I think both acts are essentially disgusting - but the added element of fame - casting the victim into a very public eye makes the AJ case worse personally.

In the case of the female teaching assistant - immediately suspended then sacked. Highlights just how low Sunderland stopped when they let him play.

Mostly in the case of one club executive though Short must be incredibly naive. I think owners should "micro manage" and oversee as much as possible its certainly what I would do. Of course he's based in the US so its a bit harder for him on a "day to day" basis. As I saidd earlier though he should have made Johnson sign papers with a financial penalty if he didn't plead not guilty. This virtually guarantees clubs will suspend players from now on (even if they believe innocent until found guilty) and if they don't the EPL will force them to.

Why the hell is the girl in the Johnson case complaining?!

Do you not see the stark hypocrisy in your comment? Because it's abuse on a young boy it's deemed as funny and less deplorable. She slept with a minor more than 50 times yet society deems that as acceptable.

JUST FOR THE RECORD,

My comment really wasn't meant to be taken with such seriousness.

Of course I don't think it is right what she has done.

I can't be bothered debating about punishments, etc other than court consistency in sentencing. Abbey is clearly steadfast in his views (which are shared by a lot of people particularly capital punishment) but why get so worked up about things which have no direct impact on your life? When I saw the other findings immediately wondered if it was because Johnson found them funny more than anything. Personally I wouldn't find them funny at all (was simply wondering if that was Johnson's mindset) and have no desire to see such material. Though I have watched the Jerry Springer "married a horse" episode and found it quite amusing. It was too extreme even for Springer in the 90's and banned in most places and so just be from a video release.

According to the Sunderland Echo the images Johnson had were of a "jokey" nature.

Really your saying don't get worked up over things ? Really from you ... The mind boggles

There are people out there who do think like that though. "Attitudes like donnermeats" wasn't meant personally. Unless donnermeat is your real name?

Rovers directly effects me and I haven't been as "worked up" recently other than a few instances. That's why people on here get more upset over issues like Chris Brown than they would over a mass killing in Papua New Guinea. That's why people hate Steve Kean more than any third world dictator. I don't get emotionally involved whatever country its in generally as there's so many awful things that happen in the World. Plus why should Paris/Brussels be worse than what happened in Lebanon? I'll admit looking at the Paris/Brussels stuff more and being pro Western but it still feels somewhat wrong to care about one more than the other. I don't know if that's the case with you but in general it has been. So I just emotionally detach myself and it might be selfish but I'm mainly concerned with what effects me. Really I don't think that's different to the majority. Most people on here haven't exactly been on humanitarian pilgrimages to Africa have they?

For the information of anyone interested, I'm not saying Johnson shouldn't have been punished and I certainly don't think he should have been allowed to carry on playing. As others have said,in other jobs you'd be suspended. I just question the severity of a 6 year sentence when you see some of the other things that don't carry this level of sentence. Personally I'd think jail was probably one of the worst places for rehabilitation of this kind of offender.

Wasnt the minimum sentence he could have received 4-5 years? 6 can't really be called harsh in that sense. The court heard that Johnson has warped sexual tendencies, so it seems to me that prison is not only reasonable but necessary.

Plus, show me where I said it was acceptable behaviour from her?

Even the 2-3 he'll do is too long. And before you ask yes I have daughters. And yes I'd be very very angry if it had been them, but anger is one thing. Justice is something that has to be untouched by anger. And it has to be consistently applied

Abbey is clearly steadfast in his views (which are shared by a lot of people particularly capital punishment) but why get so worked up about things which have no direct impact on your life? Just want to correct you on the "paedo" remark that actually applies to younger age ranges now. So in court presumably he hasn't been recognised as a paedophile for this case. Of course many will assume he's attracted to younger kids as well. I think there's quite a big difference between a 15 year old (who often may resemble young adults or at least look older) compared to a 10 year old. You can usually tell if someone is pre teens but you can't always tell if someone might be 15 or slightly older/younger. That's one of the main issues with underage and I think they are leading to that storyline with Jay on EastEnders. In that storyline he was clearly attracted on first sight and seemingly hasn't even contemplated she might be underage. So its not all "black and white" though as we know Johnson certainly knew of the age in this case.

People will look at the reports of Johnson's lack of remorse and the girl taking an overdose recently. Well that certainly hasn't helped his reputation but the overdose can't have been taken into account for the level of sentencing. The case had already started.

My post on the previous page with the edits in bold (I have a bad habit of editing posts several minutes after posting them)

Too long why ?

He is a convicted peodo

With a 15 year old girl who consented. Have you seen what some 15 year olds look like when they go out at night? Not saying he was not wrong but it's not always black and white. You don't get 6years for violent robberies.

Legal age is 16 !

What age is young enough ?

If it happened in a club and without him knowing she was under age then there is an argument .. It didn't , he knew she had only just turned 15 .

He's a Peodo

Legally he's not a paedo (as I've said countless times) he's an ephebophile.

'epho' doesn't have the same ring to it though.

She told him at the beginning she was 15, you end it there. If she was pretending to be older than there'd be an argument but she wasn't so there isn't.

Can't say I had any intention of going but how "easy" (or possible) is it to get in the public gallery for cases of high media interest? Just curious because with certain players I would love seeing them taken down in a court scenario! (not that I'm making accusations just "what if")

He's not going to serve six years, though. He'll only do 2-3.

Yeah but currently on paper he's got a 6 year sentence. More than others have got if Johnson appeals he should cite more serious cases. Any lawyer would love to take on his appeal case (and not just because of his money) as you don't need a law degree to see the logic in that argument.

EDIT-Shock of the century he is appealing it.

And so he should!

He should definitely get 6 years imo, but while that TA only gets 2 or 3 years (only after CPS appeal), it's sexism in the justice system! This country sucks.

People dare to talk about 'Male Privilege', while completely ignoring the many MANY rights that women have over men! Christ, we've entered ICBINF territory here...
