Without sounding disrespectful to what Rhodes has done at Ewood, is he really the world beating striker some are making him out to be ? The answer is a stark NO he isn't.

Selling him for £12m plus is good business, fantastic business for BRFC. Its poor on behalf of Boro but who really give s to$$ about them?

If JR was a world-beater of a striker he wouldn't be here, he would be in the top flight. Truth is he isn't. He might score 20 goals a season but to be honest, any half decent striker can in this league especially in a team that can make goals. I like him at Rovers, but he is a little inconsistent. He hasn't got electric pace, he is a little lightweight and he hasn't got the rocket shot type of goal in him, yes he can finish but how many chances does he miss before he scores?

we have lost better strikers and always moved on. Losing JR will see the move on as well. As for a replacement ? I don't know the answer to that but one thing is for sure, he can be replaced and at Boro, imagine how the club will feel when they don't go up with JR at the front of their overrated players? Its a huge gamble and when boro gamble what happens? History tells us they go down !

Steve Gibson isn't the messiah or the chairman that they make him out to be. Successful off the pitch maybe but with the club, its poor fayre.

This post is insane. It's like you have completely forgotten we're under a transfer embargo and can only offer £10k p/w maximum wages to new signings. I don't think anybody has called Rhodes a world-beater, but he's an excellent goalscorer in this division and as close as you can get to a guarantee of 20+ goals in your Goals For column each season. Keep in mind only 6 strikers in the league managed to get 20 or more goals last season - and we were the only team in that group who didn't get into the top six. The fact we had two strikers in there makes last season's failings all the more pathetic.

You must have us to go down soon then, considering we made the same gambles 3 years ago and it has all turned to @#/?.

Well the Boro fans have made my day a little more bearable... I have been posting sh!tty comments on here in the hope one of them would repost it in their forum.

Guess what? They did... Mind you... They did call me a joker... 😔

We've only had him for 3 full seasons. He arrived in 12/13

He's talking about his career tally, not just his record at Rovers.

Agreed. They've just got to reject every bid made. If we keep him we might be in for a decent season; if we lose him - God knows what

Define 'decent'. We had a 40+ goal strike duo last season and still wound up in midtable. Even if we kept Rhodes, we still might be in trouble.

I'd have thought we'd have been out of embargo in 12 months time anyway den. It's a case of getting through this season in purely footballing terms imo.on the pitch athough off it a season of survival of course doesn't help the long term debt situation.

Well like I've said before, if nothing changed from last March, we'll lose £44 mill next season. I know we've lost Robinson, Best etc since then, but their wages won't make a dent in those losses.

Btw, I don't have an answer on what the club should do - that's up to them. There isn't a right answer though, is there?

It's almost as if losing 30+ million a year fits right in with Venkys 'business' accounts sheets. Now just why did an Indian chicken processors buy an English football club again ?????

I can't see how losses will be more in the next set of accounts den with Robinson, Best, Dunn, Cairney and King off the wage bill.

The year after that there'll be the additional 8m p.a. loss of parachute payments to plug I assume but we're reliant on Venky's to plug the debt currently anyway so I just hope they continue to do so, although obviously a lot of people seemingly don't.

The Raos plugging the debt is the only current option.

Most games, zero...

In his first season I would agree - his goals to chances ratio was unbelievable. Last season was far less so - and he missed a fair number of chances you would have expected him to take.

Alright, fair enough.

The 8 mill para payments will hit the turnover Rev. It was 24 mill last accounts, it will be 16 mill next accounts. Less turnover = higher losses.

Open nets against Wigan and Watford away iirc.

If the deal does go through hope Venky's have the common sense to send their own financial experts to do the deal and only allow the magic pens in to sign the paperwork under a very watchful eye.

Considering the financial state of the club and this being a rather large pie we need every piece of it to go where it should go.

Downing putting in crosses, guaranteed he will score over 30 for them

I don't think so at all, maybe a Gestede type player would but NOT Rhodes. He didn't sore 30 with Marshall, Conway and the like supplying.

Rather ignoring the times he was left out or subbed of course as well as the fact early season when Rudy was starting the team was tailored to play to his strengths alone.

Marshall played much of last season at right back and when he does play wing like Conway he tends to hit his crosses after checking back inside with the ball curling towards the keeper.

Downing is a more traditional winger in the he goes for the byline and bangs his crosses with the ball going away from the keeper and towards the incoming forward - which will suit Rhodes alot better. I would expect Rhodes to get 25 - 30 goals for Boro next season - if he does go.

Each season is different but Boro were close last season, getting someone like Rhodes in could easily push them into at least the playoffs again and probably pushing for one of the automatic promotion places. Rovers won't be competing for anything next season even with Rhodes and he knows it.

Marshall played more on the wing than at right back. Agree about Conway - though you could also say that Olsson did put across some excellent crosses last season for Rhodes.

Importantly - will Downing play as a traditional winger ? At West Ham they seemed to have converted him into a more central attacking midfield role.

I agree that Rhodes will once again score 20+ goals next season - irrespective of who he is playing for. The only interesting thing will be the end of the season when Boro fans may be asking why Rhodes scored 25 goals and yet the team overall doesn't look as good.

Don't be so sure, because apparently all Rhodes does is hold back the rest of the team. Apparently.
