Spot on about not having any leaders on the pitch.

If we hadn't have given away so many goals from winning positions we would have been top 6.

It comes down to backbone and leadership when things get tough.

Sadly, Gaz sees Lowey and Hanley as his leaders.

I think Maguire would be Kings replacement and IF Gestede goes Maynard may come. Furman will get deal too. The other trialists unsure.

The cretin Shaw has a certain eye on him at the moment.

Gestede cost £100.000. One of the best buys in rovers history if sold for £7m.

Furman did play in championship season 13/14 with Doncaster. Full South Africa international. Only 27. Hard to find better midfelders and captain material who also can score on a free. Good scouting work there.

Good scouting work finding a guy who leaves a League One club after his contract expires to find a club at a higher level? I imagine the majority of clubs in the Championship got an email from his agent stating he was available. Good scouting work is unearthing a gem in the lower leagues that literally no one has heard of, a young player from a lower tier of foreign football even.

He might turn out to be a good signing, but I'd hesitate in praising the scouting team.

Martinez has said he intends to send Luke Garbutt out on loan this season, think whoever he goes on loan too he'll do well for. But I doubt we'll be going for him as we already have two options for left back and need to be filling places in the squad with positions which are needed

Now there's a lad who does look impressive. One of the few of the England U21s who stood out at the championships.

Unfortunately I reckon he'll end up at a Prem club on loan. Probably a Watford, Bournemouth or Norwich type.

I know we are doing this respect thing but rev saying Taylor is as good as Marshall .. Never replied on the smelly graph wonga question ( if he did I apologise ) ..has rev actually gone billy balloo .?

Ah right, didn't know what you were on about as

a) I know the LT leaves a bit to be desired but don't generally hear it referred to a "tabloid"

b ) "Took the tabloid shilling" Hmmm...................... how much do you actually think that paid? If you guessed £15 p.w. that would be too high - by some margin! Mind you it enabled me to retire comfortably and live on the interest and I'm typing this from my beachfront villa in the Bahamas as we speak.

Don't think I'm the one going "billy balloo".

Bear in mind any bid will be automatically passed onto the owner to decide whether to - accept, reject or negotiate.

So regardless of whether Marshy wants to go if someone decides they want to accept the bid, off they go to negotiate personal terms/medical.

As to whether Brighton is bigger its inner city population is twice that of Blackburn, with an immediate catchment area of nearly half a million people with little/no decent football alternatives within 20-30 minutes. Granted last season was poor for them, but play offs twice in the last three years is arguably not bad going.

Add in the recession proof property climate that exists around Brighton and Hove, a very nice town with links to london in 30 mins and a nicer climate to live in, agreeing terms wouldn't be that hard..

I bet them two Championship Play Off Semi-Finals look cracking in your trophy cabinet!

Do you sit directly behind one of those girders on the Riverside or something?

Either that or I live in a parallel universe and missed the season we apparently had last year where we romped to automatic promotion and the likes of King, Cairney and Marshall were brilliant.

In mine, the main strikers bagged 40 + goals but everyone else was so crap we were out of the play off reckoning by mid February. :(

The league table tells me that we don't win enough games. That £8m has got "the team" nowhere. Good teams win games tomphil, not poor teams who put all their eggs into a basket with holes in it.

Some bad memories on here chaps, that £8m saved us from relegation season before last, without the £8m man we would now be in the lower league.

If the lad was talented then yeah but unfortunately our history of bringing in players from our scouting network has been pretty poor. The likes of Furman etc are so close to home and are established League One/Champ players. He's even an international. Hardly like he's been unearthed from nowhere.

I'd say we've relied on luck as opposed to 'good scouting' and will continue to do so with GB and his backroom team.

The obvious answer to that is just were would we be without his goals if that mythical 8 mill wasn't drip fed to Huddersfield for Rhodes. Plenty times in the last 2 seasons Bowyer has set out to just aim the ball at Rudy up top, sometimes dropping Rhodes so it hasn't been eggs in one basket in terms of play. Personally I'd also say a leaky unsettled defence, a static non tackling non attacking midfield and an at times floundering coach/manager have made a massive contribution to us being bang on average. Rather than one striker - one of the most prolific in the league 4 seasons on the bounce I might add.

Sorry - you can't say that Taylor is better than Marshall because of his consistency - and then say that King was a positive from last season - he was a positive in a few FA Cup matches and that was basically it.

Indeed. But he was like those others Rochina and Hoilett etc in that he got me to the edge of my seat when he received the ball. Plenty of ability although not always effective.

Hurst Green actually :tu:

Does he? I'd understood he lived in a Manchester flat close to one owned by Tom Cairney.

With the money being spent on strengthening the squad in four or five different positions, higher up the league is the answer.

He did do, moved to HG last year.

Some Norwich fans on twitter are saying that Norwich City are close to agreeing a fee with Rovers for Gestede. Fee around 8 million pounds.

Dont know if true.

Would be good news - if only to get it sorted as we all know he will leave at some point prior to the start of the season. Such a shame we can't persuade him to stay though - would prefer to have sold Rhodes personally (both football and financial).

The Rhodes transfer was late on in the window. There were clearly no plans to bring in other players if Rhodes hadn't signed. That's clear as day. Just think where we'd be had he not signed. We'd have been down before the January transfer window came about.

Perhaps it might have been better IF we had spent the £8million elsewhere but hindsight is a wonderful thing, considering who was in charge and the calibre of other players brought in for big money, do you actually think we'd have signed well? I think Rhodes is the only resounding success from that period.

Here are some more IFs for you. We could have stayed in the Prem IF Big Sam hadn't been sacked, or IF Venky's hadn't taken over. We could have got promoted in the last few seasons IF Bowyer was a good manager or IF Venky's had appointed a talented manager instead. All could have made a difference to our circumstances but it's happened and can't be changed so why dwell on it?

It's gone. Rhodes moved to Rovers and he has done a damn good job and certainly spared us from relegation in 12/13 IMO. Just imagine we took away the 20 goals and 5 assists Rhodes got In the season just passed. Could you see Marshall, Conway, Evans, Willo, Brown, Varney and Rudy conjuring up these extra 25 goals that Rhodes contributed. I certainly can't and there's nothing to suggest Bowyer could have had the team playing any better nor been able to pull twenty odd goals out his ar$e.

Personally, I'd be handing Killa the armband without hesitation.

You're spot on about the rest of the squad and how Hughes goes about his business though.

Killa is best we have, no doubt. But any of those players I mentioned from the Hughes era (Savage, Mokoena, Reid, Nelsen, Samba,Friedal, Bellamy,Niall even Tugay) would be way up infront of him in the queue. It's a sad state of affairs that he is viewed as the best leader we have.

Hope this Furman character has something about him.

I dread to think where that £8M would have gone if Kean and Anderson had been allowed to spend it (Rhodes was a Shebby signing IIRC?).

Although according to the narrative of the time the purchase was a one-off on the basis of Best being injured and Shebby convincing the owners that Rhodes was worth the expenditure, so I don't think they would have gotten that money to spend anywhere else anyway.

He'll look like a positive compared with who replaces him!

Personally thought with his pace, and smarter use by a manager, he would have been a bigger asset for us.

These sort of rumors that come from multiple fans on twitter, much like the ones around Cairney, tend to be accurate...

£8m would be too big a sum to turn down.

You sometimes wonder if transfer fees like the one slapped on Sterling are a good thing when it comes to making £8m seem cheap. But then in the greater scheme of things it can really only be a bad thing - a little like house prices - in inflating the market and permanently taking the dreams away from fans of seller clubs.

FUP - widening the gap between the haves and have-nots since 2014.
