[Archived] Transfer Talk Part 3

Recommended Posts

Not necessarily leave - wanted opportunity to talk - though we know how that would end up.

TBH - this really doesn't sound like Jordan to come out (can't remember him doing similar when he left Huddersfield) - obviously the ongoing speculation has unsettled him. Plus - and the comments infer it - he obviously doesn't view us as having a realistic shot at promotion.

I'm not sure how much credence to put on this remarkable statement, what possible benefit could there be to selling one of our only 2 effective players last season?

Let alone both.

However, if there is the slightest semblance of truth that Bowyer/Shaw/ anyone else are trying to sell Rhodes and/ or Gestede against the owners wishes, then the solution is an extremely simple one, sack them on the spot. If you were having any doubts (justifiably) about their performance last season then they've done the job for you and removed any doubts whatsoever.

I honestly think Shaw and Bowyer would be happy with shipping out Rhodes/Rudy, Revidge. Sell Rhodes and/or Gestede and Bowyer/Shaw have 'done their job' in bringing money into the club and thus improved the profit/loss accounts. They then also have a convenient excuse for poor league performance due to embargo. Last season, with a 40 goal strike force, Bowyer only had the excuse of FFP from January onwards (but crikey didn't he milk it) and I think he might have been under a touch of pressure after not achieving play-offs. Take away one or both of the strikers and I think it actually helps keep him secure in his role due to our restrictions. He sells players for profit whilst Venky's are convinced promotion is not possible whilst under the embargo. Bowyer and Shaw have free reign to under-perform in their duties.

A wise man (or wise owners) would see that a change in boardroom personnel might stem the haemorrhaging of millions and a change in manager might see us achieve the golden ticket that is promotion (the only way out this mess), but we gots the Venky's :(

He did do the same at Hudds - or so his chairman said at the time.

I really don't like the inference that we should accept a bid for him just because it is higher than what we paid. We're entitled to a decent profit after taking such a large risk. Even Huddersfield are entitled to a bit of that profit, and they've already profited on him to the tune of nearly 8 million...

Jordan wants out because he knows the club is going nowhere under Venky's and Bowyer. A talented and at least remotely inspiring manager could rally the troops and tie down our best players but they all want out. Why? Because just like 95% of us, they know we've got a dud of a manager, a shambles of a backroom staff and incompetence at boardroom level and beyond.

Ah well. He's been the model pro until now but it's the way of it these days. I'd have understood more if it was a Premier League club but for him to be mumping about a move to the Smog Monsters is very dispiriting.

When diehards have lost hope in the club, what do we expect from footballing mercenaries?

When we rejected the Hull bid last season, I bet Bowyer & co. gave him assurances that we were going to 'give it a right good go' at promotion, then proceeded to get nose bleeds everytime we came within spitting distance of the top six.

And what about when Shearer went? Or Santa Cruz? Or Sutton? Or Samba? Or Neill? Or McCarthy? Was that down to dud managers?

For a chap who was explicitly happy at Rovers and said he'd only leave when we didn't want him any more, I think it says a lot about the club, the direction we are heading and I think it means there's been a change of circumstance behind the scenes.

Perhaps a fall out with Bowyer, or hell, perhaps even advice from Bowyer/Shaw/agent to go public and get the bid up. Sounds like he's no longer wanted by Rovers and that Bowyer and Shaw want to cash in.

I can't blame him for wanting a move. We're going nowhere under Bowyer and this further highlights how he should have been axed well over a year ago to give a real manager a shot at taking us up.

I know a lot of people shout doom and gloom on here, but remove Rhodes and Gestede and continue with Bowyer = a very good chance of relegation.

I don't know how anyone can deny that. Sums up the club and why I won't blame any player for wanting out. We are a shambles.

Completely different scenarios. These players were moving to bigger clubs in every single case. Champions League contenders (with the exception of Shearer who went to his boyhood club) and Neill and McCarthy who wanted money.

Rhodes wants to move to one of our Championship rivals who should be aiming for the same as us. However, it appears we don't have aspirations of promotion and that's clear enough to Cairney, Rhodes, Gestede and no doubt soon to be 'etc'.

It's hard for you to see what a dud GB is all the way from Oz, Chris, despite us finishing 9th with the best/second best strike force in the league. For those who watch the dull football and playground tactics employed every week, it's pretty clear to the majority. I think you'll realise what a dud we have in charge next season, that's for sure.

Unacceptable for any player to make those comments in the media. Ironic that he is talking about the 'next step' in his career - to Middlesbrough!

Perhaps he should have thought twice about signing that 2 year contract extension last summer. He knew then that we had to get promoted last season otherwise the embargo would be coming and things would get really difficult. So I don't really have any sympathy. He knew what he was committing to.

However, I think there are other factors to consider here. I am convinced that there are dark forces at work at Ewood Park. It is clear that Venkys don't want to sell him and have no intention of doing so unless their valuation is met, and I don't believe for one second that they are trying to sell him.

Rhodes is probably getting increasingly fed up of the club i.e. Shaw and others, basically advertising him for sale. Discussing a possible transfer with other clubs, mucking him around like they did with Hull last year.

I'm reluctant to blame Bowyer here but his comments over the last 12 months have basically represented a 'come and get him' broadcast for interested clubs to come in with bids. A club and manager that 'meant business' would continue to send out the message that he isn't for sale.

Now these comments are there from Rhodes it will make the job much easier for those trying to get rid of him. They can say to the supporters and Venkys that he demanded a move and there was nothing they could do as he wanted to go and we couldn't keep an unhappy player. Job done.

If they let both Rhodes and Gestede go things are going to get very messy. Sob stories about FUP and reducing losses won't be acceptable when selling your best players to rivals.

At some point the players have to take some responsibility - despite his standard 20 goals a season - he actually missed a fair few as well. Lost times of the number of matches I watched where he was totally anonymous - or heard the commentators on radio lancs say the same.

If it wasn't for our ability to replace him because of FFP - I would be happy to see him go for the money being offered.
