Squad reducing and 1 year contracts are practical for us..

The fact that Will Keane has signed for Preston doesn't particularly concern me. The times I have seen him play for QPR and Sheffield Wednesday I haven't been particularly impressed.

However, whilst Preston are signing young players from Man Utd with experience of playing in the Championship we have signed nobody, and are planning on using our pre-season games to run the rule over free agents from Doncaster and Sheffield Wednesday. That is worrying.

Why are we not in the market for highly rated young players from top Premier League sides?

There can be no more squad reducing.

Even on the assumption there are no more outgoings (unlikely) we need to now add at least 3 players to make up for departures.

One year contracts are sensible in terms of risk and ensuring the club doesn't repeat the Best/Etuhu debacle, but at the same time we need to be able to offer decent contracts.

Decent players will not join for 1 year contracts and if they do will be free to go elsewhere if they perform well. Like we have shown with Rhodes - there is a lot of merit in tying good players down to lengthy contracts - it keeps predators away.

Be ideal if we could get a couple of loans and freebies in early then prepare for the season, obviously with FFP outgoings have had to be tied up to free up spaces etc, but there are now spaces to be filled and in an ideal world we'll have signed a couple of players within the next week or two.(not counting on it) I think Furman would be a solid signing but really hope we don't get Giles Coke!! GB will surely have other options lined up though, press on now and get it done.

Signing decent youngsters on loan from Prem clubs is exactly what we should be doing in the circumstances.

Preston getting Keane & other similar deals being done shows it is possible, in spite of Bowyer's excuse that players won't be allowed out until late in the window.

Young , hungry and with some pace is the recipe for success in this league.

It surprises me that they are going back to Man Utd for loans after what happened last time.

Squad reducing days are over now besides Jake Kean should go. After that we have 17 established players plus O'Sullivan and Lenihan. Maybe Forrester can be included as a possible bench man. Is Rittenberg even considerable? Nyambe hopefully earns the chance to shine atleast against Shrewsbury. Maybe Mahoney makes his way to closer to the first team. Is Green in our books anymore?

For Chaddy, Gallagher probably goes on loan I think. Pelle, Juanmi, Long are all ahead of him. Jay Rodriguez made a very strong comeback yesterday. Yes he is a dingle but you gotta respect the lad.

The problem there is the parent club wants some guarantees that there young players will play each game, this stops our own players in those positions playing and learning - especially if an established championship player can also play there.

Combined with the sometimes attitude of young players from big clubs who think they are above dropping down into the championship to sit on a bench when they can play in a premier leagues reserve team which is clearly more preferable, not to mention some of the wages that some of the higher rated players may be on.

Then comes down to taking hungry free players, or taking possible complacent youth who see it as a step down or want guaranteed game time every week that we can ill afford to give.

So Dann sold for 1.5 Million?? and Nzonzi 3 Million?? are now worth 7 Million each!!!

Good job we negotiated sell on clauses.

Dann despite wages should never have been sold for the amount he did.

Glad Rovers ar eplaying hard ball for Gestede and not accepting a low offer-lesson seemingly learnt???

Have seen Nzonzi many times with Stoke and honestly can't see the hype over him. The fee Sevilla is ready to pay must mean more than million pounds for Rovers. Is that for paying Jake Kean out?

Dann has done very well for Palace. 8 million sounds like they just don't want to sell. Can't see Dann move happening. Palace seems to be on nice flow btw. Cabaye would be a major coup and maybe they can snap Austin also. Newcastle fans did want to get rid of Pardew.

  • Moderation Lead

If Palace snare Cabaye and Charlie Austin they should be very strong next season. Their wingers are dangerous and there are plenty of goals in that team. The only position of concern would be at the back really.

Yep, Cabaye is a cracking player, should be a decent season for them.
