Boro are paying his contract up

So basically they have transferred the Bolton contract to them.

Say Bolton paid him 18k a week with 12mths what he had left, all Middlesborough needed to do was pay 18k a week to "transfer his contract" add maybe a small increase too.

The transfer fee was zero. There are always ways around these things if you are clever enough to "play the game".

On an accountancy balance sheet this looks like the length of contract x wages = value which in turns becomes an expenditure item.

We all know hes worth a fee plus his wages so when "valuing" assets he automatically becomes of "value" if regarded a pound or more.

Probably not explained it to great there...

Middlesbrough can pay Baptiste more than us because they are a massive club. They get really big gates and have loads of money to spend....

Actually their gates are barely any bigger than ours despite having had a good season last year and they lost £20 million last year (conveniently overlooked by the FFP inspectors)

The only thing that puts them in a stronger position than us is some bizarre set of rules that are being enforced inconsistently and arbitrarily. As we've seen with the QPR disgrace, its not how much you lose, but who you are.

It beggars belief that we are just nodding along, tugging our forelock and avoiding eye contact on this one.

Have we no pride? Or a very convenient excuse, I guess. I could well imagine that Venkys will have no clue about how all this works and are relying on advice from those who benefit most from the "golden handcuffs", so to speak.

having a bad hair day gummy

Not at all. Hairs fine thanks. Just tired of pussyfooting around his sensitivities. He's eternally positive when there's nothing to be positive about and when I flip, I flip. I'm tired of people pretending it's normal at ewood. I'm fed up because I no longer want a season ticket. I used to look forward to Saturdays and midweek matches gave me even more pleasure as I love that closed in atmosphere under the lights with freezing air around you and the focus on the pitch. I could never have imagined that I'd find owning a season ticket as a burden I didn't want. I always thought that whatever league we were in I'd love the adrenaline rush of going to a live match. I always thought I'd gladly give the club my money up front even if I had to miss a few games. I never dreamt that all the pleasure of going to matches would be taken from me by people who dont even bother to attend the matches. I never imagined feeling so powerless in the face of crass stupidity/stubborn refusal to listen/ lack of interest from owners in the club they own and I've come to love. And then some see the positives in it all, applaud every potential signing even when they've only just googled a player and on that occasion I just couldn't stand it any longer.

So hair is fine. Football club is not and I don't think I can watch its decline on a regular basis any more, and that makes me very angry.

I actually miss the days when we didn't have all this social media, Internet stuff. Ignorance really is bliss.

I wonder if (genuinely with no agenda) we'd have seen the likes of Brian Clough if he'd had to manage in todays world.

I bet the days when you followed your club because it meant something for your town, city or village to beat another actually filled you with a sense of pride. Money is king nowadays and it stinks really.

Dunno where I'm going with this. Just the musings of a tired bloke after a long day.

I'm starting to like the look of a 4231 formation (if we get Furman in):

------------Raya

Henley-Duffy-Killa-Olsson

--------Furman--Lowe

Marsahll----Taylor----Conway

-------------Rhodes

That would be a fluid attacking trio, with Lowe allowed to roam forward if wanted (the goal vs Boro, let's have of that please lad).

Taylor goes central based on his cup games and that home game vs Leeds a while back.

id say that's as close to being our best team if gestede goes, although id take an out-of-form Evans or a mr average Williamson over the headless chicken Lowe with the bare minimum of footballing ability lowe.

I'd say 2 problems with that

1) Furman has only played at League 1 and below and been average as far as I could find.... Has anyone turned up anything different?

2) Pace. If Rhodes is playing up top, as he should, then he needs pace in the side to force the oppo back line deeper. With that side the other teams defence could hang around on the half way line with no worries at all

and 3) With Rhodes alone up front, Conway has no one to hit with his crosses and loses about 2/3 of his offensive capabilities.

Well, maybe a less chummy media might have exposed Clough as the corrupt, bigoted drunkard he was (in addition to a, for his time, extremely talented manager). Swings and roundabouts.

