Bowyer not having met the Venkys this summer is a concern. Shocking finances and the threat of our best players leaving have been a worry every summer, but the Venkys opting out of meeting the manager is a new and worrying development.

Venkys could only afford one plane ticket and Bowyer had some drying paint he wanted to get personality tips from. So they sent the Finance Director instead.

It's what they ask him that counts really. Neither of those two are very direct in their questioning.

The usual stuff like have the owners set a target for the coming season and what are their thoughts on last season.

Also will Gary be looking to put out a settled side this season and look to leave it to gel if it's doing ok.

Does he now have his first choice defence in mind after having a good look at them all last season via the regular changes.

Why's he not looking to have another different striking option on the bench.

Actions speak louder than words, couldn't care less what Bowyer says in an interview. Besides, he'll get scrutinised regardless of what he says.

Maybe he'll be honest with us. I'm really starting to think that we don't have any (incoming) transfer plans of any real substance and at best we will scrabble around - Blackpool style - before the season starts to cobble a team together.

One thing I don't understand. The was a quote today from Bowyer that he expected/hoped that Chris Taylor would sign a contract but in the retained list on the Rovers site it didn't list him as having been offered a new contract and was instead 'free to talk to other clubs'. It just seems very amateurish. No wonder players want out or at least become unsettled if they are made to feel unwanted.

I very much doubt Chris Taylor uses the website to see if he is in the team or not...

If he's not agreed terms, he's over 24, he can talk to clubs.

Id like a direct yes or no answer to the question- would finishing outside the top 6 this season be a failure?

It seems as though Josh Morris is very close to completing his move to Bradford City.

Morris is an odd one because even though he is only 23 he seems to have been around the squad for ages. I'm also not clear as to whether or not he is out of contract this summer or whether Bradford are signing him from us. Surely he will be out of contract by now?

Its another squad place freed up and potentially another hole that needs filling.

Seems to be a decent player for League One but I don't think he is at Championship standard.

I wonder whether the club will give him the same treatment as it did to Tom Cairney. Both have been absolute professionals in their time at the club.
