Rhodes has done nothing worse than Chris "January Injury" Samba, and I can't remember the crowd turning on him.

If he stays then this will essentially be forgotten about by the majority until the next transfer window when he's begging for a move again.

Fair point.

Perhaps it grates with me a little more because It always come across that Rhodes is a top professional and not one to rock the boat/chuck his toys out in order to get what he wants.

Trying to keep two players who are desperate to leave the club is seriously undermining any pre-season planning or preparations that the manager and coaching staff want to do. They don't know if the players will be here, or if they are still here just how committed to a club they will be. If they do stay both are going to be a long way behind in terms of match fitness. Unless the players have a change of heart and come out and say they want to stay and want to play for Blackburn Rovers then I really don't see how this ends well for all concerned, but particularly the club.

Yep. Not answering the phone is by no means "playing a blinder".

It all boils down to Rhodes and Gestede - and how determined they are to leave. Yes the owners can stand firm, but what use is it to us, to have two strikers here come the beginning of the season, who don't want to be here and won't give their all? No use, is the answer.

Someone - goodness knows who - needs to sit down with the two players, and sort the situation out, as best as is possible for all parties. I know what John Williams would have done in this situation. If the buying clubs were offering higher wages to the players, he would have tried to match those wages and if he couldn't do that, he would have let them go. He didn't believe in holding players back.

Put the kettle on den. I'll send the pair of 'em over to Leyland at 10.00.

I think the worst thing Rhodes could do now is put in a transfer request.

Cant see the owners selling Rhodes to Boro cos they dont like being forced into selling players they dont want to sell.

Plus I would imagine that they look at Rhodes as a key player for us and the biggest success since buying the club.

Plus they have give him a new contract last season so are looking for him to be loyal to the club.

If he is still by the start of the season then we all know he will give 100% commitment to the club.

Naive.

As I keep saying, Venkys do not seem to see results on the field as a priority. So I doubt whether the importance of pre-season preparation has even entered their thoughts.

We continue to be a shambles on and off the field and things will only get worse the longer they remain.

League 1 beckons.

It's disappointing, but ultimately Rhodes is not a Rovers fan and has no affinity to the club beyond the hefty wage we give him. I assume that he now feels the owners are being unreasonable in their valuation of him and along with his agent is now trying to force the issue by using the old 'how to engineer a move' handbook.

Unfortunately for him there's no chapter on Venky's.

Get rid of 'em both I say and lets crack on, if we go down so be it! What I will say about Rhodes wanting to join a club with more

ambition is; where was his ambition when he signed an extension

making sure he lined his pockets with around 2 million a year for the next 4.

So is Jordan planning on flying out to India for his 'showdown talks' with Mrs Desai? Because we all know she doesn't do business by telephone and there's no way she's going to fly over here herself.

Perhaps Jordan could buy his plane tickets at the same time as good old Steve Gibson and get a reduced fare.

I don't blame Venkys one bit. The only people undermining the manager's pre-season plans are those players who are unable/unwilling to play in pre-season games as they act in an unprofessional and disrespectful manner towards their employers as they collect their wages whilst attempting to manipulate moves to rival clubs.

If it is true that Rhodes asked to sit out yesterday's friendly then that is shocking behaviour, and makes him no better than any other spoilt footballer trying to force through what he wants.

He made his views clear last week. Unfortunately he should have thought about 'ambition' when he was signing his 2 year contract extension worth millions of pounds last summer, and ought to realise that there are other factors beyond his personal interests at stake here.

I am also beginning to doubt the severity of the 'injury' he picked up at Accy Stanley. I'm speculating at this stage but it now appears to have been a very convenient injury to sustain in the clubs first pre-season game to get him out of harms way for a few weeks whilst he attempts to seal a transfer. Regardless of that, he should have been playing by now as it is 3 weeks almost since he got injured and the prognosis was for 7-10 days out.

Why should Venkys have to agree to rush a deal through to sell Rhodes and Gestede? That's exactly what Middlesbrough and Watford want them to do, and it will benefit them and the players more than it will us.

Venkys have rejected Middlesbrough's bid, so that should be the end of the matter. Why should they agree to talks by telephone? The offer made to them wasn't good enough so there is nothing else to talk about.

Players, or their agents, have all the power these days and contracts seem to mean nothing. Wouldn't it be nice if owners in the shape of Venkys won a player v. owners battle for once. Rovers could set a precedent for the rest of football.

If either Rhodes or Gestede are still at the club on September 2nd then they will have a decision to make. They can continue to behave like spoilt children and refuse to play for their employers (breach of contract?) or knuckle down, accept their employers decision and attempt to repair a deteriorating relationship with supporters and try to fire the club to the upper levels of the division.

