Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Heard a whisper today for Lafferty from Norwich. I wouldn't be overjoyed but is he an improvement on any of our other strikers with the exception of Rhodes. I'd say he was. If that's the case it's a step forward. He was excellent during the Euro qualifies for North Ireland So was Evans when he played.
Baz Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 So many changes needed, its easier to say that at present only really Hanley, Duffy, Olsson, and to a lesser extent Rhodes, Conway and Akpan are secure squad members. The rest are IMO replaceable. To me it says an awful lot about how good some of GBs lauded signings actually are. Massive rebuilding of the squad needed, January will be a very important month for the club.
Backroom DE. Posted December 20, 2015 Backroom Posted December 20, 2015 I'd say Steele is probably safe too - mainly because we have so many other positions that need addressing before goalkeeper.
Norbert Rassragr Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I'd love to see that Brentford player Judge in a Rovers shirt.................................
RevidgeBlue Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 IMO, this is where I think we need to strength the squad/first team under Lambert to achieve promotion. I will suggestion some players that's would improve our team. 1st choice right back, goalscoring centre midfielder, winger with pace, striker with pace, Target man striker, centre back to challenge Duffy and Hanley, Number 10 player I will suggest Adam Forshaw from Boro for the goalscoring centre midfielder spot Lawrence for the number 10 spot Henry or Liam Moore for the centre back Winger with pace- Will Buckley from Sunderland or Elliot Bennett from Norwich or Gary Mackay-Steven from Celtic or Striker with pace- Jason Cummings from Hibs. scored 10 goals in 17 games. or Tom Bradshaw from Walsall 9 goals from 20 games, Lewis Grabban from Norwich but doubt we can afford him, Marvin Emmes from Swansea Target man striker- Kenwyne Jones, Danny Graham, Victor Anichebe Right back- Jack Hunt from Palace currently on loan at Sheff Wed I don't suppose I'm the first to mention it but you really don't do yourself any favours at times chaddy. You supported GB, then wanted him sacked, then performed a complete u turn and supported him through thick and thin and apparently saw nothing wrong with his tenure right up until the moment he was sacked, next news you turn round with a straight face and claim we need no less than SEVEN players to compete!
JBiz Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 But revidge regardless of right or wrong, that's a subjective opinion. When PL came, the aim of the club changed so equally expectations might go with it.
Mani Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 For me, ideally I'd like 5 players. Retain Doneil and Lawrence, and loan / buy a winger, CM and a target man. Iv honestly not a clue who we'll go for. It'll be interesting to see where he pitches his transfers. I have a strong feeling that he will go with what he knows. He hasn't had the time to look into lower divisions and I think he'll want ready made solutions...

I would look to add a front Target man and 2 quick wingers, retain the services of Lawrence in the hole and add a midfielder who can get into the box. He needs to decide who his team will be built around and get them in permanently.

No, you're not the first Rev but you are bang on!
AJW Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Like Victor Anichebe?. I I that's the "type" we should go for to partner Rhodes and Alan Irvine will know all about him from his time at Everton , personally I think a Right Back is a priority too , Henley just doesn't it for me , I'd also like to see a winger/forward with pace and a ball playing C/M . A left winger who can cross a ball with his left foot wouldn't be such a bad idea also , too many times Conway and Marshall either cut back inside on the right foot or put a keany dinky one in to the near post

Bowyer lost my support after the Brentford game. We were rubbish. The target under Bowyer for this season from me was mid table at best. This squad is mid table. But now we have Lambert in chatge and he wants promotion. To achieve this we need more quality players in. Simple as

