Why the hell can't they manage to find a striker to trial who can actually notch a few for crying out loud. Can't we look around the lower leagues here and find a young hungry one ? They managed to do that when they lumbered us with Brown and now it seems they are after a foreign version of him.

Do we really have to look at every cheap injury prone unwanted piece of crap in Europe ? Agent friendly actions yet again......

. You do realise we are in a transfer embargo, good young hungry players from lower leagues cost money, even it's only 50k,we have to trial anyone who's free and hope we can find a bargain, some players sometimes need a change of club to kick start their careers,eg Gestede,Cardiff fans and the manager didn't think much of him, came here, top player,Conway another example, but now we can't even pay nominal fees,or even loan fees, till we get out of the embargo,it's going to be very difficult...

Err... loans ? Hungry young striker wanting to impress and make a step up, a club like Rovers still a nice draw. Don't tell me there is non about. We just are NOT looking in those areas now for some reason.

Also (not a dig at you) but will people stop throwing in the Gestede scenario, it was a one off. Things like that come off literally once every blue moon just like a Duff or a Jones only comes through the ranks and is worth millions. Rudy always had the qualities to make it but for whatever reason he was at the wrong club at the wrong time in Cardiff. Not saying it would have worked out as well as it did here but he'd have got his chance somewhere else eventually and done ok.

We could trial a hundred 6ft 5 strikers per week but never pull off another Rudy scenario.

Denni Avdic is a really good tall striker and miles better than Brown. Can we get him?

He was very promising about 5 years ago, great physicality and heading prowess combined with some real silky skills with the ball at his feet as well. He's been injured a lot since then though, and only really had one good season in the notoriously dodgy Dutch League. A gamble for sure, but gambles are what we traffic in these days.

Just to let you know Westers, I'm sat down to watch moonraker thanks to your excellent TV guide information. Many thanks me old fruit.

That's quite possibly the worst Bond film, which is saying a lot!

. Nice of you not having a dig at me,but you've a short memory, besides Gestede, there is Conway,Cairney, Killgallon all very cheap sell for a lot more,I'm same as you and everyone else, very frustrating, but till we get out of FFP very difficult.

Loans are the way forward. I watched Swindon last year and was very impressed with some of their young kids on loan from Southampton and other clubs. Miles better than our players. If Swindon in League 1 can get decent loans from Southampton, we should be able to.

A new C/B must be on the cards surely ... in theory we've lost 3 from the squad since last year in O'Connell, Songo'o and Baptiste , i know Lenighan has come into the squad but i don't know if he's a midfielder who can play C/B or a C/B who can play midfield ??

Problem is that if Southampton were to ask for a loan fee. If they do we are not allowed.

I may be wrong but did we not loan Tom Cairney from Hull after giving them the run-around with Rhodes?

No, we loaned Tom Cairney at the end of the 2013 summer window, the run-around with Rhodes came after that in the summer of 2014.

Unless something major has occurred I don't think past dealings would affect future possible deals. Clubs cannot afford to bear grudges. If Middlesbrough are looking to offload a player and free up a wage and squad place then they can't afford to turn people away because of what has gone on in a separate deal months earlier.

According to the LT, we only have room for 2 more players in the squad. If we are looking at a striker, surely the last squad place needs to be a defender.

Players will depart shortly so more space for new players.

I still expect Doneil Henry to come.

Rovers looking at strikers may be due to persistant interest in Jordan Rhodes.

A bold statement but the second part is a given surely? Tall foreigners have come and gone from England having done poorly, Maierhofer, Kozak, Zigic etc... With his goal record I'd approach cautiously. If there's a chance of getting some players like Wilson from United then I'd rather keep places spare for such signings.

Well could I swap those two then....of course James Wilson is a safer bet.

I was quite obviously referring to the rare scenario of getting in someone like Rudy for peanuts and selling him again a short while later for millions. Conway, cracking little player and a good signing but he's pretty standard for this league, no real sell on at his age, same with Killa.

As for memory I have a pretty long and decent one thanks, it stretches back 34 years regarding Rovers since I started going as a kid. FFP isn't to blame for everything you know !!!

Rovers should be looking to bring in a striker immediately regardless of what happens with Rhodes. Otherwise we are going to be very limited in that department and will soon be back to playing Chris Brown every week.

In relation to Rhodes I keep hearing about him being half way towards the exit door. But is that really the case? The only evidence we have of serious interest has been from mighty Middlesbrough. Now that appears to be dead in the water due to Venkys stance and Middlesbrough are now close to signing Nugent.

Who else is coming in for him? If rumours are to be believed then Sunderland have been looking, but their plan supposedly involved £8 million + some players coming this way, which has now been rubbished by Bowyer who says that can't happen under the rules. Also this morning it sounds as though Sunderland are close to signing Borini and Januzaj.

If any other Premier League clubs come in then fair enough, I'd be pleased for Jordan to see him take the step up, but I just can't see it happening at this stage. Obviously things change very quickly and Bowyer needs some irons in the fire as a contingency if he does leave late on, but the number of Premier League clubs willing/able to buy him for £12 million will be very low.

I think we saw on Saturday with his performance that if he does stay at Rovers we will get a committed and dedicated Jordan Rhodes and not a sulker.

If we've 2 places left then one needs to go on a striker to work with Rhodes and Koita. The other probably needs to be held back for a loan signing in the event of injuries.

I would be very surprised if we didn't see at least 1 midfielder leave. It just seems utterly pointless to me to have so many midfielders when we are under squad restrictions. If we didn't have a limit then there would be no harm in having such numbers as competition but we don't have that luxury. It makes the signings of Williamson and Petschi very odd. By process of elimination the most likely to leave would be Cory Evans, but there has been very little by way of speculation linking him away, and I feel we'd be better offloading Williamson before Evans.

2 squad places at the moment it is but I expect us to move on a couple of players as well.

Providing we keep hold of Rhodes as our main striker, based on who we have been linked with I would like to see the following deals done. I think we could consider it good business for the summer...on the face of it anyway.

Ins:

Nick Powell on loan

Doneil Henry on loan

A right back, but i'm not sure who is available.

Outs:

Evans

Williamson

Brown

If we were to lose Rhodes then obviously that's a game changer.

If we're playing 4-5-1 why not get some players in that fit the system. As in someone who can play in the hole? If that's what we're playing we'd want a) someone who's comfortable playing there and B) cover for that position. As it is we've neither as only Marshall can play there and he's not made an amazing start to that position. Let's try getting in what we need rather than players who look useful.

Defensively we also look thin on the ground. But then I guess when sell on profit goes over team needs you're going to have an unbalanced squad.

Oh hindsight on - and appreciate I get a lot of future calls wrong - but the signing of Brown and Varney rather than one better quality striker, as many people suggested is looking doubly costly now.

Probably the winger from Boro that unleaded mentioned yesterday

Carayol (sp)? Ive only seen him a few times admittedly, but he was a real danger each time. I really rate him. I can't see him being too willing to have a trial to be honest. Also, if what I have seen of him is a true reflection of his ability then I doubt we'd even have a sniff of signing him anyway. Sides with better promotion prospects would be nearer the front of the queue than us I'm afraid.
