[Archived] Transfer Talk Part 2

Please can we discuss transfers or possible transfers.

Not keep talk about The Venkys and wrecking each thread. If you want to discuss the Venkys then use the Venkys thread

Wrecking each thread? A tad excitable.

We all go off topic at times, including you.

I think one thing we can all agree on at this stage is this:

Blackburn Rovers are a weaker side than they were last season.

There can be no disputing that. We have up to this point failed to add anyone to the squad. The only incomings that appear possible/close are two players released by Sheffield Wednesday and a player out of contract at Doncaster.

Without checking I expect we will be the only club in this division to have failed to add a single player to what is already a threadbare and depleted squad short on quality.

At the end of last season I said that we had 5 players who 'could' play in the Premier League in the near future - Rhodes, Gestede, Marshall, Cairney and King. So far we've lost two of those and nobody seriously thinks the other three will all still be here next season.

The plan at the end of last season should have been to retain all the first team regulars (with the exception of Gestede who was always going), phase out the squad and fringe players as we have with Dunn, Varney, Robbo etc. and then use the loan/free transfer market to add 2 or 3 shrewd acquisitions along the lines of what we did with Cairney on loan in 2013 and Baptiste on loan in 2014.

In selling Cairney to Fulham we have made life even more difficult for ourselves and will find it almost impossible to replace him with a player of equal or better ability. Anyone who seriously thinks that Chris Taylor or Dean Furman are better options to have in the squad than Tom Cairney need a reality check.

The club knows full well that the failure to add anyone at all is starting to affect people around the club. That's why they have spent the last week coming out with stories about how Lowey, Duffy and Hanley will be like new signings and how brilliant it is that Williamson and Taylor have penned new deals.

Now we can moan all day long about the embargo. The truth is we've known for months it was coming and we should have been lining up free agents to join the club at the start of July. Forest have managed it with the decent acquisitions of Matt Mills and Jamie Ward despite being under the same constraints as us, yet I'm starting to get the impression that this transfer window has been poorly planned and prepared when we knew 12 months ago what we would be working with this summer.

Running the rule over trialists in pre-season games is all well and good, but we should know by now who we want and we should have them in the building signing their contracts.

Have I woken up in a parallel universe?

Do some supporters really think that Venkys are good for Rovers? Are these great players that the South Yorkshire football powerhouse are releasing? Have we had a look at Mexborough Town players yet?

As the old lancashire folk would say ' you need to go and boil your head.'

I don't consider finishing 9th in the championship last season a total disaster for a club like ours as long as we can keep building on it moving forward..

Things could be much much worse..

Another relative newbie who pops up this time of year with a pro Venky stance, tiresome really. He'll be nothing more than an alias of someone else who hasn't got the minerals to post under his usual name. Nothing wrong with having an alternative viewpoint but the way they go about it screams WUM.

Do one !

if Lowe is played in midfield I think he could be effective this season, especially if encouraged to get forward by the manager

Bowyer? Encourage to get forward? Are we talking about the same man?

Whoah, hope you've got a good supply of tin hats...

Apart from getting relegated from the Championship (which could happen this season) very little could be worse.

We are in debt to a degree which threatens the existence of the club should Venkys stop funding us, our owners have little contact with the club and seemingly no plan, we are under embargo, we are selling our best players and unable to replace, we have no natural leaders from the players to the board, we lack promotion quality in every position on the pitch bar the strikers (who look like they will be sold), and other clubs in the Championship are spending heavily.

From a rational point of view getting promotion will be near impossible and we continue to lose money at a rate of over a million a month.

What would be enough for you to say the situation is unacceptable? Relegation to League One? The club ceasing to exist should Venkys pull out (and with the Cairney situation they seem to have changed tack)? Both are increasingly on the table.

Don't kid yourself. The situation is very very serious and deteriorating. And I'm one of the positive posters on here...

She obviously has no idea Joey. Best ignored.

So what's to discuss. Cue tumbleweed. In case it's escaped your notice we've done transfers out and there are no transfers in. Nobody knows anything about the people in on trial so we can't really discuss them in an informed way or even in an uninformed way because beyond,"Grief, is that really the best we can do?" in all it's various guises, there is nothing to say. Who is to blame for this situation? The rao family and their entourage of agents, tv pundits and other incompetents/scroungers/gravy train riders. Therefore every thread is a place to discuss them because their effect runs throughout every bit of our rotten to the core club. They are the virus that has infected everything, therefore there is no place where they should not be castigated for their actions or lack of them.

So if there is no transfer news then how about don't post anything in the transfer thread? It doesn't have to be a case of 'well there is no news so let's talk about anything!' With limited time to check news and discussions on possible signings it's quite nice to not go through a load of irrelevant posts, even if it just means there are zero replies so I know there is no news/discussions.

Good post. Signs are there has been no forward planning here to get in the replacements for those likely to leave. Southampton do it all the time - which is why when they lost their manager and some of their best players 12 months ago there was a seemless transition and the club did not suffer. The conclusion has to be that any new Rovers signings will be done at the last minute - they will inevitably be inferior because no one else wants them and that the overall result is we will be significantly weaker this coming season than last.

What was the reception when Souness signed Stead (the lesser-scoring of the partnership with Pawel Abbott) from then-League-2 Huddersfield?

Puzzling but it was accepted he was a young back up striker so no big deal really I don't think.

Based on this valuation Rudy should be worth a lot more than 7 million. Many of the board thought a few million was a bargain when he left.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has bid £8m for Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann but have been told they may have to double their offer for the 28-year-old. (Daily Mirror)

No, No, No we do not all agree ... may I suggest with you?

Young striker with a 1 goal in 3 ratio - not a bad punt. And proved correct.

TBH I thought Dann was pants - I bow to the wisdom of Martinez.
