[Archived] Rant (4?)

Recommended Posts

Overuse of certain words. The one that bugs me is 'rhetoric' being massively used and often mis-used in news reports. It seems to make an appearance in any segment/discussion when someone wants to appear clever. Its use snowballed after Ed Milliband over-used it a couple of years back. I try not to watch the news but every time I do, this word now pops up.

The bloody word was used 4 times in the first 3mins of the news.

This isn't so much of a rant, but more of an observation/reflection.

I was in Cardiff on Sunday, arrived around 6pm and had a wonder up the high street towards the castle and then down by the Millennium stadium and I was shocked by the numbers of homeless people that have pitched up in the city. I visit, London, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham on a regular basis and non of these places in my experiences comes close to what i saw in Cardiff, what is happening in Wales to see so many homeless people living on the closed main shopping street in the city?

I count myself as pretty street wise, I can spot a blagger a mile away, and I can say with absolute confidence that the vast majority of these people are homeless, living in doorways of disused shops, bin bags and blankets piled around them, the odd ones asleep on the pavement, probably having taken something to get them through the evening, and all this whilst people are out drinking and music booming from the pubs and clubs in the area.

I'm not going to turn this into a political topic, but why in 2017 are we seeing probably 100 or more people in that small area that I walked asleep in doorways? asleep behind pubs bins? and sprawled across the pavements in old sleeping bags? These people weren't begging, weren't asking anyone for anything, these people were sleeping mainly, trying to get by, trying to live another day on the streets safely.

Absolutely disgusting, I can't stop thinking about it, so so sad.

You might be surprised re Manchester, Gav. I've not been for a few months, but everyone I speak to regularly that has been recently tells me that they've also been shocked by how many homeless people there are in that particular city at the moment.....

Glasgow is pretty similar Gav. As you know, I have a particular professional interest in this issue and it is interesting to hear/see of two of the countries with devolved governments suffering similar problems (housing is a devolved matter but many linked services/benefits etc are not)

Fat scruffy people in McDonalds / Greg's with their sweaty fat kids. I would put something in the doorway of these places so if ur too fat to fit through you can't enter.

A better response would be to impose taxation on their products to reflect the damage their products do to society.

Good idea Paul in theory if we play the Jamie Oliver card where do we stop? Kebab houses, curry houses, is a Friday night meat methi treat going to cost me £20. Weighing scales at the counter makes more sense. I think most people can eat what they want if they offset it with exercise sadly people don't hence obesity. As a general rule.

A healthy diet is far more important than exercise. If your body isn't properly fuelled for exercise you won't get very far. That's why fat slobs rarely last at the gym. No point trying to exercise if you're shoving five pies and a McFlurry down your gob straight afterwards.

Does taxation not just punish the employees of such companies, some of whom get sacked so that profits aren't affected?

I think the door thing (while comedic) is a perfectly practical solution!

I think obese people need to be referred to specialist places, just as anorexic people are. They need to be mentally trained to stop eating so much. Tbf, I could do with it myself

It seems the majority of people have no idea about calories.

To burn off the calories in a standard sized tiny bags of crisps 30-35g (you know the ones that seem to have about 6 crisps in them) you have to basically run for more than 2.5km.

Disagree there, of course every individual is different so theres no definate right or wrong. You can eat s**t exercise & be fine, the older you get you won't get away with that though.

For sure. A lot of people seem to think that as long as you exercise it balances out having ten pints on a Friday or having a few kebabs a month. Well, no, not really. Even if you take the calories out of it, unhealthy food/drink is damaging parts of your body that exercise can't cure and making you far less efficient overall.

Obviously it goes without saying that we have to treat ourselves sometimes, otherwise life would just be boring, but the problem is a lot of people have come to see unhealthy junk food as the norm and proper, nutritional food as the 'special' meal.

For a few people, maybe, but for the majority of people you are 100% wrong. You are what you eat. Sorry.

The only way I keep like I am is by eating really well during the week and treating myself at the weekend. Even then, I don't go mad. I exercise daily, even if it's the gym or an hour's walk, it all counts.

Drinking tons of water honestly can't be stressed enough either.

I think a lot of people's small ailments (headaches, especially) could be cured just be hydrating themselves more often. Scandalous really that we live somewhere with such free access to clean (ish) water and so many people don't drink enough of it!

When I shifted some timber at the early part of this year (split up with ex last August, trainwrecked for a few months, then realised I'd have to start being more palatable to women), I went to a personal trainer and he asked how much water I was drinking. When I told him two litres and thought it was loads, he told me to up that to three! I rarely stop drinking it though tbh. Got a water fountain at work and a bottle, so I've no excuse really! The only issue is just how much I need to use the little boy's room!

Who the hell does that? surely with five pies its a diet coke to offset it , plus you don't have to do the extra drive to McDonalds to get the mcflurry

I've just read that Sarah Champion the MP for Rotherham has resigned her position as shadow secretary of state over comments relating to grooming and exploitation of vulnerable white girls.

"Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls" - Absolutely we do, no question about it.

Its about @#/? time we faced up to the facts and stopped the politically correct bullsh1t thats ensured many more girls have suffered at the hands of these animals than should have.

Its not about the color of your skin, its about rape and pedophilia, it just so happens the authorities have seen fit to use color as an excuse for doing nowt.

Agreed, anyone who hasnt done their job here, or who has meekly accepted being told to stop looking into an issue because of race desrves the sack, no matter what position.

We seem to have a lot of organised paedophile rings in the country, of all races, there's plenty of resource available to deal with these issues, the last thing we need is people using excuses for not following their job. In fact in their position -how could you sleep knowing what was happening, but staying quiet?

To be fair I think the main issue was with the description of it as "The Muslim Problem" which according to the news last night had echo's of Nazism and got a whole bunch of MPs het up. That aside, I wholeheartedly agree with Gav, too many vulnerable girls have been exploited and abused while the authorities hide behind racial and PC excuses, doing nothing about it. There's a culture in those communities that accepts this abuse and it needs to be dealt with.
