No, I'm not salivating. He's about as good (imo) as the other options we have overall and given his athleticism he SHOULD be marauding forward to try and drive the opposition back.

I doubt they will be driven back. They will just tackle him because he can't dribble, or let him ineffectually shoot/pass. He just isn't a threat for it to be worth having him maraud forward. If he must play (I do wish he wouldn't, at least not as a starter), I would rather employ him harrying the opposition yet failing to tackle them effectively, rather than getting involved in our attacks and helping them break down. At least his movement defensively helps play get stretched. His movement offensively might help create pockets of space by drawing opposition out of shape, but only if they're daft enough to see him as a threat instead of Marshall, Rhodes, Conway...in fact anyone else we might have up there.

To be fair to this relative unknown Furman, he is the South Africa captain (or just has been? Not quite clear) with 25 caps without ever having played at a high league level, so he can't be that terrible. Also, somebody said he has never played above League One. Wrong. He signed for Donny in March 2013. They got promoted that season and he spent the next season with them in the Championship.

So thats Brown, Spurr and possibly Furman... Building a strong league 1 team.

To be fair, our team showed last season it is not the better for lowe's absence..

I was keen for Lowes return so ho could partner Cairney. My thinking was Lowe's workrate could support a more creative central role for Tom. Think a (super) budget version of the Savage/Tugay combo.

With Cairney gone I'm less keen on Lowe. He really is so limited on the passing side of his game, without someone he can give the ball to I think it would be dire. Well we already know it is from Willowe. He needs creative quality alongside him. And before anyone says Evans he has been unbelievably terrible. Can't do anything well - can't run, pass, tackle, head, jump, lead, dribble, shoot, sing, dance, write romantic fiction, play the xylophone. He exists permently on "just below mediocre".

The central midfield options are defensively adequate (just) but from an attacking perspective utterly utterly dismal.

It will be our number one problem. Can this Furman fella pass the ball forward to a member of his own team? I had him down as a defensive midfielder, but to be honest I haven't a Scooby. Can anyone whose seen him comment?

Rovers season before last with Lowe virtually ever present finished just outside play offs. Last season with Lowe missing most of it..? Get the picture..?

13/14 - 70 points

14/15 - 67 points

I've seen more compelling arguments in my time on here.

By that logic get Gestede sold ASAP.

So I don't know if I missed someone else saying this, but Baptiste to Boro isn't just looking likely, it's confirmed apparently. Three year deal.

So that's two of our best players gone.

I expect the league must be a bit surprised that Rovers haven't challenged the legality of FUP (brilliantly apt that, Bruce). As one of the few teams who didn't get to vote on it and one of very few teams impacted we have more cause for trying than most. Yet we sit back and do nothing.

And some folk think that a bit of positive thinking will help!

It's a big year for Duffy that's for sure. It's strange because against Swansea he was your archetypal centre half. He smashed Bafatemi Gomes all over the place. Relished winning headers and tackles and even grew in confidence to bring the ball out from the back at times. All in all it was an all action display which you'd say was ideally suited to the division we're in. Yet the next match he was dropped. I think the lad needs to be and is best equipped in the squad, to be that 'run through a brick wall' centre half we need. It's an important position and I believe fans enjoy watching a centre halve physically dominate as much as a Jordan Rhodes who can be as clinical as any top striker. I just hope he's given more of a chance this year. Can't really see how we can't give him a shot all things considered.

Sums the manager up. He stumbled across his better performers and a system that worked for us when he played his 2nd string team in the cup. Then, back to the league, brought back cagey football and the low energy, underperformers. IMO Bowyer killed a lot of confidence in quite a few players last season. He needs to grow a pair and go for the jugular.

Two of the clubs who voted for the PL breakaway have never even played in it. They were relegated at the end of that season and haven't returned since. Who are they? Luton Town and Notts County. Be careful what you wish for.

Not too concerned about Baptiste, as central defense is a position wher we have decent coverage for and he never came close to setting the world on fire at right back. Our meagre resources are better spent elsewhere.

For example, apparently Daniel Toszer will leave Watford as they've signed Capoue from Tottenham. Defensive midfielder, played over 40 games for Watford last season, scoring and assisting 5.

I think you need to get the picture.

Check your stats, with Lowe in the side we concede more, score less and collect less points per game. It's been done to death on here and I think it was blue bruce that did a full analysis of his and Hanley's value to the side and we were better off without them both.

On a free?

He's on loan from Parma, who's ability to receive payment is highly unclear since they went bankrupt las season and probably has to start over in the Italian fourth tier. It's likely that he'll have suitors who can pay him more than 10k a week though. As long as the embargo is in place, our best hope is probably that Bowyer unearths another Gestede or Marshall among the Furmans, Cokes and Maguires of the footballing world.

Hardly mouthwatering prospects are they? I hoped for a second it was Koke from Atletico.

I found this paragraph poignant;

Bowyer has just three senior centre-midfielders on his books, in the form of Corry Evans, Jason Lowe and Lee Williamson, after Jay Spearing returned to Bolton, David Dunn called time on his Rovers career, and Tom Cairney was sold to Fulham

It's no wonder some people have given it all up. I'm far removed from the day to day of life in East Lancs but it makes a mockery of Venkys proclamations in years gone by.

I've seen him play live and I like him, I didn't realise it was the same

Lad, he played against Scunthorpe my home town he was immense I know it's just a league 1 side but he stood out he can do more the Lowe evans and Williamson combined

Good to hear and it seems he's turned down a contract at his old club to take a chance and try and find someone a division above so fair play. Should come cheap as well if he want's to prove himself at a club like us. Being honest there really isn't much quality to compete against in our midfield so he's half a chance although he'll never oust you know who.

You think they've given up on the likes of Ronaldinho and Beckham?

Add to the fact that Bowyer was playing Lowe at right back and would probably have left him there or wedged him back there repeatedly when he was tinkering. Henley wouldn't have got a look in, he nearly didn't anyway. I'm actually looking forward to starting the season with a proper right back.

Hopefully BTBH can't be that difficult
