I don't really get the mass disappointment over ALF. It should hopefully just mean that Rhodes is staying. There was no way in hell that those two could have played together - they're far too similar. Downside is that our embargo won't be getting lifted anytime soon.

Certainly speaking for myself I was under the assumption Rhodes would be sold and ALF would come in as replacement, albeit not the same quality he is still decent at this level. This would have then allowed the embargo to be lifted and a bit squad strengthening.

From my understanding, there was genuine interest from Rovers. However they have been dilly dallying about for some time over a proposed deal, Le Fondre wanted a north west move, Bolton couldn't afford, Rovers were then in pole position, however it was all dependant on what happens with Rhodes, but Cardiff wanted rid.

It would be easy to criticise rovers on this but to be fair I think it was a case of right player, wrong time.

Also bowyer is one who really likes to look at players in detail before signing, hence loaning cairney, gestede etc then making deals permanent afterwards, which is good but sometimes means we won't get players.

Cheers, good to have another well connected contributor on board.

No worries pal. The fact he wanted £16k per week wasn't ideal with the FFP restrictions, again that would have been possible if the Rhodes deal was sorted.

In any event in the likelihood that Rhodes does stay, then Rhodes, combined with Brown (the two work well together) and Delf or Maynard as a 3rd striker would still be one of the best in the league I would say, if bowyer could get Maynard and/or Delf to full potential they would be very handy players.

Having a manager with a bit of charisma, a bit of drive or even a bit of ambition would help. Let's be honest, when have we ever heard something that sounds ambitious from him?

His quotes about aiming for promotion this season? He made them at the end of last season if someone can be bothered finding them. Think that's the only remotely ambitious thing he's said and I bet he regrets it!

Unfortunately while he is saying the right thing about promotion I cant help but think "token gesture" when he utters the words....

Agreed. I think he said it to satisfy a fanbase who were disappointed with the league performance.

He says promotion is the aim this season to keep everyone quiet over summer. I have no doubts he'll fail to deliver again and come up with some way of backtracking.

Now your for it! Have you forgotten Brown's name is sh1t on here amongst most of the 'enders' and those who have never kicked a ball in anger?

I can't believe that average Joes like Le Fondre can command 16k a week.

The world has gone mad.

Can you recall the disbelief when it was first made public that Shearer was on 10k pw?

'disappointed fanbase'? Gormless beggars with their heads in the clouds more like. I pointed out many times that not one of last seasons squad would have got anywhere near the 2001 promotion team. One of Rhodes / Gestede but most definitely not both might just have squeezed Bent out of the team but only just.

With a right dour and defensive bugger as manager who could have minimised our goals against column we might have had a chance but remember we don't like dour defensive buggers here do we? We are the famous Blackburn Rovers and we need to play like Real Madrid.

Seems the Cardiff management agree with you. ^_^

Odd thing this wage malarcky. We are so influenced by the Prem League but with only 10% of their income. By my reckoning if the av wage in the prem is now 40k then in the chamopionship it needs to be 4k.

So you're not disappointed with how things are going Gordon? I've not said the squad was good enough for promotion, but I am saying that the majority of fans understand that promotion is a necessity for the long-term survival of BRFC. Every year we fail to achieve promotion, the bleaker things get and thus, the more disillusioned people become.

You should be angry and disappointed with how things are going, yet I worry you take pleasure out of the scenario Rovers find themselves in, simply because you predicted this and it feeds your ego. Where is your fight, man?

Would you rather Rovers get a freak promotion and you get to eat some humble pie, or see Rovers drop into the abyss and be proven correct? I am concerned that you'd opt for the latter.

apparently not the most pleasant type of person !

Delfounso is an odd one he's been here a good while now and along with Guthrie has played a couple of times.

Maybe a double deal announced soon?

Especially with Guthrie as he would be a starter you think we would want it settled early this week

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Derek Shaw had negotiated some kind of deal with the Football League.

I.e. IF we sell Rhodes for £11-12 million and get his £30k+ wages off the books, combined with the other sales this summer, then the league would allow us to sign Le Fondre as a replacement, as he will be on much less than Rhodes and whatever fee Cardiff want will be very small in comparison.

I imagine that Shaw has attempted to reach this agreement so that he can try and persuade people to sell Rhodes. He, and many others, would probably consider swapping Rhodes for Le Fondre, whilst knocking £20k a week off wages and pocketing £11 million is very good business.

Otherwise I just can't see it happening, although I would love to be proved wrong as I would love to see Le Fondre and Rhodes together up front. The reason I can't see it happening is that Bowyer at this stage needs to replace Gestede/King. For that he needs pace, power and height, none of which Le Fondre is known for. It would only really make sense if he was coming in to replace Rhodes or if Bowyer was suddenly planning on changing his approach drastically from last season which was heavily reliant on long balls and aerial threat.

We all know we need pace and power but I very much doubt Bowyer does. We'll probably sign another winger.

Sorry but if we are relying on Brown as a starter we are already dead in the water.

I wonder if we are struggling to make a deal for Guthrie under the FFP restriction. Perhaps even Delphie

The criticism is of spending all the available transfer budget on one man, in order to get promoted. But let's make things up eh........?

Stone me, wish you'd got those 20 "likes".................. :P

You know as well as everyone else that Rhodes was not part of the "Transfer budget" and that an additional striker was only brought in because our marquis signing that summer (Best at 3m) got injured. There's no reason to think any of that money would have been spent had no-one been injured.
