[Archived] Bowyer Most Likely Not Sacked

Recommended Posts

Well I am totally disillusion with GB and his anecdotal quotes.

I am off to Mauritius for a 2 week break and don't expect Rovers to have picked up any points whilst I am away.

Therefore, I don't want him in the job when I get back !!!

Bowyer out

Keep away from all media when you are away or you will spoil your break ^_^

It's been a long time since I've seen or heard that one. It just brightened up my morning.

:D Yeah it's one from the archives. A lad I knew used to do it back in the day when he was on an all dayer, he probably still does !

There are legitimate reasons to critisise Bowyer. Why some feel the need to repeatedly comment about his use of standard football industry speak is a bit strange.

Perhaps because he uses it all of the time and often when it's not true?

Take the gave it a right good go quote - used after every game but of the 3 I've seen we didn't turn up until after half time in 2 of them and only showed urgency/dominance in the last 15 minutes or so. Hardly a good go by anyone's standards.

Or ever so well. Ever so well at what? Goals? Clean sheets? Wins? Good build up play? Dominating games?

No it's all bull that he's spouting as part of his self preservation strategy. Thing is the fans aren't stupid, know it's guff and rightly get annoyed by it.

You are right, I cannot think of a time that, "We gave it a right good go" under him. We turn up, sometimes pass it about well for 7 mins then brick it and get dominated by the opposition for the majority of the match. I honestly don't know what he is thinking or seeing. Other than the obvious, I've never wanted rid of a manager as much but never have I felt as guilty for thinking it.

International break pal so it's unlikely.

We defended and had two decent attempts a goal. One from a corner.

If that's what you call, "A right good go" then we've had a hell of a lot of right good goes.

Ask any of the 4000 that travelled that day if they felt we had a good go at them and I'm sure most would say yes.

The Liverpool away game in my opinion was possibly the only time I've felt proud of being a Rover in the past 5yrs, they gave everything that day, maybe you missed it Pedro?

Gav, I was there. I can only think a combination of beer, sun in your eyes, the occasion and high-pitched, ear piercing scouse accents could make you forget that we went with the tactic to stop them scoring and barely got in their half. It was a great team performance though (defensively).

If you'd have said the home games against Stoke and Swansea, I'd agree that actually, yes we did in fact give it a 'Right good go' and I had forgotten two games.

Giving the extra effort in those televised matches against big clubs certainly worked out for Mr King, didn't it? Can't help but wonder if the motivation for some players came from elsewhere than the manager...

We're a mid table championship side these days Pedro, we went to Anfield and gave a tremendous account of ourselves and gave it a right good go with a bunch of very limited players.

If you can't acknowledge that I'd give up going if I was you, because quite simply it won't get better than that for a long time, it at all.

The day I take advice off someone who classes Damien Duff as a medal-less Judas and wants to inspire the club to implode - will likely be the day I will give up going Gav. With all respect, please stop quoting me with your petulant drivel and inability to admit you may be wrong, as I have such little interest in what you say of late. I won't put anyone on ignore and I am only bring polite replying, but tbh hanging on everything I say, like a stalky lapdog, is getting a bit much for me.

Haha I can relate to this. I was long gone by the time I reached my seat and much of the game was a very bright blur. I'm surprised anyone could see what was happening, even if they were sober.

We often only really turn up in home games in the last ten mins or when the board goes up with 5 left. We do have a go, get a load of corners etc so when the mike gets stuck up his hooter shortly afterwards that's what's fresh in everyone's mind so he plays on that a lot.

Put your toys back in the pram Pedro and grow up a bit, I've been nothing but civil to you, stop taking yourself and this site so seriously.

Liverpool away was as good as it's got under Bowyer, but when you've been brought up and spoilt with Premiership football and players I can see why you thought it wasn't, I'd get used to it if I was you.

With regards to Duff, I misread the thread and said so. Your contribution to the same thread? Nothing but to slag me off, stones in glass houses.

Both were extremely satisfying and both totally unexpected especially considering the maulings we've taken at both grounds even with a half decent Prem team. Arsenal probably shades it for me though, just fantastic being there and you can't beat those type of away wins.

Training under Bowyer:

"Right lads, let's give it a right good go" GB shouted as he strode into Brockhall.

