VinjayV4 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 For anyone who might be a little curious about flight paths here's a live tracker! http://www.crondallweather.co.uk/flighttracker.html#.Vwz_DvkrLIV It looks like Lockerbie is still on the flight path could see one near Carlisle. From the direction looks like its already been over Lockerbie. Of course chances of it happening in same place are astronomically rare but still thought paths might have changed slightly. More as a gesture than anything though of course technical faults were not the reason it crashed. Don't know whether its on any paths but be bloody ironic if one crashed on the Emmerdale set wouldn't it! Sure Staines is still on paths as well though it is near London. For those who don't know there was a crash there in 1972. Only found out about the Staines one myself recently but Lockerbie is the worst on record for UK. Though of course the Lockerbie crash wouldn't be counted as an accident (exact location was presumably irrelevant to the terrorists so could easily have been somewhere else nearby) while the Staines crash would.

yoda Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 No jealousy from me, just frustration that 1/5 of my wage goes to the government each month, but it's not the case with others who could and should be paying their way! So Boris Johnson earns 2 million quid and pays 900000 in tax. Makes 1/5 look a bit pale would you not say?

Cool little link that, cheers I think those that do pay very high tax should at least have an option to personally choose exactly where a large chunk of that money goes to.

Boris Johnson isn't part of the problem based on his tax return!! It's those with similar funds that aren't paying that sort of % deliberately....
Gav Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 So Boris Johnson earns 2 million quid and pays 900000 in tax. Makes 1/5 look a bit pale would you not say? Boris paying his tax like everyone should , he's not hiding his cash off shore to avoid tax like Cameron and his family, greedy swines.
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Glad Cameron and similar are getting dragged over the coals for this. I liken it to the expenses scandal. They should hold an enquiry and make all MPs declare their tax returns.

Simon Danczuk has had to pay back £11k in expenses, after everything thats happened, for falsely claiming his kids lived with him full time! If you claim benefits for being a single parent with kids, but actually have a partner living with you, and get caught, in some cases you go to jail. Why are MP's different? I'm not saying he should be jailed, but with no deterrent its now wonder they all got caught on the fiddle!
Al Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Boris paying his tax like everyone should , he's not hiding his cash off shore to avoid tax like Cameron and his family, greedy swines. How many times? Cameron sold his shares 6 years ago and all his profits have been declared for tax but never mind the facts as the socialists have found something, however vacuous to throw dirt at him with don't let it drop. He has done nothing illegal but don't let that put you off. It's too good an opportunity to miss.

Morals Al, its about morals, he's the PM telling the country to pay tax on your money, his dad avoided tax like the plague and dodgy daves benefited from that dirty money. Do as I say not as I do, he should resign.

Paying it back only, acts as a way of saying better luck next time.
jim mk2 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 That's the thing though Al, if they were paying their taxes, this wouldn't even be up for debate would it? I can't see anyone on here begrudging them their wealth, I'm certainly not. If they're deliberately avoiding paying taxes by funneling their money offshore that's wrong, even if it is legal. Quite so. It's the duty of every employee (backed by their trade union of course) to screw his or her bosses for as much money as possible. If United are daft enough to pay Rooney £300,000 plus per week - then good luck to him. My only concern is that Rooney and the like are not paying their top rate taxes and are hiding money from HMRC because they have clever accountants who know all the tax avoiding wheezes. This issue isn't going to go away. The Panama Papers have opened the lid on the murky world of offshore trusts and the way the super rich get away with avoiding taxes. Thankfully, Brussels set the ball rolling today by demanding more regulation and transparency of company accounts in Europe but it will need a global effort to force all the super rich out into the open. Britain could make a start by closing the old colonial tax havens - but that is unlikely given the vested interests in the Conservative party.

Do as I say not as I do, he should resign. It's 6 bloody years ago GAV. Well before the current hue and cry about legal tax avoidance. If you want morals I don't see you jumping on John Whittingdale for his relationship with a sex worker but then he's the Labour Culture Secretary.

If you want morals I don't see you jumping on John Whittingdale for his relationship with a sex worker but then he's the Labour Culture Secretary. But I did jump on Simon Danczuk for recently claiming expenses Al, he should be sacked and put before the courts like we would be. Its not a Tory v Labour thing, its a right v wrong thing Al. If it was Corbyn I'd be saying the same, you can't tell the people to pay tax and avoid it yourself, simple as that.
Biddy Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Isn't Corbyn's tax return now being investigated as he didn't declare any of his pensions? Or did I mis-read that?
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted April 13, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted April 13, 2016 Isn't Corbyn's tax return now being investigated as he didn't declare any of his pensions? Or did I mis-read that? Yeah, I'm sure there some funds he received for university lecturing that weren't accounted for as well. This whole thing is something that I imagine affects all political parties, it's exactly why people shouldn't be assuming it's solely a Conservative problem as I'm fairly confident it won't be!!
Gav Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Isn't Corbyn's tax return now being investigated as he didn't declare any of his pensions? Or did I mis-read that? I've not seen that, but Corbyn does his own taxes as I understand it, doesn't have an accountant like most front benchers, so I'm sure its a genuine mistake unlike postboxes in Panama.

If you want morals I don't see you jumping on John Whittingdale for his relationship with a sex worker but then he's the Labour Culture Secretary. He's a single man who got in to a relationship and later discovered the woman is/was a sex worker. He then ended the relationship. He's a Tory minister. Even Diane Abbot refused to condemn him on R4 Today programme this morning!!!!!
Gav Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 AH! so one rule for one and another rule for the rest. Not sure how you deduced that Biddy? If you look at my reply to Al #2064, it matters not one jot which political persuasion you are, if you're dodging tax and in a prominent position preaching to the country, its morally wrong you should resign. As K-Hod says, I'm sure some Labour MP's will be found out, the same rules apply, but lets watch this unfold.

As K-Hod says, I'm sure some Labour MP's will be found out, lets watch this unfold. I admit I slightly read your reply incorrectly. On my first read, it looked like you were defending Corbyn just because he filled his tax return in himself (which is no defense in itself, he earns £74K from being an MP alone, he can stop being cheap and pay an accountant!) therefore it must have been unintentional. Either way, he also shouldn't throw stones.
yoda Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I've not seen that, but Corbyn does his own taxes as I understand it, doesn't have an accountant like most front benchers, so I'm sure its a genuine mistake unlike postboxes in Panama. It's not one pension though, it is two that he forgot to declare on his tax return. Maybe this is the answer to not paying tax on your pension as discussed earlier in the thread, Just don't declare it. You have to ask the question if someone this organised could run a country ?
Gav Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 You have to ask the question if someone this organised could run a country ? The country would be a much better place to live
