onlyonetugay Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 A very timely cartoon from the guardian. So profound ! I've always wondered which publication offers the most heavyweight political viewpoint, the Guardian or the Beano . Answers on a postcard please
Dreyski Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Thinking about it, the caterpillar could also describe the immigrants who refuse to integrate - the wall is not always literal.

That's a fair point Dreski . The Sensible Caterpillar could also be one of those " virtue signallers " who espouse the benefits of mass immigration and the fantastic effects it has on a place like Blackburn ( where us stupid beetles live ) whilst living behind his or her high wall in places like Leyland , Chorley , Ribble Valley etc - don't worry I'm not going to mention York
Husky Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 So profound ! I've always wondered which publication offers the most heavyweight political viewpoint, the Guardian or the Beano . Answers on a postcard please The Guardian and Independent don't half pedal some crap. So much so they even make the Biased Broadcasting Corporation look balanced. Both those propaganda rags have gone way past the 'Daily Fail' stage. Are there any balanced newspapers these days?
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 That's a fair point Dreski . I'd love their writers to come up here and have a boogie outside a mosque in audley or whalley range. The Express writer whose article got linked in "Areas of Blackburn" got asked what the **** he was doing just for taking a picture of a shop. In an ideal world full of rainbows and candy floss, I'd be happy to swallow the Guardian's preachings whole. But that's exactly the world it lives in. It tries very, very hard to ignore the barbaric violence and medieval socities driven by religion in the Middle East and Africa, to ignore that naturally immigrants will bring some of that here, to ignore the vast importance that our western values which have been phenomenally hard won over the last few hundred years must be preserved. It lives in an unconcerned dreamlike bubble, encouraging native Brits to absorb some of these backward cultures and yet still somehow expects progressive and secular values to remain long into the future. Or does it? Personally I'm starting to become so baffled by the line taken by the likes of the Guardian that I question whether they do value societal aspects such as secularism or whether they'll sacrifice anything for the god of political correctness as they perceive it.

Amo Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Britain has passed the 'most extreme surveillance law ever passed in a democracy' The law forces UK internet providers to store browsing histories -- including domains visited -- for one year, in case of police investigations.
jim mk2 Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Appalling. Big Brother is watching you. Passed by May when she was home sec. But now we're out of the EU who needs human rights?

Some of them are even muslims! 😱

Fine by me personally. There's monthly planned terrorist attacks having to be foiled in this country, hundreds of Brits fighting in Syria and thousands more IS supporters living here who IS has called upon to use whatever means possible to carry out attacks on civilians. I've never thought we've even come close to all the 1984 stuff to be honest. A government a quardrillion squillion pounds in debt simply can't afford the resources required to become a total surveillance state even if it wanted to. Police sometimes take hours to turn up even if you've restrained a criminal and are busy sitting on them such is the level they're stretched. I say give them the powers if it helps the battle against extremists, I've a feeling they'll keep governments far too busy long into the future for them to give the slightest concern to say how much porn some random bloke is watching.
yoda Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Yeah I'm fine here in my ivory tower I'm aware of York's demographics, but I'm also aware that there's only 2/3 people on this board who have more day to day contact with people born outside the country they live in. Some of them are even muslims! I have contact everyday and night with people born outside the country. I am not muslim. I am moving back to the Ribble valley in a week or so, so who are the other 1/2 people ? Appalling. Big Brother is watching you. Passed by May when she was home sec. But now we're out of the EU who needs human rights? No problem if you obey the law

This kind of surveillance is useless, SKH. The Gestapo aren't going to uncover terrorists by snooping through ordinary people's search histories. It's just another liberty surrendered to the state for our "protection". No problem if you obey the law Ah, the old "nothing to hide" argument.
Dreyski Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 I have contact everyday and night with people born outside the country. I am not muslim. I am moving back to the Ribble valley in a week or so, so who are the other 1/2 people Wife and restaurant staff I presume? You (funnily enough), Gumboots and possibly Ellison.
Backroom Mike E Posted November 17, 2016 Backroom Posted November 17, 2016 It's a pointless law as Internet search history can already be obtained by police even if said history is 'deleted'. Virtually nothing has changed because of that law.
yoda Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Wife and restaurant staff I presume? You (funnily enough), Gumboots and possibly Ellison. And customers
Backroom Mike E Posted November 17, 2016 Backroom Posted November 17, 2016 Don't think I've ever met yoda, Dreski! Only Chinese I've been to is Ocean Palace, though I'm happy to try yoda's. PM me yoda!
jim mk2 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Make no mistake about it. Theresa May is an extremely dangerous right-wing authoritarian. The UK will soon have state surveillance laws that the East German Stasi could only have dreamt of. And all because of the foaming at the fascists see a non-existent terrorist "problem" when any 5-year old knows you're in far more danger climbing the stairs at home or crossing the road.

Audax Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 The match that pitted white players against black playersn 1979 West Bromwich Albion were looking for an idea for a benefit match for one of their longest serving players, Len Cantello. Somebody, we don't know who, came up with the idea of a match pitting black players against white players. Yes, really: blacks v whites, writes Adrian Chiles. Warning: this story includes very strong language which some readers may find offensive. It sounds somewhere between somewhat odd and downright appalling now, doesn't it? At the time, as I recall, it felt a rather progressive thing to do. After all we - I'm a lifelong West Brom fan - led the way in fielding black players. It seemed rather logical to push the envelope a little further and get a whole team together. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-37924448 In case, anyone missed this whom might be interested.

A sobering lesson for the UK's future of what can happen if an Islamist attains power.
jim mk2 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Yep, extremists are dangerous. Ukip, Trump and his entourage, and the incumbents of Downing St and the current UK govt are prime examples.
Backroom Mike E Posted November 20, 2016 Backroom Posted November 20, 2016 Yep, extremists are dangerous. Ukip, Trump and his entourage, and the incumbents of Downing St and the current UK govt are prime examples. Left wing extremism is what has fostered the rise of the right imo.
