Pro-rate his goals over the last few years and we might find that Rhodes was a bargain, especially if he sells for 12+ million.

What I like best about Rhodes is the fact he has done what he has been paid to do very well. Kept working hard, stayed focused, hit personal targets presumably and increased his worth (prices are ridiculous) whilst also providing value for the wages paid. How many others can say the same? Very, very few. I dislike his game outside the box, with some aspects of his game limited and believe we would be a better team with some genuine pace upfront, but if told purely to always be available to score goals he will argue he at least has achieved the individual targets set before him. If sold, I could still see him scoring 20+ for Boro and them scratching their heads wondering how they missed the play offs with the 'best striker in the league.'

I think he's cuter than some give him credit for and if he gets his move will in tandem with his agent have played it perfectly ever since we first enquired. A big fee to join, big salary ever since, pay increases and big money when leaving. Another one now fabulously wealthy from the Rovers. Credit to him though for keeping himself high on people's lists, giving value and possibly even earning the club some cash.

I think he displayed a good deal of professionalism after we basically sold him to Hull before Venky's vetoed the whole transfer. Being dropped for the likes of Brown afterwards might have been the tipping point which has led to him demanding a move this time around.

It'll be a shame to see him go. If the embargo is lifted we either need to get another striker in who will bag 20-30 goals a season or get the rest of the team to score more goals to compensate. A 40 goal deficit will be hard to overcome, particularly if we sign Le Fondre and he gets injured again.

Pro-Rate the profit against wages over the last few years and we don't even break even.

Hope he isn't on a few grand per goal then, we'll be well out of pocket. How dare he score goals and not get sidelined then paid off for being useless. Silly boy Jordan :rover:

does anyone know what is the script at the moment with Rhodes? I am currently on my hols and I'm doing my best at keeping up... Has another bid actually been lodged?

If it has, it has not been made public.

Venky's answer machine is full and rewind not functioning

So were are the comments about his departure coming from?

On here and on Twitter... People are talking about his impending sale!

Sunderland? Fine cos it's a league above us. Boro? Seems like a sideways step at the moment as there are no guarantees they'll be promoted!

No bid yet

The prevailing opinion is we are gearing to sell shortly. We are enquiring about players who we need to be out of embargo to sign. Not confirmed by anyone yet but a lot of people seem convinced.

Well, the softening up campaign by Shaw and Wheelock certainly seems to be working a treat. Dangle the remotest possibility of getting out of FFP in front of people and all of a sudden a lot of people are gagging to sell.

Never mind the fact that this is by no means a certainty or that we still might not be able to get anyone of any quality in to replace him.

Very crafty. :(

Keep.

Rhodes is gagging to leave.

I'd also imagine the club have some guarantees from the FA in place that if they did sell they would immediately exit the embargo. These guarantees could be legally binding. Also if they are to sell and exit the embargo then Rovers choice of replacement for Rhodes is hopefully in the building with pen in hand, chained to his seat ready to sign.

You'd hope these things aren't done on a whim.

Indeed. A week ago, selling Rhodes and Rudy was certain relegation.

Now we are signing 5/6 players and the promotion campaign is back on.

As Kamy has previously, (paraphrasing) if you want to leave, then you've got to be a good little bitch and keep your head down and your mouth shut. The norberts don't like upstart employees who try to exercise free will and are liable to kick back and refuse them, even to the detriment of the club.

Strange situation though in that Rovers are obviously willing to let him go if the money is right. So perhaps it's a case of "Do as you're bloody well told or suffer the consequences, unless our stubborn stupidity has gotten us into such a rut that you getting your own way gets us out of jail."

FFP seems like an utter farce.

The dangling of a decent name or two and lord liar saying we are close has indeed had the desired effect. Can we really trust a word any of this lot say ? Le fondre falls through then what ? Kim fell through, everybody except Derek knew it would. We are trailing sicknotes and cast offs yet haven't offered any of them a deal. The season is 6 days away for gods sake yet still no one knows what's going on. They are taking the p'ss as usual !

FFP seems like an utter farce.

In its current format it's a joke. All it does is keep the "big" clubs at the top forever and ensure the smaller clubs never challenge for anything beyond the Johnstone Paint Trophy and the odd playoff victory.

A financial framework for clubs to abide by is a good idea in theory, but the current rules are ridiculous. You only have to look at QPR for proof of that.

Even in our better run days we rarely got this right.

With Kamy's post, you can't help but think that a deal has been struck with the FL that we will sell the Crown Jewels in order to release us from embargo and join the bottom half championship club rat race that is nominal fees and loan fees.

The last two seasons have seen us waste our talents and our advantage. And the reward for those that oversaw it all - carry on folks.

As a fan it makes you sick. There is a small part in all of us that wants to protest against Venkys but a big part that says 'what for?'. Personally I can only hope for karma befalling them and what has happened to our Uncle Jack's legacy on their watch happens to their daddy's, and they are humbled - as we have been.

I am just going off what Derek Shaw said in the LT, he suggested that we would come out of the embargo immediately we sold someone for around £6 million. So it does sound as though that the Football League do have some kind of dispensation to lift the embargo midway through a transfer window.