He'd absolutely bloody love it. Mourinho is his heir apparent and wouldn't be able to touch him.

Yeah I'd agree stu. In his pomp. But I'm not sure he'd have ever reached it. It kills the mavericks. Would gazza have ever got away with driving along an A road with a fan trapped helplessly on top of a camper van with mobile phones and twitter?

Sorry about this. No relevance to the topic at all. I'm rambling. I'll leave it there.

Just on Baptiste it's only worth going all out to sign him imo if you're going to make him first choice centre back.

If you're signing him as a versatile squad member to play primarily at RB, but with the ability to fill in at CB if required I don't think he's good enough there.

GB'S recent comments seemed to indicate he thought Baptist's departure created a potential problem at RB not CB. I'd say he'd be wrong to be looking at it like that but there you are. Judged on that criteria its probably not an absolute priority.

It's a big year for Duffy that's for sure. It's strange because against Swansea he was your archetypal centre half. He smashed Bafatemi Gomes all over the place. Relished winning headers and tackles and even grew in confidence to bring the ball out from the back at times. All in all it was an all action display which you'd say was ideally suited to the division we're in. Yet the next match he was dropped. I think the lad needs to be and is best equipped in the squad, to be that 'run through a brick wall' centre half we need. It's an important position and I believe fans enjoy watching a centre halve physically dominate as much as a Jordan Rhodes who can be as clinical as any top striker. I just hope he's given more of a chance this year. Can't really see how we can't give him a shot all things considered.

Yes I did this on fifa to make it easier before abbey remarks it 😂

.....................raya. ......................

...henley.....Duffy. .....killGallon. ..Ollson...

.............furman.......evans..................

Maguire. ...........Marshall. ........Conway. ...

.....................rhodes......................

Ryan nyambe can fight henley for the right back spot also Lowe can cover both defensive midfield roles and right back

Spurr will fight for the left back spot , Ollson can move onto the wing if needed while Spurr fills in

Brown (I know ) can fill rhodes role if needed. (Probably need a new striker )

We then have Taylor who can play across the midfield for cover, steel and Eastwood for cover, also o'sullivan and lehinhan that can fill in too

A couple more additions to that (that's if maguire and furman sign) we could have a decent squad with adequate cover

People call the midfielders we have, often with good reason but seem happy to plonk a league one guy in there without having seen him. Don't know whether it says more about our midfield or about fans who are just so desperate to see something different in there than the expected Evans/Lowe, Evans/Will or the absolutely dreaded Willowe .......

Struth Mike, are you really salivating at the prospect of Lowe roaming forward, because he has scored one goal ever? He is not a menace to the goal, he never will be, he just hit one belter and that's been it - our centre halves are more prolific.

No fee. Wages near the 18k mark though.

Loved his time at BRFC did "Bappy" though. We could have offered a basic + Appearance wage to get round FFL. as the 600k per player is based on guaranteed payments.

It isn't.

This is shocking. Truly. The LT went asking the Football League why QPR could spend and we can't, even though that was pointless (as ludicrous as it is, it was already obvious they could spend because their fine was still being legally contested and their last season's losses were outside of Football League jurisdiction). Well what they actually need to ask is why Championship clubs like Boro (and I can only assume, Fulham) are allowed to make losses WELL above the allowed amount and not receive any punishment.

To be fair to this relative unknown Furman, he is the South Africa captain (or just has been? Not quite clear) with 25 caps without ever having played at a high league level, so he can't be that terrible. Also, somebody said he has never played above League One. Wrong. He signed for Donny in March 2013. They got promoted that season and he spent the next season with them in the Championship.

I've seen him play live and I like him, I didn't realise it was the same

Lad, he played against Scunthorpe my home town he was immense I know it's just a league 1 side but he stood out he can do more the Lowe evans and Williamson combined

Okay that is encouraging, thanks for sharing.

No, I'm not salivating. He's about as good (imo) as the other options we have overall and given his athleticism he SHOULD be marauding forward to try and drive the opposition back.
