mustard Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 I'll echo this BUT the debt is like the Sword of Damocles hanging over our head. If we were debt free and the V's moved on then maybe we could tread water until the ship rights itself. With any significant debt apportioned to the club which Bank would even touch us with a bargepole? The bank of India?

Jock Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The Dee-dars will buy Marshall. Like Gav said their new owners want to get onside with the fans. Have we been linked with any other South Yorks rejects?
JHRover Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Its very simple really. Don't accept bids. Sheffield Wednesday can't offer anything we can't. It doesn't matter how much money their owner has or wants to spend. They are in the Championship and limited to the same losses as we are (supposedly).

Your right JHR but it's looking obvious now that the Goons want to sell our players.
mustard Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 If Marshall goes, I'll be very worried. Not like I'm not very worried already but I'll be even more frustrated and disillusioned than I am at present. Sell Marshall and Gestede and who do we have of true quality besides Rhodes? Perhaps Conway but I'd be really struggling to see where we will find goals from. This is why we should have axed Bowyer before the start of last season. They say hindsight is a wonderful thing but I was well aware we had a dud halfway into 13/14. Unfortunately, we persevered with him and missed our last real shot at promotion. Now he has the excuse of FFP to hide behind and I have no doubt he's delighted. Bowyer could have the best resources and spending power available to him in this league and he'd still fluff it up. Tactically bereft, a backroom staff (that he appointed) that can't keep the players fit never mind organised and players chopped and changed who look disinterested with him at the helm. Long season ahead.
JHRover Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Your right JHR but it's looking obvious now that the Goons want to sell our players. Even these imbeciles should be able to work out that with the negative reaction to the Cairney sale along with a probable Gestede sale then selling either Rhodes or Marshall to a Championship club would be the final straw for many. I said it last night. There can be no more departures or cutting back. We're down to 16 established outfield players. We can't go any lower than that without serious ramifications. We need to add a minimum of 3 before the season starts otherwise we're asking for trouble. After the Cairney sale I was of the view that they were happy to sell and cash in. The Best pay-off yesterday has swayed me somewhat. Paying him a lump sum to clear off would take a big chunk of the Cairney profit. If they wanted to just cash in then why do that? Besides, people ITK on here reckon Bowyer and Shaw have input into decisions on player departures, so surely if Venkys are listening to the manager they wouldn't sell another of his best players to a rival?
Bucksrover Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 £3M and he is a goner. Hope not that is not the case. He was brilliant last first season half. Also very versatile player. I can live without Cairney as he never really found his position but changing Marshall for a freebie would be too harsh. Nzonzi to Sevilla is a done deal. Does anyone know Rovers slice over the fee? Now Cairney has gone I think it is unlikely Marshall will go. Gestede is a gonner - which should bring in 6m, but whilst Gestede hasn't featured on any promotional pictures like the kit launch, Marshall has been on everything and down at the shop for the kit launch. I would be very surprised if an offer as low as £3 million sees him go. £4 million + and who knows.

chaddyrovers Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Watford's bid for Gestede was 5 mil plus 4 mil in add-ons which was rejected by Rovers.

Good post. My worry is that Bowyer would rather sell the players to a rival team, bring in money for the Venky's and thus help secure his job by highlighting how he's brought players in and sold them for profit. That's all he ever goes on about in the media so I have no doubt that's his job remit. I wish he was as focused on getting Rovers promoted and sorting out his tactics as he was at selling our best players. If Bowyer was remotely confident in his own ability of getting us in the top 2 (or even 6) he would be fighting to keep hold of each and every quality player whilst looking to offload the plodders. Instead we see the likes of Williamson getting a new deal and Cairney getting shipped out. I don't care if Willo was our best defensive mid last year as that says nothing. Statistically he was still very poor and behind the majority of CM's in this league in goals, assists, tackles, you name it. He just looked good as he was lining up next to Corry Evans, who last season was one of the worst players I've seen sporting blue and white halves in recent years.
JHRover Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Venkys are accepting bids JH, We're all over the press wanting 6m for Gestede and then Cairney. Wednesday have just been taken over by a billionaire that makes Abranovic look like a pauper, so they'll be able to offer the player more cash and probably a better chance of success. I'm not sure about a billionaire that makes Abramovich look like a pauper. He's a member of a wealthy family that own a seafood company in Thailand. Rich, but not oil rich. Our owners make their money from chicken products and get lambasted far and wide for the source of their wealth. He made his money in tinned tuna yet everyone is supposed to be really impressed. So far Wednesday have spent a couple of million on a foreigner I've never heard of and that's it. Oh and I'll say it again. He could be the richest man on the planet and it doesn't make any difference - They are limited to £8 million losses a year. So unless they made some huge profit by finishing mid table Championship last year then they cannot spend mega money. That's of course assuming FUP is being enforced fairly and consistently. But I'm a cynic like that. I can't help it when we have spent £200,000 on players and slashed our wage bill in the last 12 months with a squad of 18 whilst Derby and QPR go round spending millions on who they want. Something just doesn't seem right there.

