Rudy has gone in his head, we need to work out how to get the most money for him soonish.

£8m for Rudy should allow us to reject any bids for Rhodes as well.

Can't see us gettkng that much but it's what we should aim for

Perhaps it might have been better IF we had spent the £8million elsewhere but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Hardly hindsight, but at least you've addressed the main point.

What do you think JW would have said to Singh, if he'd have approached him with a plan to spend the entire transfer budget of £8m, + a five year contract at c£40,000/week (have we paid anything like a decent fee for a player since) with a guarantee of finishing 9th in the championship?

I know what I would have said. I know what everyone else on here would have said, but there's a reluctance to admit it on here.

Edit

Having said that, we'd be playing Russian roulette with our place in the championship if we sold him now. I hope and believe we won't. :)

I can't see us doing worse than in 12/13, so I'd say about 17th at the minimum. If we somehow manage to keep hold of R & R and bring in some good PL loans etc then I think we could challenge for a play off spot. Providing that GB learns from his mistakes

Whats the jist of it Chaddy?

Don't have to sell Marshall - his exact words if the suggested bid was the right figure; "not worth paper written on"

Also basically says what you'd expect- trialists look good, hands are still tied, possible loans in pipeline and JR will be back training next week (or when they are back!)

Do you think he's had enough of working with Gary Bowyer and his staff. Every time I watched him last season he was always being subbed.

With the money being spent on strengthening the squad in four or five different positions, higher up the league is the answer.

True but that was never going to happen. If we'd had real people in charge the parachute money would have been invested in better than Best, Etuhu, Goodwille, Gomez etc etc . There'd have been no need to commit another 8 mill over 4 yrs plus a starting wage of around 20k. So the mythical 8 mill that wasn't lying around waiting to be spent anyway wouldn't have been needed and neither would Rhodes probably.

I'm thankful they did though in the end as chances are coco could easily have signed another Best type who would've contributed jack @#/? and needed paying off around now. Or we could have spunked 2 mill per year for 3 or 4 years signing strikers then binning them off for nowt when it didn't work out. As it is Rhodes didn't get us that promotion but at 2 mill per year for 4 years, wages aside I think he's a bargain. The fact he doesn't need paying millions to @#/? off but instead will at least recoup his outlay is a big plus. Verdict = success !

Rhodes really isn't the problem guys. Of all the money frittered away on wages and pay-offs for the likes of Murphy, Best, Orr, Slew, the money spent on Rhodes has at least had some return on the pitch. And if anything he is likely to hold his transfer values.

I dread to think where we would be if he hadn't arrived. League One, almost certainly. Bust, very possibly.

There is more to this team than JR, I can't fall into the trap of thinking that.

His goals have impacted our fortune in one way or another, but it's impossible to know how it would have gone if we hadn't had him.

Firstly, it generally takes more than one to make the chance, it certainly takes more than one to defend a lead. Secondly, you never know- we could have played a different way with just Rudy or king that gained better results. Can't prove either view.

He certainly is one of the best players of recent times though if not my favourite since Samba.

Loved watching our games with Samba and Jones in central defence. Destroying and then taking it in turns to drive forward. Distant memory now!

From the above article (incoming transfer news shocker from DM):-

Everton face a battle to hold onto striker Chris Long who impressed on loan at Brentford last season. The 20-year-old scored four goals in ten games for the Championship side and is keen to leave Everton to play more regularly.

Blackburn are understood to be among those interested.

They are in need of strikers but are restricted by their transfer embargo and can only sign free transfers or loans.

Sheffield Wednesday are poised to make an offer for Blackburn winger Ben Marshall. Rovers have already told Brighton that Marshall is not for sale after they offered £1.5m.

Ah.. the Everton connection is still going strong ! We need another striker whether we sell one or not. Bowyer did say he wasn't looking unless one went which was a bit poor imo.

Downright illogical really. We've lost King, and 'lost' Varney, and our other remaining senior backup striker has proven incapable of hitting the back of the net. Even if we keep Rudy and Rhodes we still need another forward.

It's strange seeing as he was quick enough to bring in Brown and keep on Varney last summer presumably incase one or both of the others went. We face a real possibility of going into the season with NO senior strikers should those 2 go at the 11th hour and Brown gets a knock or some similar situation.

I dont think Marshall will go tbh.

Gestede will go. We need to sort the Gestede situation out before the end of July.

I think Marshall will go and so will Gestede with no one to replace them unless we get a lucky loanee

The best move for the Rao's would of been get a proper manager in keep what we've got add a few decent loanees and give it a go.. Then my alarm clock went off

This lad might be worth a punt. Surely the connections could swing a loan deal or would they prefer a permanent one, brown envelope style :rover:
