I see there's quite a lot of attempts in the media to dissasociate the attack from Islam. Random nutjobs don't murder 50 (FIFTY!!) people in one attack, determined ideologically-driven religious psychopaths do that. Its a very unproductive road to go down is to start severing the connection between these events and their root cause.

My recollection is American "nutjobs" have been carrying out massacres for decades. It seems to be only in the last 12 months the link has been with Islam.

A mass shooting is commonly defined as any incident in which 4 or more people are injured.

None the previous 175 mass shootings in 2016 had any links to Islam.

Unfortunately after 7 and half years of sad face and hollow talk at yet another press conference about an American citizen running amok with legally purchased firearms , feeling sorry for him does not measure at all on my sympathy scale. To bring a Rovers analogy into it , he gives a good presser but that is about it.

People understand that a and accept it. So why can people not hold similar sentiments regarding 'not all Muslims support ISIS'?

My initial reaction was to be appalled, of course. But I have to admit I struggled to argue against his point.

Saw a statistic this morning '7 shootings in the UK since the mid 1800s, 7 shootings in the USA since last Monday'.

I accept that the populations are much different in number, but fairly damning I'd say.

This is true, but any God they believe to exist, would definitely disapprove of murder. It's why the whole thing is so laden with hypocrisy it's ridiculous.

People claiming to hate a society they live in, when there are plenty of countries which would give them the lifestyle they crave.

Let me be clear though, anybody that commits murder is beneath contempt. Whatever justification they try and use. I think they have the death penalty in Florida anyhow Abbey, so I think you'll get your wish!

There is no way a response like Howard's would be able to be done in the US.

There's no NRA for a start, there's no second amendment in Aus.

Regarding the 2nd Amendment, it is my understanding that it is not specific to the types of arms, maybe limit it to the power of weapons when it was first written, should be no complaints they can still play at being cowboys but with less powerful weapons,

Maybe a bit of honesty instead of the sad face and hollow words that are wearing a bit thin ,

my initial post was legit, when you look at some of the key points from the tradgedy isis, usa gun laws, gay night club.. this is just teeded up for a harsh(but honest) political joke from somebody like Boyle

Pert, did you know that when Howard announced the gun amnesty he was wearing a bullet proof vest?

The Aus gun lobby is tiny, though they have a couple of members of various parliaments across the country.

All that doesn't alter the fact that even to get a gun amnesty in the US is all but impossible, such is the nature of their commitment to gun ownership.
