[Archived] Transfer Talk Part 3

im sure Rudy told management how great Koita is, and told Koita this is the place for him.. All seems a bit odd, with Rudy angling away for a move. Perfect timing i guess for Rudy, because lets face it, he wanted out, so paint a nice rosy picture about his possible replacement.

I'll be quite happy if there's a queue of Europen talent wanting to use Rovers as a leg up on the recommendation of successful compatriots who have gone before.

To be honest I'm surprised anyone pays any attention to what Wheelock has to say.

Of course he's going to peddle that it was a £6 million sale rather than a deal rising to £8 million. That would sit better with the Lancashire Telegraph journos and would help stir up some frustration that we have perhaps let him go 'on the cheap'.

Wheelock doesn't have contacts. The information he gets is what Bowyer and the club want him to get. That's why the Telegraph are always late when it comes to potential new signings because they rely on rumour and speculation on here and Twitter before then asking Bowyer if there is any truth to it. Bowyer likes to play his cards close to his chest in terms of transfers so keeps information to a minimum.

we do have scouts you know... players recommending other players is cause for concern, especially if they turn out not great. Bowyer and the scouts need to go out and find players themselves, trial them if need be, and make a call. If things dont go well, Bowyer can just turn around and say, it wasnt him, but a recommendation by a player and we took their advice.

Sell sell sell sell sell sell sell!

Anything over a million for captain calamity would be brilliant for us. He may be 24 and and international but he's still a bad player for me.

Now Baptiste has gone I see him and Killgallon as our best two defenders, with Handley's average / poor distribution skills being roughly twice as good as Killgallon's. If these rumours are true it seems Sean Dyche agrees with me too.

The likely truth with Robinson is that if had he been played on a regular basis then he would have activated either an extension to his contract or bonus payments on top of his huge salary. Neither of which were affordable for this football club.

The treatment he got here of being frozen out of the first team squad was similar to the treatment he got at Spurs. He was still paid handsomely and got more money from sitting out the last 18 months of his contract than I will earn in my life.

If Robinson had been that bothered about his situation at the club then he could have ripped up his contract and walked into a club where he would play. He didn't. So I can only assume he was content to see out his contract without playing. Fair enough, after all he was entitled to that money, but he wasn't being kept here against his will. He could have walked at any point if he wanted to play somewhere else.

Did the club treat him disrespectfully? Perhaps. But unfortunately the club's situation financially meant that it was simply impossible to continue to pay a goalkeeper such a big salary, and steps had to be taken to ensure that he didn't get any more than the minimum, and if that meant upsetting him then so be it.

If he had been played last season and had activated a 12 month extension at £30k a week there would have been uproar.

Correct. Business is business and no room for sentimentality in this game. Players and their agents screw weak clubs and in turn clubs screw players who are in a position of weakness.

Just as an aside and given his extremely serious and unusual health issue can we assume that we couldn't get a specialist to actually write him off in a similar vein to Fabrice Muamba so that we could at least have collected some insurance payment?

The lad Gestede spoke to was apparently scouted Tommy Johnson or one his contacts. Gestede didn't recommend the player to the club, it was the other way around by my understanding.

We have! Tommy Johnson ex Derby County striker is currently our head scout and has a network of contacts who I presume are out looking at players!!!!

Thanks Mercerman, pretty much black and white that one then.

There's no way Hanley is going anywhere and certainly not to that lot. We will soon enough be hearing from Bowyer that the likes of Captain Marvelous and Lowey are the bedrocks of his team.

If Burnley come in with £6m+ for Hanley (or Handley according to Drog) then I'd be inclined to sell. If it allows us to keep Rhodes then it has to be considered. I'm sure we could get a replacement for Grant easier than we could get a replacement for Rhodes.

It's TRUE handley may come good and we will make money worth it's weight in GOLD

Sorry Ricky but im sure theres no way Burnley will part with 6M for Hanley or anyone for that matter.

Just look at the Lansbury fiasco ..Forest want £4M and Burnley offering allegedly £1.5M...and on and on it goes

Burnley never disclose fees for players..i wonder why ..

They have gone out and scouted Koita and Petshi that is why they are at the club. Tommy Johnson has a team of scouts working for him. That's how it works. If you think that we are sending players out to find players you are living in cloud cuckoo land! When they arrived at Brockhall, they will no doubt have had lengthy conversations with another French speaker - Gestede. It shows just how paranoid this forum has become when an innocent remark in the newspaper is now twisted into yet another negative. I must admit that the forums are becoming an endless source of fun these days. The script writers for the X-Files could get enough conspiracy nonsense on here for another season or two of that show.

Isn't that exactly what happened with both Petshi and Koita?

Go to ewood on Saturday you might enjoy it.

Most of us did last season and it was garbage.

Coming on here and lecturing people about how we should just accept our plight and get behind the team just comes accross patronising. Everyone here when they get to their seat will get behind the team, they don't need you telling them to so wind it in. Just because people like me aren't happy with the current regime doesn't mean they don't support the team... This assumption really rubs people up the wrong way.
