Excuse my ignorance here, but does a forum not come under the general description of 'social media'?

In a broad sense it could be classified as such, but "social media" as a term generally relates to the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and such services. Forums have kind of a unique classification linked back to the old BBS systems used when the internet first existed.

I wish it was possible to police a minimum speed limit. Stuck behind a lass who wouldn't budge above 25mph today :/

That being said, I'm not a speeder. Stick to the limit. If you drive Manchester to London at 80 instead of 70, you save 10mins of a 5hr journey. Not worth it.

Its 200 miles from Manchester to London, so if you are going at 80 and it's taking 5 hours, you're going the wrong way.

(Its c20 mins different)

There's about 200 miles of motorway from Manchester to London. So technically if you drove at 80 with zero traffic it'd take you 2 hours 30 mins, at 70 it'd take 2 hours 50 mins. Not to be pedantic or anything :)

Agree with your point about a minimum speed limit. What really winds me up is people who set their own speed limit. From Whitebirk roundabout going into Rishton there's a stretch that's 50mph but people tend to drive at 40 on it because it goes very slightly uphill on a partially obscured curve. Then the main road in Rishton drops to 30mph and the same people carry on doing 40 because its a straight road you can see all the way down. So they're not careful drivers, they're just plonkers.

You'd be extremely lucky to get zero traffic on the way into London at any time though ;) It took me roughly 4 hours when I last drove there (I won't be doing it again!!).

Wholeheartedly agree about people doing 20 in a 30, it's dangerous!

Oh yeah, but traffic (unless it covers a significant proportion of the 200 miles) won't alter the time you can save by driving faster in the non-traffic areas. The difference between 80mph and 70mph is more like 20 minutes rather than 10 from Manchester to London. Its neither here nor there really though, I agree with the general point Mike was making that its not much time saved for the effort/possible danger in speeding (not to mention higher petrol consumption).

I have had occasion to drive to Newcastle twice in recent weeks and did an experiment (the roads were clear both times). The first trip I really put the foot down and broke the "rules" and the second time I stuck to the 70mph maximum limit. The time difference was a grand total of 14 minutes so no, speeding isn't worth it either in time saved, the use of petrol, the damage to the planet and the risk of prosecution.

so all the crap you gave me a couple of years back that you NEVER break the speed limit was a load of tosh.

It was Romford (Essex) I went to in 2009 the only time I drove to London, there were a lot of roadworks on the edge of Essex which held me up a lot.

Mini-roundabouts? Isn't there 2 options to those.

1) Go straight over the centre with blatant dis-regard for anyone else on the roundabout already

2) Everyone come to a complete stop at all the entrances with no-one wanting to take the initiative to go.

Exactly

not helped by those that wait until the very last split second before indicating

Bloody hell Mike, don't be teaching the kids that. You'd be fifty miles further on after 5 hours...might even find yourself going over the white cliffs by then ☺

Haha, classic.

I get what you meant though. Pointless speeding, you are mainly just getting to the next traffic jam quicker.

I've never mastered 'Pick a que' whether it be at the airport, shopping or traffic.

Don't buy a Hotpoint washing machine, fecking crap made out of monkey metal. Forever breaking down. 3 repairs in the 12 month guarantee. Then the cheeky sods bombard you with emails and calls about extending the warranty.

Buy cheap, buy twice. (wasn't that cheap)

Mathematically, the best thing to do is pick any lane and stay in it.

Indesit, Hotpoint, Canon and Creda are all part of the same make (Merloni) btw.

Hotpoint have had a massive recall on lately due to the fire risk which is ongoing (very unfortunate branding when you think about it)...
