Can imagine the convo between Rhodes and Bowyer:

JR: My game is stifled when the ball is always hoofed in the air and I have a 6'4 defender up my arse.

GB: Just give it a right good go.

JR: It hinders the way I and the team play though.

GB: We've got an honest bunch of young lads here who are doing ever so well.

JR: :angry2:

GB: Magnificent.

Chris Taylor has just had an operation on his groin, so imagine that's him done for a couple months. Not ideal with our small squad.

So many injuries already. Makes you wonder what goes on down at Brockhall when a good deal of the first team have either spent time injured this summer or are injured currently. Means we have a desperate need for cover in a number of areas, and considering we've lost some key players, the cover needs to be quality or else we are in (more) trouble.

I can see another season of niggling injuries and the players looking unfit. I heard there were fundamental issues in training down at Ewood last season which compromised player fitness and I hope this isn't the case again. Far too many injuries last year again, and I've long lost faith in the coaching staff. Then again, I've seen nothing decent on the field in recent years where I've thought "oo that's come from the training ground", unless lumping the ball to Gestede was a specialised training ground move.

talk about double standards

Don't bother quoting him Abs. He knows he's on ignore, and has the facility to do the same with me, and instead is just posting click bait. The messageboard would be a far better place without such an attention seeking WUM - or if he just stuck to discussions with people who actually cared about his opinion.

It's been drizzling most of the week. The mard arses probably have them training indoors again. That would create plenty of niggles although I wouldn't be surprised to see a few players hiding this season if they don't quite fancy it.

He helped bring in and signed off plenty of them coming in though. Your not really thinking that hard pal !

Don't get me wrong - I would rather have John Williams back. And I don't know the facts of some of the bad stuff about him some people have mentioned.

But those players no longer being here has to be a positive to any supporter who doesn't want to wallow in misery. And if you think about it he has also overseen the signings of Gestede, Cairney, Conway and Marshall which have been good.

JR: "You'll simply have to build the team around me, even if it requires us to play an archaic formation that we don't even have the players for."

The hoof it upfield didn't work when Rudy and Brown were up top, so it was never going to work with Rhodes up front. Look at how many goals Rudy assisted despite being a big strong lad who's supposedly much better at holding up the ball than Rhodes. Near enough all Rudy's goals came from the same cross. If that's not archaic then I don't know what is.

I'd argue Rhodes would flourish in a 4-2-3-1 where we play a short passing game, focused on playing in the opposition's half. Pace on wings for a quick counter if necessary, but emphasis on keep ball, getting it wide and crossing/slipping it into the box, where Rhodes would flourish. This would also benefit the team IMO and see the midfield contribute a heck of a lot more than they do. Our CMs, Lowe, Evans, Williamson and Spearing contributed something like one goal and one assist between them all last season. The sitback attitude in midfield didn't work offensively and didn't work defensively either.

Some say Rhodes can't play the lone striker role. He managed to get an alright return with an awful team and manager's behind him in 2012/13 and this wasn't a team gearing to his strengths, this was a team that relied on him bailing us out. I think with a high pressing midfield behind him doing the legwork, it wouldn't hinder our play but in fact help take the weight off Rhodes by occupying the opposition's other defensive options. Too often you'd see our strikers isolated with no one near them but defenders. Shouldn't be happening.
Some make out that Rhodes's game is completely incompatible with any form of modern tactic and I disagree. So what if he's a penalty box player, getting the ball in the box should be the aim anyway. Having a static frontman like Brown might bring in others from hold up play, but the one-dimensional football and lack of movement/finishing completely nullifies putting him in instead. If Rhodes had an all-round game to go with his remarkable finishing skills, he'd be playing Champs League football. Luckily, he's at Rovers (for now) and I'd sooner tailor our game to create chances in and around the box for a finisher like Rhodes, than mind-numbing hoofball where we hope for a lucky flick or bounce.

Very interesting. While I would be loathe to lose Rhodes it does appear we could at least replace him then (in the physical sense). Still I wouldn't trust Shelfy and his abacus.

Anyone else get the feeling that this news may prick Gaz' ears btw? I'd imagine he'd drive Jordan to a new club so that he could get buying again.

Haha who on earth has said that they don't get on? Amazing how much people try to engineer things to fit their own perceptions!!

Jordan's a top lad...has had his head turned a little but would knuckle down and do what he does best if Venkys refuse to sell.

No issue AT ALL with any of the coaches or the manager.

Jordan had issues with Rudy.

I believe Neal and Mani. Would Mani's mate tell him really if there was a problem between JR and GB? Maybe

Would Dunny be annoyed at GB for his treatment and exaggerate the problem between the two? Or they had an argument one time but since recovered their relationship? Possibly

One thing is just because someone says something on here doesn't mean it's true.

Rhodes seems to me like the kind of player who would get on with it even if he wasn't particularly happy so I wouldn't feel the NEED to sell him because of what he said, but I don't know him so...

If there's anyone who has been linked away for big money who I'd let go it would be Hanley not Rhodes but if selling JR means we can actually buy a replacement, even if it's only a 500k/1m one then it might be the best way to go.

Apparently. They always seemed happy enough celebrating when the other scored. Rhodes's body language suggested a different issue to me.

The guy who has connections to the coaching staff says not. What issues are you suggesting and what is the basis for your suggestions?

Wouldn't be too upset if he comes in but not as a replacement for Rhodes. Although Wales online States that they will demand a fee for him so surely that rules us out unless we sell Rhodes and get out of the embargo.

Anyone would think that the Football League were trying to tempt us to sell Rhodes.

Now changing their own rules to give us added temptation to cash in if the embargo is lifted immediately.

I wonder what forces are at work here.

Le Fondre could be coming to us according to Wheelock. He's exactly the same player as Rhodes...so that could only mean one thing.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/adam-le-fondre-leave-cardiff-9770944

Cardiff will demand a fee for Le Fondre, who has attracted interest from a number of Championship clubs. But the Stockport-born hitman and his family want a return to the north and Cardiff have waited for the right offer.

Now they are close to agreement and Le Fondre could be on his way next week.