Simple as Rubbish, The stated aim of the owners with Bowyer was promotion, it hasn't changed now that Lambert is here. The targets are set by the owners, the MANAGER is employed to carry out the task. You constantly post stuff as fact and then go on ad infinitum when members pick you up on it, presumably to try and get members onside.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Bowyer lost my support after the Brentford game. We were rubbish. The target under Bowyer for this season from me was mid table at best. This squad is mid table. But now we have Lambert in chatge and he wants promotion. To achieve this we need more quality players in. Simple as I think this squad is just about mid table with a good manager. With the previous manager we would have been bumping around the little pack at the bottom.Somebody else said earlier that he'd accept a decent offer for any of them. With a few exceptions I agree. We need a clear out. The current situation at Rovers is reminiscent of the time when Ken Furphy took over at the low point in the history of our club. A massive clear out was needed then and Furphy saw that it happened. He signed experienced guys some of whom had real fighting spirit. Too many of the existing staff then were used to losing and you can see it's the same now. The newcomers gave the few good players we still had a boost. It didn't happen over night and there were plenty of ups and downs on the way. I shudder to think what the response on this board would have been when we lost 7-1 at Shrewsbury !
Backroom Mike E Posted December 21, 2015 Backroom Posted December 21, 2015 Only 'must keep's for me are: Steele, Hanley, Duffy, Olsson and Conway. Of course, everyone is for sale at the right price. I feel our best bet is to get in loans who will displace current team members. By getting in better than you have or replacing the worst you have with 1st team quality (Delf out, Anichebe in for example) you can only improve.

Get in better players than what you've already got. Then get in better than them. Under Venkies we've done it the other way round.
Backroom Tom Posted December 21, 2015 Backroom Posted December 21, 2015 Steele is a ten a penny keeper, not our main concern but would be no loss; ok shot stopper poor everywhere else; him punching an easy ball in the last minute against Rotherham was shocking.

It was actually Bowyer who stated that the playoffs were the aim this season following on from the Ipswich win on the last day.
yoda Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 It was actually Bowyer who stated that the playoffs were the aim this season following on from the Ipswich win on the last day. At the Q & A he said it again as being the owners aim, it has to come from the top or it's irrelevant
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 It was actually Bowyer who stated that the playoffs were the aim this season following on from the Ipswich win on the last day. Wow, how deluded can you be ? Like I said on another thread, I was sweating on fourth from the bottom.
Roverthechimp Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Given our history and finances then loans are fine - ideally with first refusal if parent club wants to sell. Frankly don't care if we get to the Premier League with 11 players that we don't own - just that we get there eventually... Only criteria for me in modern football is that players genuinely work for the right to wear the shirt on any given matchday!
FGS5635 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 You can get promoted in this league with a high percentage of your team being bang average. You just need 3-4 difference makers in key positions. You need pace up top and out wide. Strikers that can score a bag full. A really good central mid player is needed to imo I think most of our side is adequate enough at this level. Its hard, but not impossible for PL to land a really good striker, wide man and centre mid in January. Not sure what his budget is or how good his connections for loans are, but it can be done.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 You can get promoted in this league with a high percentage of your team being bang average. You just need 3-4 difference makers in key positions. Pretty much how the Dingles got promoted isn't it?
FGS5635 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Pretty much how the Dingles got promoted isn't it? Exactly, and its how sides get promoted most seasons bar the ones who come down and manage to keep a lot of their premier league side.
blueboy3333 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 This legue is very difficult to get promoted from. Our last team to do it was a very talented team, as was the Fulham team that went with us. Derby's team is full of players that would walk into our current side, especially their midfielders. Same goes for Boro. It is our midfield that desperately needs strengthening, which takes a lot of money. Bradley Johnson at Derby cost near to £5m, Thorne cost a fair bit too. Ince is a cut above our wingers. Leadbetter and and that bloke they got from H'field are far better than our CM's. I don't think 3 or 4 good uns and team of journeyman really cut it promotion-wise in this division. Even Burnley had 5 or 6 really good uns for this league who all managed to stay fit and on form throughout their promotion season (Heaton, Trippier, Ings, Vokes, Jones, Shackell) I'd say we have a good foundation to build on...Hanley, Olsson, Conway, perhaps Steele, Duffy, Evans, Akpan, Rhodes (if he wants to stay) but beyond that we don't have great options. Marshall hasn't played well for a year and Henley isn't progressing enough. This team needs either big investment or Lambert to pull off some terrific loans. A RB, CM, 2 Strikers and a winger are the minimum requirements, and they have to be far better than we have already. This takes time and money. Rebuilding Phase 2 is upon us!
