JBiz Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Some of those quotes are harsh. Can't say I'm surprised by the outcome of his appointment though. I've seen him talk a lot over the years, as a young pro and into his 30s. He never came over to me as a manager. Lambert instantly comes over as a "leader" which is a IMO big part of Dunnys "one of the lads" issue. I think he will find a job in football, but perhaps he will need to do coaching for a prolonged stint with a experienced team to learn off. Maybe he is a good scout? Either way I sensed this was a big jump for him and it's not gone well. Despite this I still wish the guy the best! Some great memories as a player.

Stuart Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 If Dunny had a Rhodes up front then he might be getting a lot more slack. It still amazes me that Bowyer was so untouchable for so long yet managers struggling at other clubs either should be potted or nobody would be surprised if they were.
JBiz Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I'm not sure what this has to do with Bowyer, and I'm not going to bite and go down that route. I'd be careful Stuart, you don't want to be accused of detailing threads Am I not allowed to have an opinion on Dunnys suitability as a manager?

I'd be careful Stuart, you don't want to be accused of detailing threads Am I not allowed to have an opinion on Dunnys suitability as a manager? Hard to form an opinion after a few short months. Looks like he has tried to solidify his team, but needed more wins.Dunn was a clever and bright footballer on the pitch and very inventive. He obviously impressed at Oldham initially to be given the job. Shame it's not going to plan. It's not specifically a point about Bowyer. It's relative to the lack of patience most experience if results don't go to plan straight away.
Baz Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I've never thought Dunny came over as being a thinker, or a motivator. Would love him to do very well, and come back and manage us in the future, but can't see it happening.
Gav Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 “If it doesn’t happen here then it will happen somewhere else and I’ll get it right somewhere else, as that’s the type of character I am." Vinjay - BRFCS.com - 2012 You got it so wrong here last time, maybe this time you'll get it right, but the early signs are not encouraging sadly.

I'd be careful Stuart, you don't want to be accused of detailing threads Am I not allowed to have an opinion on Dunnys suitability as a manager? It just amuses me, Joe. It's not the first time that people have had a strong view about Rovers managers not being given enough time and at the same time managers at other clubs should be potted after a few short months. I'd just like a bit of consistency. As for you having an opinion, you've never asked my permission before! Personally I'm not convinced about Dunny as a manager and he's going to find it tough - certainly with the expectation that modern fans have, particularly at clubs that have infrastructures and a history of better things. There's a reason that Flitcroft and even Jansen started at Chorley. For me, there needs to be more ex-players taking non-league apprenticeships or going abroad and/or becoming a coach or assistant before getting into management. It's Roy of the Rovers stuff when it works but that's very seldom. Experience and a steely-eyed ability to upset and still motivate players is required. At the risk of detailing the thread, Dunny must have looked at Bowyer and thought: "hell, anyone can do this". He'll be realising now just how much harder work being a manager (working 24/7) is than being a player with natural ability (working a few hours a day). All that said, I'd love Dunny to learn from his mistakes and go elsewhere to learn his trade then one day come back to manage Rovers. If not a legend in its truest sense, he's certainly a local folk hero, and someone to inspire a younger generation of Blackburn youngsters.
gumboots Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Check autocorrect, you 2. It's derailing not detailing. Lol
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted January 9, 2016 Moderation Lead Posted January 9, 2016 There seemed to be something a little underhand about how Dunny got this job (not that I blame him for that, but it all happened so fast and it was as if he'd be sounded out about the job pending results). I always felt that this appointment came a bit too soon for him. He needs to earn his stripes lower down, maybe even as a coach first. It was always a big ask to go straight from playing to the manager's hotseat.

You have to admit that even his biggest supporters don't see him as a brain surgeon.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 I'm still a teacher at heart, Stuart. My wife's the same. She can't resist correcting me. Or telling strange kids off in the street when they misbehave.
roverandout Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Dunny was a very good player but a bit of a thick @#/?, so its hardly a surprise
Backroom DE. Posted January 9, 2016 Backroom Posted January 9, 2016 1-0 down to Millwall already... judging by the last couple of pages I assume Dunny will be potted if they lose today?
LewisF Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Get him back here miles better than Danny Guthrie!
VinjayV4 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Probably still Lee Carsley being lined up. Shame I didn't have a bet on Dunn being sacked when he took the job there.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Yeah, it's been coming for a week or two. The job came much too early for him, he was foolish accepting it really. They have someone lined up already. GB ? I heard John Sheridan !
