Stuart Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Not really just slap a fine on them like a traffic warden does then it's in the courts handsThat wouldn't work particularly well. I can just imaging the bloodied angry drunkard being confronted in the waiting room by some Alcohol Warden. He'd probably apologise profusely and ask where the nearest ATM was.But maybe a bill in the post for their treatment as a result of a drink-driving-style breathalyser or blood test taken prior to treatment. Perhaps the level is a little higher than the drink driving limit but it'd be much the same lines as travel insurance. If you have an accident abroad and are found to have consumed alcohol then your insurance may be invalid (check the small print!). Perhaps there needs to be a similar check done which invalidates your national health insurance... the caveat might be if your injury or 'illness' could be attributed to, or exacerbated by, alcohol consumption.
Claytons Left Boot Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I'll give you a rant; Got an email earlier today saying the password for a debit card on a current account for my business has been changed. strange as I'm the only one who has the original password. Immediately phone the fraud line, I was passed between departments, put on hold and basically asked daft questions. I refreshed the bank account half way through the call and £16k had been taken using the debit card number. Here's the rub; I'd been put through to the online fraud team when I needed the card fraud team, who, would you believe it, finish at five. I've now got an agonising wait for them to open at 8am to find out what the hell happens now. How did you get on pal?
old darwen blue Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 That's news to me and the rest of the population I suspect. How do you know your contributions will rise ? Answer to your second question is No. And even if you could you'd end up paying much more. I wasn't discussing GPs which is a very different, and increasingly lottery style issue, from hospital doctors. Out of interest how do you know your NHS contribution will increase? Allowing people to opt out of the NHS could be beneficial to the service as I feel sure many would do so but probably without making other provisions. If, and I stress if, a proportion of opt outs proved to be amongst those in the population whose lifestyle choices, alcohol, diet and tobacco, place significant demands on the service this could help to reduce NHS costs, waiting times etc. to the benefit of those who stay with the service. The question I always feel needs answering by those who would chose to opt out is this. When you need the emergency services, A&E or find private health care doesn't cover the condition what would you do? Ambulance drivers requesting proof of cover at the roadside? That would be the inevitable outcome. No medical insurance = no care? Do we really want to live like this? It's what would be required and would leave hundreds of thousands, probably from lower income brackets, unprotected. The NHS works so to opt out would have to mean 100% out and not when convenient to the user. Because my employer told me they would be rising. https://www.unison.org.uk/news/press-release/2015/11/unison-says-national-insurance-increase-will-rob-public-sector-workers/
old darwen blue Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I'd find a new employer. I will in just under four years when I retire.
Paul Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Because my employer told me they would be rising. https://www.unison.org.uk/news/press-release/2015/11/unison-says-national-insurance-increase-will-rob-public-sector-workers/ That's correct except NI contributions fund state benefits and not the NHS. We are all paying the benefits and pensions of those who qualify and, like you, I'm looking forward to the day in three years when I start getting my pension!!!
Backroom Tom Posted February 11, 2016 Backroom Posted February 11, 2016 Isis now have released a video apparently showing the 4 year old blowing up a car with 3 supposed spies in it. He presses a remote detonator and the car blows although as usual camera cuts make it unclear if it's mere propaganda
Baz Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Isis now have released a video apparently showing the 4 year old blowing up a car with 3 supposed spies in it. He presses a remote detonator and the car blows although as usual camera cuts make it unclear if it's mere propaganda At 4 years old though the kid is not in a position to make their own reasoned moral, ethical or religious decisions. Therefore it really doesn't matter, as no praise or criticism can be made. You can however make a very reasonable criticism of the morals and ethics of the person who thought it was a good idea, helped put it in place, or indeed support this video.
T J Hooker Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Insurance excess, wtf. Pet insurance in this instance, I pay Almost £250 a year per dog for lifetime insurance policies but still have to pay £85 excess to make a claim, so if your vet bill comes to less than £85 you cant even claim it on your insurance
Norbert Rassragr Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Don't ever sign up to BT. They only care about new customers, jack the prices up half way through the deal and construct a maze online so getting anything cancelled is convoluted.

They only care about new customers, jack the prices up half way through the deal and construct a maze online so getting anything cancelled is convoluted. I must say, I've been quite fortunate with them since signing up when I moved into my house. I got BT on the strength of BT Sport (and a lack of willingness to pay Sky's silly prices). Whenever there have been issues they've been pretty forthcoming.
Norbert Rassragr Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I'm out of that 12 month contract period and I'm paying £15-20 more than my parents and they're the ones with BT sport on TV. I want to drop the broadband speed and get BT Sport but it looks like BT won't let me. Perhaps they will co-operate when I ring them. Just watch out for the bills K-hod if you've recently signed up.

You will get some sense out of them if you ring them, certainly in my experience. No, I'm not new, I've been with them for 2 and a half years now!

Must say my experience of BT is pretty good as well. The two things I've found though are once you hit your download limit, mine is 40GB, they hammer the price up for the extra usage - 40GB was plenty till my wife discovered Netflix! Secondly if you want to change contracts, I want to move to unlimited, the contract automatically renews for another 12 months. The Post Office seem to have good prices but the reviews are awful!! I have neighbours and a son who say the same about Talk Talk.

I was getting an extra £20 each payment for usage although I originally contracted for unlimited usage and they changed it without consulting me.
T J Hooker Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 long term contract tv? download limits? you guys are so 00s
Norbert Rassragr Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I have Infinity 2, which is the top of the range as I connect my laptop to the TV for sport. If I can lower that, then I can get the sport on the TV. On a related note, does watching catch up TV like 4od on a smart TV use much internet?
old darwen blue Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I think that the general rule is about 100mb per ten minutes pal. So a football match will cost you about 1 gb if you start it just before the game and leave it on at half time. I have bt infinity 2 fibre broadband unlimited mind you
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Any particular reason? I've always quite liked her, especially compared to her erstwhile Radio 1 presenters who after the departure of her and Moyles now pretty much all sound like vacuous attention-seeking fashion drones who effect the gangsta London accent regardless of where they're from and convincingly sound enthusiastic at whatever tweeny garbage pop song they're playing for the 5 millionth time that year. Now if you'd said the undisputed king of this collection of muppets, Nick Grimshaw, I'd have agreed.
yoda Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Sara Cox, what a awful bugeyed Nolob prat. The Aussie Sara Cox ain't bad
donnermeat Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Sara Cox, what a awful bugeyed Nolob prat. Wouldn't kick her out of bed for spilling crumbs though.

Now if you'd said the undisputed king of this collection of muppets, Nick Grimshaw, I'd have agreed. Radio 1 consciously took the decision to drive away older listeners: http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/jun/10/nick-grimshaw-radio-1-bbc-spotify-apple-music All they have succeeding in doing is make it sound like every other commercial radio station. When I was a kid, I listened to Radio 1, as it was always a cut above the likes of Rock FM, kids don't need to be talked down to. Now 6Music has jumped into Radio 1's old position and there is nothing differentiating it from the commercial stations- ergo their listening figures are collapsing.
