Must say I've read some fairly bizarre comments on the last few pages, especially the ones about Chris Taylor.

A solid pro that we need to get signed up, particularly now Cairney has gone......We could do a lot worse!

Indeed. Why are the scouts now getting it in the neck? Hasn't Bowyer largely restructured the scouting network after it had been dismantled? Wouldn't the current scouting network have brought in Cairney and Gestede? What has Tommy Johnson done wrong? (apart from scoring against us in the play offs)

The criticism of Taylor is a bit strange. The lad has a good attitude from what I have seen.

I've no complaints if Chris Taylor stays on. He's undoubtedly a popular figure who on his day can make something happen. Given our situation at present at least he would be another offensive option.

However, if we want to kick on and really compete for promotion we need to be doing better. No doubt that the likes of Taylor and Williamson are good pros who give it their all, but to be competing at the top end of this league we really need to be thinking outside of the box and exploiting the overseas market more. Gestede and Songo I believe are the only two overseas players signed in the last couple of years.

As the LET story confirms Rovers can't even sign freebies as they won't settle for 10K per week. The only ones who would still sign must be shocking. Can't see any other way than PL loanees.

I don't buy that at all.

As Forest have already shown with the free signings of Matt Mills and Jamie Ward - decent players are available within the constraints of FFP regulations.

Further to that many clubs in this league not under an embargo, even those like Ipswich and Brentford, have strict budgets in place and cannot offer wages of more than £10k per week in any event.

I'm growing increasingly concerned that the embargo is going to be used as an excuse to sign absolutely nobody this summer.

For a club in our position we should already have players signed up and ready to go, but it looks as though we've missed the boat, not surprising really.

If we sign that useless lump Davies I'll be spending my Saturday's as far away from Ewood as possible. He was useless last time around, he's still useless now and past it.

I imagine there will be a few people having second thoughts about their attendance at Ewood next season if Kevin Davies comes to the club.

Lets face it, we would be the laughing stock of the North West if we gave him a deal. If the club expect me to believe he is the best we can hope to attract these days I'm not having it.

I'm not interested about whether he is a 'good pro'. He's in his late 30's and spent last season as a squad player for PNE in League One (who have just released him).

That's ignoring his disastrous spell for us in the late 90s and the history he has had with us over the last 10 years as a Bolton player.

It would send the wrong message to supporters on so many levels. But these days the club seems to enjoy antagonising supporters and treating them with nothing but disrespect and contempt, so it wouldn't surprise me.

I've been convinced for some time the embargo is being used as an excuse by Venky's, (eg the decision not to challenge it last season).

The club's management are not dynamic or imaginative enough to make the best of the situation we're in.

All we get is a string of excuses and a defeatist attitude.

I'm not sure the scouts are getting it in the neck just yet. It's all hypothetical at this moment in time. But if the two Davies' are genuine targets it's not very impressive or imaginative. I'm happy to reserve judgement until our incoming transfers are done and dusted. But even someone pro Bowyer like me can't help be underwhelmed by those two names.

On a more positive note, I think it's good that Taylor looks like signing new terms. He sometimes looks awkward, but he's a trier and has a knack for scoring the odd goal too. I'm pleased he'll be staying on.

No Abbey you enlighten us Why you think they are.

I HAVENT read anything that they are or seen any info posted on any MB or social media site so please enlighten me and the rest of the MB.

I'll tell you what Chaddy, if they've been supposedly scouting in Germany and Austria over the last month with no football being played they're definitely on the gravy train !!

I would've kept Taylor and played him in Williamson's role. He's younger, quicker, just as industrious as Williamson and actually dares to venture forward. Don't see the point keeping on both of them when we've fallen afoul of FFP and every squad place is crucial.

For every Kevin Davies joining there is a Williamson leaving rumour. Amazed people are getting so agitated over rumours. If they come true - well thats a different matter.

I know, this is making me feel young again.

Where is Nicko to bait us with unknown Portuguese?

I can't believe people are getting their knickers in a twist over a story in the Daily Fail, who we all know have an even worse story success rate than Nicko.

As others have said, I think they've got their Davies's mixed up.

Glad Lenihan has signed a new deal even if it is only 12 months, but I reckon there could be a possible extension in the offering if he gets enough first team action.

On Leon Best, I'm not sure how it works, but, can we not just register him as say a programme seller rather than a player for this season to free up a squad place. I know he'd still be on stupid money, but at least we're not hampering the squad numbers. I genuinely don't know how it works so was just wondering.

I reckon, with Taylor, we have 19 players who count toward the 24. You can't de-select someone unless you get them off your books so we're stuck with Best unless someone takes him on. The 19 includes 3 goalies without Raya so we can definitely create another space there by loaning or selling Kean.

I'm guessing we could leave Best out of the squad altogether but at 33k p.w. it's a stretch to do so, especially in our current position.

Good news about Taylor re-signing, I've always had him down as one of our better players, albeit GB seems loath to use him and doesn't know how to get the best out of him. He should have a free role roaming across the park behind the striker(s) imo.

Seems to be a bit of pattern developing with the strikers GB is linked to (he didn't sign Rhodes). Big lumps. A good one in Gestede's case and two useless ones in Brown and K. Davies (at this stage of his career)

Kamy posted that around 6 to 8 weeks ago that the scouts have been over there in past 3 or so months.

He's not creative enough to find those clever pockets of space for that job. If I were to suggest a position for him it would either be playing wing back because of his engine, or probably in the centre of a 5 man midfield to get through the workload next to a more creative player. GB seems to prefer Williamson and Lowe in that role, hence why Taylor has struggled to get a regular run of games.

I've rarely seen him have a shocker I must admit - a good lad and very hard working with a bit of an eye for getting forward into goal scoring positions.
