passes. key tackles etc. Bluebruce is the one that posted them(i think). I was just posting what his goal contributions were. Both are valid, or equally meaningless, depending on your view of stats. What i will say though is that he is in the team to create, something that he didn't do very well last season.

He's having a medical now according to Sky. i saw it on a Fulham MB.

i'd like to think we have somebody lined up or that O'Sullivan is capable of stepping up. It's the hope that kills.

You don't sound happy :)

I think the main issue with most of us on here is not the fact he's leaving, but the fact that it's to strengthen a rival championship team.

Let's face it our record over the last couple of seasons of letting our players do this has been a really good move for us:

David Jones - Dingles - Dingles Promoted

Alan Judge - Brentford - Brentford in Play-offs

Strengthening the opposition is a real no no and sends the wrong message to the rest of the players we actually want to keep.

As much as I think Cairney's a bit overrated, I'm not happy mainly for the reasons above.
