The only interesting thing will be the end of the season when Boro fans may be asking why Rhodes scored 25 goals and yet the team overall doesn't look as good.

I imagine most of them will understand that if your striker has scored over 20 goals during a campaign he's done his part.

Marshall played more on the wing than at right back. Agree about Conway - though you could also say that Olsson did put across some excellent crosses last season for Rhodes.

Importantly - will Downing play as a traditional winger ? At West Ham they seemed to have converted him into a more central attacking midfield role.

I agree that Rhodes will once again score 20+ goals next season - irrespective of who he is playing for. The only interesting thing will be the end of the season when Boro fans may be asking why Rhodes scored 25 goals and yet the team overall doesn't look as good.

I must have missed that bit when the team looked better without Rhodes.

When was that?

I think some are harsh on Rhodes. He isn't best suited to the tactic of having a ball launched at him with a CB stuck to him. He isn't entirely innocent though, in the 3 years we have had him, in terms of play I have yet to see him linking up well with a strike partner or holding the ball and laying it off to bring others in to play. Bowyer was waxing lyrical about how amazingly hard he works etc. but my eyes don't deceive me, he is quite lazy and is 'just' a finisher. Nobody can argue with his strike rate in one of (if not the) poorest Rovers sides for 25 years though. Without him, it would have been relegation in that 1st season. When we lose him, the others are going to have to get two thirds of his goals between them or we are going to have to magically learn how to defend.

The common link here is Steve Agnew. It's no coincidence that he has been assistant manager at the only two clubs to have made serious bids for Rhodes in the last 12 months.

Perhaps he is starting to get the message - Venkys clearly don't want this deal to happen - by the sounds of things they have battened down the hatches and haven't replied or responded to attempts from Middlesbrough to contact them over the weekend.

I'd have thought after the Hull fiasco last summer that Agnew would have realised by now that it isn't worth the aggravation of trying to deal with these people.

If it is true that major decisions such as selling Rhodes would require the agreement of Mr & Mrs Desai, Balaji and Venkatesh then Middlesbrough could be in for quite a wait. Can Middlesbrough afford to wait with the new season 12 days away?

Starting to get reported that Middlesbrough are now looking at other targets. No other bid has been made yet. Guessing it's probably Hooper.

Hope that's correct. If it is, hopefully we can also persuade the FA to slap Gibson and Karanka with a mis conduct charge as well.

Rhodes can moan all he likes, in fact, Rhodes can have tea with Gibson for as long as likes. The fact of the matter is, whoever our owners are want what they want for him, and if Boro dont cough up the money, then Rhodes will have to be a good boy and knuckle down.

Wonder if there is any coincidence with Agnew being at each of these clubs... And being the one who is suggesting Rhodes to each of his managers!

Pr!ck... I bet there is.

I have lost count of the number of times it has looked like we were playing with 10 men. Something also remarked on frequently by Radio Lancs. BTW how did we play in the cup ?

This may be dragged up next season when we are playing ever so well but coming away with nothing frequently because no one will be there to plonk in all these chances we are allegedly going to create without this albatross Rhodes hanging around our necks.

Hell fire :excl:

GB and his interviews have become and ever so well utter rubbish

The guy gets right on my tits. Talks utter nonsense at times.

My favourite was when we were about 14 points short of the play offs and he was talking promotion.

He reminds me of the delusional bald chap.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion - and the fact that Rhodes divides opinion even when scoring 20+ goals a season shows the shortfalls in most parts of his game except finishing.

BTW - like the albatross reference - but that was in reference to the financial impact that one player had on our finances. To put it in context - 1/2 of our parachute payments for this coming season would be required to pay Rhodes alone (wages plus next installment of transfer fee).

If he scores the goals to keep us up / midtable / a miracle of play offs then he's worth it some might say. We are already in embargo and likely to lose millions again anyway and at least he's still classed as an asset whilst he retains some value. 8k pwk gets you Chris Brown...........
