[Archived] Is It Time To Protest Against Venkys?

Recommended Posts

The simplest and most effective protest is to sit down on the steps and refuse to move.

No violence needed just a peaceful sit in.

It would take a lot of stewards/police to remove a few hundred protesters.

I'd expect the press to report on it and a few others to film the event

I've never thought "peaceful" and "protest" fit together in the slightest. Once again what can we do while keeping it (barely) legal? Plus if Venkys aren't present there's nobody to get violent against even if we did advocate it!

I do wish some fans would have looked a bit angrier though. Rather than grinning as if it was enjoyable to be involved in.

I did suggest taking out ads in Pune but think someone said they are too "connected" with the media there (unlike here) and really what would you do as a News/local TV, radio editor? Go to Venkys and ask them to double it of course! Where would something really hit them where it hurts though? The answer is clearly Pune.

A mass boycott (well an even bigger mass boycott) is an obvious option (should have done it at one of the Burnley home games) but will most listen?

They've proven that they do not listen to protests, and those style protests only have one actual effect and that is worse results.

I gave one example of a way, I'm not particularly creative in terms of this thing, but there are other ways;

For instance, get someone "famous" involved in finding the answer, who gets the tv or airtime to stir up discussion. Rockstar, film star, documentary maker etc whatever.

There are plenty of other alternatives, something based in Pune would make sense - crowd fund a new club owner protest group, that covers all clubs and challenges how these businesses can be run.

I'm sure there are some really clever politically minded people who could give you much better ideas, I just can't change my opinion that boycotts, protesting during games and a horrid atmosphere has one outcome with Venkys; poorer results.

Properly organised as a one off at end of season, including a pledge to boycott season tickets unless a proper plan is spelt out to fans?

The problem is, we don't want words. We want actions. Can we really demand that they put more money in by taking our money out?

You say they never listen to protests but they have never had a mass walkout or, better still, a mass boycott.

And stop going on about a "horrid atmosphere" and "poorer results". Think long-term. If we keep sinking deeper in the mire with every season that passes, there will soon be hardly anyone left to care. At that point we will be truly dead and buried

Plenty are saying on here they will not renew next season if Lambert goes. Can't you see where we are heading under Venkys?

This is where the Rovers Trust and BRFC Action Group need to step up again.

Soft but persistent diplomacy with Public Meetings and events. Invite public figures with Rovers sympathies and court media coverage. The message needs to be put out that there is major concern from all supporter groups and the Fan base generally about the total lack of communication with Lambert and the future direction of the Club.

Just because Venkys aren't communicating, doesn't mean we should stop sending a message to them. The message should be that we back Lambert to re build the team but we are unhappy with Venkys Stewardship.

In the previous protests there was just disharmony across the board. Make this protest different and more focussed by demonstrating, harmony at Ewood, supporters and Club together, backing of Lambert and focus all our concerns at Venkys. But rather than just shouting, give Venkys our vision for the future by demanding: Proper Board Structure, local decision making, financial backing for Lambert and better Communication.

As Ive said, Passive Acceptance is not an option any more.

The most important thing is that there WILL be a Club there at the end of this.

We will have to pick up the pieces....3,000,5,000, 8,000 or whatever.

Keep the Faith and where are the Banners for the next home match?

Well they aren't protest banners though it would be typical if Venkys sack Lambert 2 days before.

Excellent post Blue Monday.

Those four objectives are not difficult for anyone to understand and should be a bare minimum for any functioning organisation shouldn't they?:

  • PROPERLY FUNCTIONING BOARD STRUCTURE & MANAGEMENT TEAM
  • DECISIONS MADE LOCALLY
  • GOOD COMMUNICATION
  • FINANCIAL BACKING

...but not with a local mentality.

Evidently they are difficult for Venkys to understand.

Aston Villa fans had another mass protest against absent owner Randy Learner:

Proud History, No future.

Learner you're a coward, show yourself.

We keep hiding behind absent owners won't listen, whilst the club gets deeper in the mire.

I'm not usually pedantic about typos/spelling errors but did they manage to spell his name right?

Well I think most got the message in the past when half my posts included the word "parochial".

But decisions made locally doesn't even necessarily mean 'made by local people'! Paul Lambert is a Glaswegian for example....

That, ultimately, is what we want and what would be best for Rovers.

Who are you having a go at this time Vinjay ?

Dissing local mentality, parochial people,

There are a lot of successful people and businesses in the area with world class credentials.

A large enough pool to gain expertise from I would say.

Everyone's welcome to their opinion, mine is; protesting in the ground at this point will bring only one thing, relegation.

Need to support the playing staff, if people want to protest Venkys, use some ingenuity- an empty stadium or a atmosphere of boos will only hasten the decline IMO.

Reach out to a respected public figure, attempt to gain some level of mediation between owners and fans.

The reactionary running on pitch solves absolutely nothing in my view.

good job your view on sacking bowyer was wrong then

Tennis balls on the pitch from all sides of the ground.

or eggs

I think we could legitimatly use the same slogan, our history and Villa's are not that dissimilar

How have you come to that conclusion ? sounds like a blame the supporters cliche.

Jack Straw tried and didn't get far, I would say he is one shrewd operator.

Rovers fans are too passive for their own good.

Those who had the balls to protest at the beginning are mostly long gone after seeing the light.

A great deal of the fans still left are just happy to have somewhere to go on Saturdays!

Very true , i have been on only twice this season .....

A bloody protest against the Venkys would get me on again though...

PROUD CLUB, ANY FUTURE? seems about right.

Banners,T-shirts and badges...plus use the Club Crest and instead of the Red Rose a red question mark.

Anyone up for it?

Yep, count me in

Surely a mass boycott of an end of season nothing to play for game is the easiest thing to organise. With everyone being brassed off it should get decent backing if it's stressed just why it's being done to our own remaining fans and the local, national media.

It's peaceful, no need for that authorities to panic and it would send out a clear message that this is what they are facing in the future if they don't start running the show correctly and clarifying things with the manager and supporters. It's not a foot stamping strop asking for 20 million it's a show of unity saying we've had enough finally of their cock handed damaging methods.

If people can't understand that and back it then nothing else will ever take off. Debate is pointless unless the debate is actually with them !

It needs printing in a Pune business paper though as well as a banner at Ewood otherwise it might as well be on the moon.

They have never once listened to the fans. They flew out a group of them and lied directly to their faces.

I'm not "stop going on" about anything either, it's a forum and I can express my views. I think protests at this point are ill advised regardless of thee old "Venkys out" mantra reply.

A better idea? Rally round the manager. How about an "I'm behind Paul and the boys campaign"? Surely will make the point that we support good decisions that they make.

I'm with anyone whose saying a protest will be unavoidable if Paul is sacked or walks. Until that happens though, it's not the time for it.
