Gav Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 He was good useless professional whilst he was here, kept his head down and never complained, so I don't think he's disgruntled I think it’s probably true, and the market we're now operating in. If Rhodes and Gestede go he'd probably be seen as a starter along with Brown. God help us if ever that was the case. We'll have a team of Luke Varneys soon, good useless professionals with no ability, only problem is we'll be heading to league 1! Very harsh Al, he could have moaned, not trained and generally done a 'Best', but he kept going although of limited ability he did a job to the best of his ability and I for one can't knock that.

You're right GAV. It's not his fault. The fault was with Bowyer for signing him after an abysmal loan period.
T J Hooker Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Maybe its the sun going to my head but I am starting to feel that if we can keep hold of Rhodes then next season will be better than last(in spight of GB's shoddy matchday management) I think having a smaller squad will improve team spirit and galvanise us more making us harder to beat, I'm also looking forward to seeing some of our own young players get a chance for a change instead of seeing them being kept out of the squad by dross like Varney, songo'o, P taylor... But bowyer now has to decide what formation he wants to play and which players he's going to use(and stick with it) before the season even starts, we desperately need some consistency in the team selection in key areas- Goaly, centre backs, centre mids, upfront
Backroom DE. Posted July 10, 2015 Backroom Posted July 10, 2015 If we keep Rhodes then we may avoid relegation, assuming he stays fit and is able to score 20+ goals again, but I don't hold any higher hopes than that. Let's be realistic - a team shorn of its better players (assuming Gestede leaves, and possibly Marshall as well) without the ability to adequately replace them is only going in one direction. I fear that we've had our chance to get up over the past few seasons and blown it through repeated shoddy decisions at management and board level.
LewisF Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Well we almost made the play-offs in 13/14 and Gestede only scored 12 after arriving iirc, so if those goals could be replicated by possibly Conway or Marshall (assuming we keep hold of them), and Rhodes stays then I think we could be in with a chance.
Backroom DE. Posted July 10, 2015 Backroom Posted July 10, 2015 Did Marshall and Conyway even score 12 goals between them this season? If they're tasked with scoring the goals who is setting them up?
Waggy76 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I just wonder why discussions were even ongoing. He should have been told in no uncertain terms he had no future Makes that whole "selling Cairney" thing seem not such a good idea, huh? You should know better , when did Venkys and the present board do GOOD IDEAS ?
TBTF Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Pay offs in year 1 of relegation might sound right but we'd only just signed most of the useless feckers we've spent the last ouple of seasons paying off. I know we are generous but to sign them then pay them straight off is a bit much even for Rovers Tantric and coco would've loved it though ! It all comes down to the same thing again, if they'd got rid of Kean and Anderson after the damage they'd already done then brought someone in to run the show. Signed some decent investments with the parachutes we wouldn't have this mess. Just like relegation it was all so avoidable. Venkys should pay for the lot out their own pockets and they should seek to get their dosh back from Kean and Anderson & co by suing them for gross neglect/misconduct or something ! For me the whole thing revolves around the appointment of Shebby and him running riot with somebody elses money. He was the one handing out ridiculous contracts. If you think about it, Shaw doesn't know how to spend money, is a complete cheap skate whose mindset is all about how much can be saved on grass seed and cutting back the window cleaner's hours. He just isn't the type to be dishing out silly 4 year contracts on stupid amounts. Not defending Shelfy , just saying its not his style whereas the other total d1ck wanted to be everybodys friend and give it the billy big balls . I will never be persuaded that he was not the main culprit for the hideous position we are now in. But I would also say that the owners put him there so its all their fault and that's why they should stand by their mess. We are a seriously screwed up club and the ones left behind haven't got the faintest clue how to take us forward.

blueboy3333 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Listen dingle go back to the turd moor forums you have nothing positive to say about Rovers, and you don't pay to watch Rovers...a bit like a Dingle really.
onlyonejackwalker Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 you have nothing positive to say about Rovers, and you don't pay to watch Rovers...a bit like a Dingle really. Positivity depends on your starting point. Most have used Venkys arrival. Positives now, from last season? At least we're not mid - table. Generally when skint, it's sensible to cut your outgoings, stop spending and try and raise some cash. All of which we seem to be doing or trying to do. These cuts impact all areas, however petty some savings may seem. We are behaving more sensibly. In recent times Blackpool and Burnley have cobbled teams together to get promoted. Need a good man manager first and foremost if you don't have loads of dosh.
Leonard Venkhater Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 So much negativity. I believe we are going to have an excellent season that will pleasantly surprise you doom mongers.. I hope you are right. I so need it. I know I have felt negatively in past close seasons, only to have a great campaign..e.g when Gordon Lee had taken over in 1974.... I guess this time we are all on the back of a four and a half year dumbing down, coupled with a management structure most of us don't trust. In the past, when times were tough, at least we knew those in charge wanted the best for the club. I can't pretend to believe that now....I plead guilty, as charged, though!

The same scoundrels who sold players, froze players out (to try and get commission on pay offs) and signed their own @#/? after the takeover were throwing the parachute money about. From what I've seen which I believe to be true Singh said Shaw signed the contracts off and he (Shebby) had no involvement in the actual signings although he did admit to having a hand in some of the portugezers.

All the players are miserable and want to leave. I know that because I read it on here. Plus Stuart point out that Marshall, Conway and Rhodes looked unhappy on the new shirt photo shoot.

He will cost too much and we have just signed Ross Wallace and marco matias that can play in his favoured left wing position. How are things looking at Ewood? Seen you have giles coke on trial, good luck with that. He isn't a bad player but he doesn't really do much. He has ability and you won't see a more two footed player, but he just doesn't have that extra bit of "oomph" to become a decent championship player. I would say he was better than Williamson though! Its going to be tight on whether you can afford Chris Maguire, with your FFP restrictions. He was probably on about £10k a week at ours and rejected a similar contract. He is a decent player who will score goals and put a shift in. I'm sorry to see him go.
joey_big_nose Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Being played centre midfield in training - it had crossed my mind that he could switch to a centre midfield.Interesting. He'd get forward for sure and can get goals. Great work rate too when he's interested, so could be 'box to box'. My main reservation is that he is, imo, a "head down" sort of player who focusses on beating his man rather than the larger game so not sure how effective he would be at picking passes and keeping the ball moving. But would like to see it given a go certainly. Maybe being at the point of a diamond would suit him more than playing deeper in a conventional 442.
