Now that C. Taylor has re-signed I'd drive Marshall anywhere he wanted for 3.5m. In fact I'd far rather he'd been sold than Cairney. His performances and attitude stunk the place out in the second half of last season imo..

Being shunted to right back when he'd been one of our best players for weeks probably played a big part in that. I think the right one was sold, though. Probably not a popular opinion, but of the games I've seen and heard, I'd rather have Taylor than Cairney right now. TC will probably go on to be a much better player, but we need consistent, hard working players now if we stand any hope of pushing for promotion any time soon (I know, the manager's a bit pants too, but he's going nowhere it seems).

I'm starting to like the look of a 4231 formation (if we get Furman in):

------------Raya

Henley-Duffy-Killa-Olsson

--------Furman--Lowe

Marsahll----Taylor----Conway

-------------Rhodes

That would be a fluid attacking trio, with Lowe allowed to roam forward if wanted (the goal vs Boro, let's have of that please lad).

Taylor goes central based on his cup games and that home game vs Leeds a while back.

I'd imagine the bid came in. Bowyer, Shaw and Venky's were discussing it, Cairney likely said how he wanted to leave to play in a team where he might be able to achieve promotion and so the decision was made to stop him kicking up a stink. I also found it quite strange how TC and the club were both silent after the move until fans raised their suspicions, then TC and Bowyer come out with statements thanking the opposite party. All seemed a bit forced. Personally, I feel Cairney found himself frustrated playing out wide, lost faith in Bowyer's ability as a manager and felt his chances were better served at Fulham. Reality of our situation today. The players know Bowyer got nowhere near promotion with a 40-goal strike force, freedom in the transfer market and backing from the owners. So what chance does he stand now we're under the embargo? The players ain't all dumb, they'll be able to see Bowyer is a dud (at least tactically, anyway).

Well it's a theory but we could all make up scenarios if we try. Truth is we have no idea what thought process went into it. My take is that the Venkys are trying to cover the on going losses with transfer fees.

I'm pretty sure that's what's happening. And when that tap is off, they will be too.

I'd rather see someone like Tunnicliffe in over Lowe but nevertheless that looks a pretty decent starting eleven. What the strength in depth is like below the starting eleven would be a concern.

Yet they turned down 12m for Rhodes a year ago?

I'm of the opinion they thought we would get promoted if we kept him. Now the parachute payments are gone and cashflow severely depleted I'm pretty sure they've got their eyes on the exit door.

Why even pretend that Hanley won't be an automatic pick?

You want Marshall playing off Rhodes, if anyone. Not Taylor.

The only way it makes sense is that the Venkys want as much of their money back as they can get.

Surely cash-strapped clubs have always had the board/owners calling the shots on who gets sold? I very much doubt that Eddie Quigley wanted to sell Keith Newton, or Saxton(?) wanted to sell Hird and Bailey

Do you think that Venkys will evetually pay off the debt Parson, because its only getting bigger, someone could try and service that debt if they left now, but in 12/24/36 months they don't stand a chance.

I guess I've answered my own question, you must think they will or you're clearly advocating a massive unworkable debt being lumped on to the club in 12/34/36 months time.

I think they will. Most of it is unrecoverable anyway.

Has this been mentioned...Sky reporting Bolton have released Baptiste and he's close to signing for Boro.

Major let down if we don't pick him up on a free.

Boro can offer him more money than us.

Sorry?....Reduce costs??? That is one of the most obscure things iv ever read. Mate, they've literally ploughed Miliions in...and woulda continued to do so but for FFP! They are so frivolous with money it's untrue!!

Is this missing a smiley?

I'd say 2 problems with that

1) Furman has only played at League 1 and below and been average as far as I could find.... Has anyone turned up anything different?

2) Pace. If Rhodes is playing up top, as he should, then he needs pace in the side to force the oppo back line deeper. With that side the other teams defence could hang around on the half way line with no worries at all

I was simply providing context to this ridiculous merry-go-round about 'control' . Do you think the Liverpool and United fans droned on and on about if SAF and Rodgers were in 'control' after the sales of Suarez and Ronaldo?

I appreciate we've had our fingers burnt and that under SK there were several possible people jostling for control including JA and SS but they are gone now...

The owners / financial director paint the picture. This includes the direction which they intend to go down (eg x will get us out of embargo by y) The valuations are set between the manager, owners / representatives and the directors and they move forward from that...

They just made a £3m profit (all in) on a player who had peaked in value and based on back end of last season may have begun to depreciate!! That's just good business!!

Wasn't it all over this board that Shaw/Bowyer were practically shoving Jordan Rhodes out the door to Hull last summer.

Bearing that in mind one has to ask, did anyone receive a % /bonus for the sale of Cairney ?

Transfer. Talk.

Is he worth more than 10k per week? We should be all over this.

Boro have paid Bolton a nominal fee and he's earning substantially more than £10k

No fee. Wages near the 18k mark though.

Loved his time at BRFC did "Bappy" though. We could have offered a basic + Appearance wage to get round FFL. as the 600k per player is based on guaranteed payments.

Wouldn't be much point signing Baps. We already have three first-choice centre-backs and Lenihan in reserve. He'd only end up being shunted to right-back at Henley's expense, anyway.

Middlesbrough can pay Baptiste more than us because they are a massive club. They get really big gates and have loads of money to spend....

Actually their gates are barely any bigger than ours despite having had a good season last year and they lost £20 million last year (conveniently overlooked by the FFP inspectors)

The only thing that puts them in a stronger position than us is some bizarre set of rules that are being enforced inconsistently and arbitrarily. As we've seen with the QPR disgrace, its not how much you lose, but who you are.