Something just doesn't seem right there. I'm not sure Wednesday will get away with spending too much. They're a bit too far north and just a bit too far away from Manchester or Newcastle city centres for anyone to truly give a sh1t. FFP was designed to protect the big city clubs and spell the end for the Northern town teams so vehemently despised by the FA bigwigs. The bigger the city clubs and attendances, the bigger the £££ for those corrupt f&ckwits.
Gav Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Don't compare anyone you our owners JH! This guy has serious money, enough to buy Marshall for sure and stay well within FFP. So I wouldn't rule it out, in fact I'd encourage the sale if it indicates they're cutting their losses and crawling back under the rock where they came from.
tomphil Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 This one is the acid test. They need to be setting the bar at 5 mill for him if they have any intention of keeping him. He'd be a big loss, a huge reason for us doing well early last season was Marshalls fantastic form, covering over the usual cracks at times. Went off the boil a bit and not helped at all by being shunted to right back. Reasonably quiet 2nd half of the season but he still often put a shift in. Far more to this guys all round game than Cairney and a better prospect I'd say. Only real genuine quality player we have outside the front two. Keep if we are serious unless the bid is ridiculous which I doubt it will be.

Amo Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Doesnt matter what Bowyer wants though. If Venkys want to sell him, he'll go - just as Cairney did. Some fans happy with that as well. Yup, no doubt we'll be hearing how Marshall is only a '1 in 3' player anyway. No biggy.

So I wouldn't rule it out, in fact I'd encourage the sale if it indicates they're cutting their losses and crawling back under the rock where they came from. Hang on a minute. You would encourage the sale of Marshall to a direct rival? Whilst we are under an embargo and have just 16 outfield players in the squad? It doesn't matter how much money he has. The whole point in FFP is to stop wealthy people splashing the cash. Even if they broke even last year (they didn't) that means they are limited to £8 million expenditure on transfers and wages this 12 month period. They've already spent more than £2 million this summer. Could anyone clued up please explain to me how it is possible to splash millions under those restrictions? Of course the reality is that it isn't possible. But for some potentially sinister reason some clubs are allowed to do it (Fulham, Derby, Boro) whilst others (Rovers, Forest) are punished. With our squad of 18 what happens if we can't cut any more? Do we remain under an embargo forever?

It was tongue in cheek JH This could be good news then if they've already done their cash, but I would imagine their owners will find a way around FFP, whilst ours remain confused after relegation some years ago. Sheffield Wednesday have joined Middlesbrough in the pursuit of Daryl Murphy by tabling a £4.25million offer for the Ipswich Town striker. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3154801/Sheffield-Wednesday-make-4-25m-offer-Ipswich-Town-striker-Daryl-Murphy.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490
AllRoverAsia Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 So it's chicken vs sea food. Or maybe more accuately - Chicken Sh-ite v Sea Food

roverandout Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Jh, that foreigner was one of the top scorers Portugal's top flight last season playing for an unfashionable team
West Yorks Rover Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 So it's chicken vs sea food. I remember reading when he bought the club, that he knows nothing about football, but his son(a schoolboy) is very keen on the game. So basically he bought his boy a present - Sheffield Wednesday.