Already training was underway, he was pleased to note. The keeper coaches were passing ball after ball back to the keepers at a rapid pace. Bowyer was pleased to sew only half of Steeley's kicks had ended up on a separate pitch and Raya-y had managed to return several clearances off the ground.

Just then he saw Eastwood pitting ob his gloves. "Oi Easty, cone here, what you doing?"

"Getting ready to save shots, boss" Eastwood replied.

GB shook his head. "You do have some odd ideas lad," GB chuckled. "Like trying to go up in the last minute when we're trailing by a goal. Don't know where you thought that one up.

Listen the defence does ever so well to keep the opposition down to 15 chances a game. Just 15. Now how many times do the defenders involve you in our free flowing passing game? That's right a lot more than 15. So better practice those clearances. Now be a good lad and go work on your resale value."

Problem averted GB turned to the defence. They were playing a possession game called sideways-sideways-sideways-welly it, which they were excelling at.

To keep fitness up whenever a coach blew a whistle they'd all leg it to the touchline as quickly as possible. Garry knew they liked that fitness drill, they liked it so much they sometimes did it in games.

Ever one to believe in one-to-on training Olsson was stood on the halfway line throwing the ball as far as he could. "As soon as you can throw it into the penalty area from here you've a chance of getting back in the team" Garry said encouragingly as he walks past.

On the next pitch the midfielders were about to play their own version of the sideways game (ingeniously called sideways-sideways-sideways-backwards. GB called them in as the coaches draped barbed wire across the halfway line to encourage the midfielders to maintain their correct positions.

"Remember lads, you're all competing for that one prestigious place in central midfield," he said gazing around at Willo, Evans, Hope, Guthrie and Taylor. (The French lad watched from the sidelines - he wasn't ready for full training yet.)

Next GB spoke to Spurry and Craigy his set piece specialists.

"Right lads, if it's a corner from the left, what's the plan?"

"Whack it to Duffy," they replied in unison.

"What about a corner from the right?"

"Whack it to Duffy."

Garry was pleased to hear them give the same answer for free kicks and throw ins from both the left and the right. Seeking to ensure they knew all aspects of the plan he asked one more question. "What's pls B then?"

The duo looked at each a tad surprised by this unheard-of phrase, before recovering quickly. "Whack it to Duffy."

"Exactly, the opposition will never guess plan B is the same as plan A. Will fool the lot of them that will."

Satisfied tactics were covered GB then went to look at his strikers. They were taking shots at the goal although all bar Jordan were struggling to get it in the net. Garry wasn't worried though they were giving it a right good go, and most of the shots went in the direction of the goal, which he could count as chances in the post match interview. What more was needed.

Bowyer glanced back at Rhodes. "Oi Jordan you're not wearing the your proper kit!" Bowyer bellowed handing Rhodes a training top with "For Sale" emblazoned in large letters front and back.

Bowyer turned to his assistant as Koita missed a tricky chance from 4 yards out. "What's the market value of these lot now?" He asked his assistant.

The assistant consulted his notes and replied. "Delfy £22.80, Koita £34.20, and I'm afraid we'll still have to pay someone to take Brown off our hands."

"Leave Browny alone, he always gives it a right good go," Bowyer chided him before lighting up Ina big grin. "But what about the others though? We got them for nowt! Talk about a mark-up. Delfy's value's increased by over 2000 prevent and Koita 3000! Get those figures sent over to India, I mean the Lancashire Telegraph, immediately."

Garry took a long last look at training. Everything had been prepared. In one corner even the tombola was being oiled and polished ready to determine who's play alongside Grant and Lowey at the weekend. Thoughtfully the ground staff had also brought a second smaller tombola filled with positions to help him decide where Marshy was going to play.

Satisfied all was well Garry called training to an end. "Right lads, that's enough for today. You did ever so well and gave it a right good go. You kept it up for the full half hour -I'm so proud of you all. Same again next week."

I watched it on TV, I'd put it in the top 5 for performances under Bowyer, with Brum away, Stoke, Swansea and man city at home.

It is worrying that 4/5 of those games are cup games eh!?

It would be interesting to compile a list of the top 5 league games. Unfortunately I haven't seen any of them, or I surely would have remembered.

Raya-y had managed to return several clearances off the ground.

I heard a rumour his name's just Ray.
