Hi chaps. Boro fan in peace here. Came on here to see what the overall view of this Rhodes saga is and also to see how the people who see him week in and week out rate him.

His record is very good but having watched Rovers twice last year against us, I have to say Gestede looked far more effective, would that be fair to say?

😀

yes it would, and it didn't take you long to work that out, but be careful or you'll be labelled a hater before you sign him - IF you sign him.

I knew Rovers were having some issues with Venkys, but didn't realise it was as serious as it was. Have they ever been good to you or has it been doomed from the start?

Anyway, best of luck with the season and I'm sure you won't be anywhere near as bad as some are making out, definitely more than good enough for mid table (especially if your keeper Westwood gets a run In the team).

Cheers

If you get Rhodes, which I very much doubt, you'll be buying a footballer of limited ability who has the happy knack of scoring 20+ goals per season. JR isn't strong, can't hold the ball up, his lay offs are haphazard and he generally needs two touches to control the ball when played up to him from defence. One big weakness is he does not relieve pressure on the defence by receiving the ball and keeping it. There are some games when it feels like we only have ten on the pitch and then he scores and we win!!!! A player who will always divide the fans' opinion.

I'm very ambivalent about the player and the possible transfer. Overall I'm in the what will be, will be camp. I think it more likely Rhodes will be at Ewood than the Riverside this season. Basically if your club have not acted correctly, in the eyes of the Rao family, or not shown them respect the shutters will come down and there will simply be no communication - this is what we have experienced for the past 5 years. On top of this Boro will have to come up with straight cash - £10,12, 14m - the size of the fee is not the deciding factor, the ability to pay up front will be. With all due respect I doubt Boro, or any Championship club, have got the £12-14m it will take in cash.

If we have to lose one better Rhodes than Gestede

this guy actually turned out ok. One of the best strikers in France now

Indeed. A shame he did sod all for us - though I'm sure wee Stevie is as much to blame for that as anybody.

I just checked his wikipedia page...

Modeste single handedly got Blackburn Rovers relegated in the 2011–12 Premier League season after he got a red card in one of the final games of the season against West Bromwich Albion F.C. which Blackburn ultimately lost 3 – 0 and made survival for the next season practically impossible.[3]

Seems like somebody has a grudge

I'm completely with you, it's an obscene amount of money for any club in the Championship and I think if anything was going to happen then it would of already. He may move, he may not, I don't think it will be to Boro though.

I simply wanted people's views on the whole thing.

How you have just described Rhodes is very honest and in truth, all the qualities you list he doesn't have would be irrelevant if he does get you 20+ goals a season, as we have been crying out for someone like that for many a year!

I suppose one good thing about your owners is that they aren't push overs, many in their position would of just rolled over by now.

Again, good luck to Rovers. Hope it's a good one for you.

Mate a section of our fans are legendary for not appreciating what they've got. What he will probably get up there is a team and manager...oh and uncle who'll best harness what he does well. Play like you did last season and if he's in that side or better he'll bang you 30 in. All this despite being the worst player on the pitch you understand :o

I'll remind you of this next season when all we play is hoof ball, nobody just pops a chance in despite being crap and Chris Brown gets 20 games filling in for Rudys constant niggling injuries. Oh and his knock he'll pick up before and after the transfer window.
