NEWS RELEASE FROM

LINDSAY HOYLE MP

Hoyle Demands Urgent Action Over Potential Recruitment

Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle has called for urgent action by Hospital managers to respond to the offer of locum staff able to cover Chorley & South Ribble A&E department.

The offer comes from a recruiting agency who say they have staff available to take up duties tomorrow (Saturday 16th April).

Following this news Mr Hoyle contacted the Chief Executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust urging them to respond immediately to the availability of locum staff

Mr Hoyle said:

“We face a crisis in staffing levels which has led to the announcement that the A&E at Chorley & South Ribble District Hospital will close on Monday. I have now been informed that a recruiting agency has a number of consultants and doctors ready to take up roles at the A&E from tomorrow (Saturday 16th April).

“Given the imminent closure I want the Trust to act now to get the staff in place as a matter of urgency so that Chorley’s A&E service can avoid closure.”

ENDS

I heard they couldn't spend any more on locums under the governments cap on agency workers, hence the initial problem?

I heard they couldn't spend any more on locums under the governments cap on agency workers, hence the initial problem?

I thought it was a recommendation to start using less and not an outright ban.

Lindsey Hoyle has been saying they planned the phase out wrong and they were warned (the trust) that they were going about it in the wrong way.

Also heard a solution is being discussed.

The cap from 1st April is set at 55% above the normal rate of pay for that role, which is high enough to make it overtime pay, and takes into account the extra funds payable to permanent staff (pension etc).

So it looks like after the changes on April 1st the hospital hasn't been able to recruit enough locum doctors, or doctors to cover overtime.

It must come back to the shortage of doctors at present. I know it takes years to train them, but the government needs to look at the future for this, and start offering a bursary to pay doctors through their training, on the basis that its re-payable if they leave the country. There needs to be cross-party support for this.

No, that is bad management as stated by Lindsey Hoyle the Labour MP for Chorley

Just read the story locally, the petitions called:

'Put more funds into Lancashire NHS so Chorley A&E dept can stay open'

Now has 10,000 signatures, but clearly needs money to stay open due to cuts which ever way you slice it.

I give in GAV. You will blame the government for anything that goes wrong when in the instance of Chorley A&E it is clearly down to mis-management and nothing to do with Westminster. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good Tory bashing.

Do you not remember Daves top down NHS reorganisation? The one he himself admitted was a 'mistake'? It was an absolute debacle more like and is also why we once again have patients on trolleys in corridors.

But if you voted Tory you voted for this.

It's probably just be the cynic in me, but I can't shake this feeling that the government are deliberately trying to make the NHS look rubbish to justify selling it off...

I agree K-Hod, Jeremy Hunt is either an arrogant swine or he's going out of his way to destabilise the NHS.

The rule of thumb is Labour look after the NHS and the Tories look after the economy when in government.

Osborne is doing his best to ruin the economy, and now blaming everyone else but himself for its downturn, this despite him attempting to rebuild on a mountain of debt, Which was the Tories biggest criticism of labour!

Hunt has backed himself into a corner with the junior doctors by misleading the house over deaths at weekends and junior doctors working hours, I actually think he didn't understand the information he was given and got it all wrong. Now the junior doctors are suffering for his incompetence.

My GP said exactly that when I saw him a week or two back. Hard not to agree with him.

What you mean is the Tories look after themselves. Name me a piece of progressive legislation in the last two hundred years that they didn't initially oppose.

Like I said GAV. I give in. Searching the far left "Independent" for "reported" quotes (where) in 2014 is scraping the barrel. What is so hard to understand that Chorley had failed to recruit the staff to keep A&E open temporarily. We can all knock the party in power and I will enjoy picking holes in your precious socialists should we be stupid enough to vote them into power. Provided I live long enough.

When did " The Independent " become a " far left " paper ? I must have missed that. There are no " far left " papers out there unless you count the fringe papers like " The Morning Star " or " The Socialist Worker " etc.

Just ask yourself who they advocate you vote for at General Elections to know how they really think. Even " The Guardian " ( extreme left to those on the right ) advised it's readers to vote for Clegg and the Liberal Party in 2010 !

I remember Daves NHS top down reorganisation Al, no real need to quote papers and the Independent isn't far left at all

Described as the biggest reorganisation of the NHS in its history and this is the result, patients on trolleys in corridors again, like the last time the Tories held power, A&E waiting time targets missed, A&E's closing down, and very much an NHS in crisis.

This isn't Labour fault, its firmly at the Tory doorstep and is an absolute disgrace.

Anyone who voted Tory should hang theirs heads in shame at whats going on in the NHS today.

I voted UKIP but Tory every time rather than disastrous Labour. I repeat, the NHS for me has been nothing short of brilliant since my kidneys failed.

I'm glad the NHS has been brilliant for you Al, it's a fantastic institution that's been underfunded for 30yrs+

I recently witnessed patients asleep on trolloies in corridors, A&E refused to take accident and emergency patients because they had no beds and nowhere to treat people, but someone close to me received first class care and I'm grateful for that.

But the NHS is in crisis, and the Tories are failing to address the issues above, it's criminal Al, it really is.

My rant today is at the Venky lovers in ewood today who said venkys are not to blame !! I'm livid and boiling at the moment

The mind boggles Abbey, who's to blame then?

In fact don't tell me, I'd rather not know....

More like anyone who voted Tory should be proud of protecting women in this country from being sexually assaulted in cities across the country last new years and from being forced into a range of depressing measures such as segregate swimming pool times to prevent it from repeatedly happening. A Labour government would have gone down the path of Merkel and the "welcome refugees" brigade and there's be as many here now as there are in Germany. Didn't vote Tory but will be next time!

And did Labour address it when they were in power. I don't think so. The money just isn't available.

I don't blame anybody for legally avoiding tax though. Consecutive governments have been unable to close the tax loopholes. It's unfair to blame the current government however as it has been a problem that successive governments have failed miserably on.

I've used chorley A&E a few times and the amount of time wasters in there was incredible. The last time I was in I actually pulled an IV out and went home as I was getting so frustrated with the nonsense going on; example, one woman was kicking off because an ambulance wouldn't take her and her son home. Another had an headache but was still laughing and chatting, countless 'ill' children running round and playing but their mums though it was better to get them 'checked out' just to be safe. It's funny really, the Mrs is a nurse at chorley and she says if there's a big football match on or some big event it's dead!

I don't know what the answer is. Doctors are getting very good money from their private work, we have an incredibly expensive pfi deal to fund and the numbers being treated is rising steeply. I wouldn't like to run the NHS that's for sure.