Rhodes' mighty ambition to play for another Championship club means he will surely be able to cope with another season at this Championship club if it doesn't come about as he wants it to. My sympathy only extends very slightly to a player who has ruined 3 years of immaculate conduct in the last week and is attempting to orchestrate a transfer to a direct rival on the eve of the new season knowing that if he leaves we could be in dire straits next season.

I have more sympathy for Gestede, who at least has seemingly had Premier League interest and who would be taking a step up were he to move to Watford.

One thing is for sure, if they stay here they will either have to play with full commitment to the club or they won't be in the Premier League next summer if they spend the next 12 months suffering from a series of phantom injuries.

But it might well backfire on him.

It will if either Rhodes or Brough aren't totally committed to him moving there. If Rhodes is determined to go - and I have no doubt Brough have sussed him out over that one, and Brough are prepared to wait, there's every chance it will happen.

None of the above Abbey! We keep hold of Rhodes and Gestede pass this transfer window and the chances of getting anywhere near 20 million in the next will have diminished. I'm fully aware if we get rid there is a strong possibility that we will go down but the longer we stay in this embargo there is a chance we're going down anyway; we can't even compete with other clubs in the loan market now with talks of loan fees being paid! Take the money now try and get out of this embargo and lest move on.

Yup this doesn't mean that it is dead in the water, just that at the moment Venky's aren't engaging in any conversation with Boro. I suspected that this would happen as soon as Rhodes went public. This is exactly the same as what happened with the likes of Samba and even Rudy during the January transfer window.

For the Boro fans posting stuff from here on your own forums - Venky's are not "normal" football owners. They have totally destroyed our football club, but if you do some reading up when it comes to negotiating transfers they are almost impossible to deal, especially when they have been annoyed. Just look back at transfers involving outgoing from Rovers over recent year, they refused to sell Phil Jones to Man United even though he had a £18 million transfer clause, they eventually got a performance based £22 million deal. They dug their heels in with Chris Samba, who moaned and moaned for 2 windows before they eventually shipped him off to Russia. They did the same with N'Zonzi, heck even last January Rudy went public about wanting to move to Crystal Palace and they said no. Whoever advised Rhodes to go public made a mistake and made any potential transfer very difficult.

They make Daniel Levy look like Del Boy. ^_^ I wonder if their stance may endear them to the Jordanettes?

btw they've screwed it over big time but haven't quite 'totally destroyed our football club' YET.

Strange thing is, when was the last time Bowyer went to India ?

Been in charge approx two and a quarter years and I can't remember him going there more than twice ?

Kean on the other hand seemed to be there every couple of months.

Yes but he had an ulterior motive. Kean was smuggling Indian gold remember :o

btw I wonder where he got a pile of cash from to spend on gold?

So based on that, what's the problem with the Loons? Don't care about results, don't care about getting better management in, so why dig in for more money for Rhodes? Oh right, get as much as possible before they hit the road. It's the reason why they don't challenge FFP, because make money, don't spend any. Simples.

So don't praise these clowns for playing hardball, they have an agenda and its us as club that will suffer the consequences when they bugger off

Venky Clowns out!

The Raos certainly seem obstinate people - perhaps they've been bruised by some harsh lessons.......

I might at this point suggest that 'it takes one to know one'. ^_^

All players need match fitness - the only possible reason they haven't been playing is because deals are being negotiated (or not as the case may be) in the background. I'm certain they're not injured either.

Common sense from our side as much as theirs. Probably insisted upon by our bankers and their agents.

Are we really praising Venkys?

Their lack of communication is one of their key issues. If they want to reject offers for Rhodes, do so, if they want to negotiate, then get on with it. Not answering the phone isnt helping.

The worst thing that can happen is we allow this to continue then sell at the last minute giving us no options at all to replace him - surely something we have all seen so many times before as Rovers fans? And worse this time as the replacement market is even smaller than normal.

Tell me again what are they doing right here? What's the plan?

Do I want him to go, well no - mainly as i have no confidence our manager could replace him even if he could spend the money.

I heard our chief scout was in the stand at Bury tonight- why isnt he out scouting new players?

Talk about pessimism. I think you need counselling Baz.

Good Grief.

Were you also the scriptwriter for Love thy Neighbour and It ain't half hot mum by any chance?

Such in depth knowledge ...sounds like he might have been the punkah waller.

The longer this drags on could we really be looking at having both Rhodes and Gestede come first of September?

I will be amazed. But Venkys don't seem to be blinking. Still a month to go though...

'tha's either with us or tha's agin us! Have they roots in yorkshire?

It's amusing Gibson tried to contact her directly though, as if he was expecting to be dealing with rational people.

Amusing?....... Hilarious more like!

had me confused there den. I know it's odd but, although there's no o in Middlesbrough, the club are called Boro or usually The Boro. I know because I've written or chanted it often enough in my youth and childhood. My dad even trained our budgie to shout up the Boro! I was wondering who this guy Brough was.
